Avans made his major-league debut this past season, getting into eight games between the Athletics and Brewers. The 29-year-old outfielder, who forged a solid .776 OPS with eight homers and 40 steals in 100 games at the Triple-A level last year. will presumably have an opportunity to compete for a bench role with the Rockies next spring.

The 29-year-old outfielder had been designated for assignment over the weekend, but he passed through waivers unclaimed and it appears as though he’ll stick around in the organization as extra outfield depth for the moment. Avans has gone 2-for-17 (.118) with six strikeouts in his limited big league action between the Brewers and Athletics this season.

The Brewers needed to clear a spot on their 40-man roster for the return of Blake Perkins from the 60-day injured list and unfortunately Avans drew the short straw this time around. It seems likely that the 29-year-old outfielder will pass through waivers unclaimed and continue to function as extra outfield depth for the Brewers.

Daz Cameron, who is on the paternity list, will be activated prior to Tuesday’s game. Avans, called up Friday, made one appearance for the Brewers and went 0-for-2 with a sac fly.
