    Taylor Ward

    Taylor Ward

    LAA • LF • #

Taylor Ward is batting cleanup for the first time this season on Wednesday against the Pirates.

It’s a different look for the Angels as they try to shake things up and generate a spark. Ward hit his sixth home run of the season during Tuesday’s one-sided affair and will get a look in the cleanup spot after occupying the leadoff spot to open the year. It’s Jorge Soler moving up to the top of the order with Zach Neto batting second again on Wednesday evening.

    Injury

Mike Trout (knee) told reporters that he’s feeling good and could start running next week.

Trout has already begun hitting, which is obviously a positive sign. The 33-year-old doesn’t have a timetable for a return, and it seems likely that he’ll need at least a week or two more before he’s ready to hit in the middle of the Angels’ lineup.

Jorge Soler (groin) is not in the lineup Saturday against the Orioles.

Soler was scratched from the lineup Friday, and he’ll miss at least one more game. The hope is for Soler to return for the finale against Baltimore on Sunday, but no guarantees. Matthew Lugo is in left field with Taylor Ward the designated hitter.

    Recap

Kyle Hendricks allowed three runs over five innings in a loss Friday to the Orioles.

A very Kyle Hendricks-like start from, well, Kyle Hendricks. He was able to strike out five, but he didn’t fool Baltimore hitters for most of the contest and gave up all three runs in the first two innings. It could have been worse, but it’s pretty clear there won’t be too many starts like the 7 2/3 innings of one-run baseball like he had the last time out against the Tigers. He shouldn’t be in fantasy lineups Wednesday for his scheduled bout against the Padres.

    Recap

Trevor Larnach hit a homer that accounted for both Twins runs in a 2-1 victory over the Giants on Saturday.

Larnach hit a 108.5 mph double off Logan Webb in the first, but the Twins couldn’t capitalize then. The two-run homer came in the third, and Minnesota’s pitching staff made a 2-1 lead hold up over the rest of the evening. Larnach is batting .232/.313/.380 with six homers and 20 RBI through 39 games. It’s not great for a guy who is spending a lot of time DHing, but it seems unlikely that the Twins will be able to do better.

    Jose Altuve

    Injury

Jose Altuve left Saturday’s game against the Reds in the third inning with right hamstring tightness.

He went 0-for-1 with a walk before leaving. It’s worth noting that Altuve’s exit comes in a game where Houston is trailing by five runs, so there’s at least a chance this is precautionary. He’ll likely undergo some testing before Sunday’s finale, but it seems likely that the 35-year-old will be out of that lineup for at least that game. Brendan Rodgers has taken over at second base.

    Recap

Lars Nootbaar went 1-for-5 with a two-run double in the Cardinals’ 4-2 win over the Nationals on Saturday.

The Cardinals did all of their damage against the Nationals in the second inning on Saturday, brining in all four of their runs in the frame. Nootbaar drove in two on a double off Trevor Williams for his only hit in the game. The 27-year-old outfielder is having a solid season at the plate, slashing .243/.368/.401 with five homers, 25 runs scored, and four steals across 182 plate appearances.
