Harper is in a little 1-for-15 slump in his last four games, though it hardly seems like anything to worry about. He’s currently on pace for 31 homers, which seems realistic, and 37 steals, which would be eight more than he had from 2022-24 combined.

Kepler knocked a base hit in the second inning, then put the Phillies on the board with a single in the fourth to drive in a run. He later extended the team lead with a solo homer off Ethan Roberts in the seventh inning. The 32-year-old outfielder is off to a strong start with his new team, hitting .267/.357/.407 with two homers and 12 runs scored across 98 plate appearances.

Luzardo had pitched through four scoreless innings before an error with two outs extended the fifth. The Cubs would take advantage, bringing in two runs on a walk and two hits following the error. Both runs would be unearned on Luzardo. The 27-year-old left-hander would toss one more scoreless frame on his way to the win. He struck out five. Luzardo will take an outstanding 1.73 ERA, 1.07 WHIP, and a 41/10 K/BB ratio across 36 1/3 innings into a home start against the Diamondbacks on Friday.

No word yet on what the Phillies will receive in return, though it’ll probably just be cash after Clemens had been designated for assignment earlier in the week. The 28-year-old is a career .197/.244/.367 hitter with 14 homers and 48 RBI in 376 at-bats at the big league level.

With the scored tied 0-0, Soderstrom laced a two-run double off Patrick Corbin to give the A’s the lead and ultimately the victory. The 23-year-old first baseman has been exceptional over the first month of the season with 24 RBI over 29 games and an OPS of .940.

It was the only hit of the game for Walker, but if you’re only going to get one hit, you might as well make it a homer. Walker has gone deep four times in his first year with the Astros, but is still slashing an ugly .192/.273/.354 over the first 27 games of the campaign. Those numbers will improve, but there’s no denying the first sixth of the season has been a disappointing one for the veteran first baseman.

Kurtz takes a seat with lefty Patrick Corbin on the mound for Monday’s series opener at Globe Life Field. The 22-year-old top prospect is hitting .250 (4-for-16) with three RBI through five games since being promoted last week to the big leagues. Some initial turbulence isn’t unexpected as Kurtz acclimates to life in the majors less than a calendar year after being selected fourth overall in the draft. It’ll be Tyler Soderstrom at the cold corner on Monday night in his place.
