He also smacked an RBI single during the Guardians’ four-run rally in the 10th inning. The 25-year-old infielder finished the night 2-for-5 and is now hitting .225/.280/.370 with 11 homers, 50 RBI and seven stolen bases over 424 plate appearances on the season.

The 25-year-old infielder has been dealing with inflammation in his right wrist since he exited Monday’s series opener against the Royals. While they are taking things on a day-by-day basis for now, if things don’t improve by the weekend the Guardians may be forced to consider a backdated stint on the injured list. Brayan Rocchio will cover shortstop again on Thursday with Daniel Schneemann starting at second base against Stephen Kolek and the Royals.

With the game tied at one in the top of the sixth inning, Arias laced a single to right field to score Jhonkensy Noel. It was the only other run the Guardians would need to pull out the victory. Arias continues to play regularly for the Guardians, but he has fallen off fantasy radars after his hot start to the season.

The 25-year-old had been shelved since the beginning of July due to a left ankle sprain. He returns to a .231/.293/.369 slash line with six homers, 31 RBI and three stolen bases over his first 281 plate appearances. Will Wilson was optioned to Triple-A Columbus in a corresponding move on Friday. Arias will start at shortstop and bat sixth against Michael Wacha and the Royals on Friday evening in Kansas City.

He was also caught stealing, which is a bummer, but it would seem to indicate that his ankle is feeling good enough to push it. He also played the entire game at shortstop and could be nearing a return to the big league lineup.

It looked for all the world that Arias broke his ankle when he caught a clea trying to slide in the outfield grass Sunday, but fortunately, it was just a bad sprain. He still figures to miss a considerable amount of time, but he could be back to contribute at some point during the second half. Arias was hitting .231/.293/.369 in 281 plate appearances.

It’s an encouraging initial diagnosis after Arias was carted off the field during the third inning of Sunday afternoon’s contest when he left ankle rolled up underneath his body while attempting to make a sliding play to his right. It seems like a virtual lock that he’ll wind up requiring a trip to the injured list, even if the sprain winds up being on the milder end of the spectrum. It’s worth noting that X-rays came back negative for any fractures. There should be some additional clarity on his status at some in the near future.

It didn’t look good when Arias got his left leg trapped awkwardly underneath his full body weight while attempting to make a sliding grab to his right at shortstop during the third inning of Sunday afternoon’s contest. There should be an update on the 25-year-old indfielder’s status at some point shortly.

Arias delivered the go-ahead run for the Guardians, blasting an impressive home run to the deepest part of the park in San Francisco for a solo blast off Robbie Ray. He lated added a double in the ninth for his second extra-base hit. The 25-year-old infielder is hitting .239/.301/.376 with five homers, 26 RBI, and three steals across 250 plate appearances.

Arias had plenty of company in struggling against Skubal today, but this makes five straight hitless games for him. After a fine April in which he posted a .775 OPS, he’s 13-for-64 with no homers this month, dropping his OPS to .647. He might start losing some playing time against righties if this keeps up.

Arias has been red-hot at the plate recently, hitting .375 (9-for-24) over his last seven games. The 25-year-old lacks prototypical middle-of-the-order power, but the Guardians are going to give him a shot hitting ahead of José Ramírez, Carlos Santana and Kyle Manzardo, which is undoubtedly a positive for his fantasy value. He’s eligible at multiple positions — second base, shortstop and third base — and is available in the vast majority of fantasy leagues.

Arias’s double was the hardest-hit ball of the game at 109.5 mph. He has a fine .287/.339/.452 line in 127 plate appearances, even though he’s sporting the worst contact rate (60%) and fourth-highest groundball rate (58%) among 161 qualified major league hitters. It’s certainly reason for some skepticism going forward.

Arias started at shortstop, which is notable with Brayan Rocchio slashing .183/.258/.220 on the season. Arias has some swing-and-miss in his game, but he also makes a lot of hard contact. The Guardians are comfortable playing him all around the field which should lead to consistent playing time. He’s a solid player to have on your bench given his multi-position eligibility.

That makes it three homers in five games for Arias who has cemented himself as an every day player for the Guardians in the early going this season. He’s also 8-for-17 over that same five-game span with and doing well to access his tremendous raw power despite ample swing-and-miss in his game. His long ball in this one was tattooed at 108.9 mph and traveled an estimated 424 feet. He’s been a fun player to track so far.

Arias’s OPS is up nearly 300 points (.589 to .878) the last two days. He still hasn’t demonstrated much ability to hit for average, and he’s only a modest steal threat, so it wouldn’t seem to be time to pick him up in mixed leagues. Still, the Guardians will take what they can get after declining to sign a veteran stopgap for second base over the winter.
