Alonso, who just went 1-for-13 in the weekend series against the Red Sox, took Ryan Weiss deep in the fifth for his fourth homer of the year. He’s still batting just .198 for the season, but his hard-hit rate is considerably better than usual, and his 25 percent strikeout rate isn’t much of a problem. Even with the slow start, he’ll still probably get his 30 homers and 100 RBI this year.

The Orioles were down 7-1 through 5 1/2 innings, but then scored five times in the sixth, with an Alonso double starting the rally and Jeremiah Jackson’s grand slam concluding it. In the seventh, Alonso put the team ahead with a 399-foot homer off Jonathan Loáisiga. Alonso is 4-for-7 with three extra-base hits and no strikeouts the last two days, raising his OPS from .521 to .691.

Alonso worked a two-out walk off of Adrian Houser in the home half of the first inning then rode home on Samuel Basallo’s two-run blast. He then added to the O’s advantage with a two-run double off of Houser in the fifth inning that made it 4-1. He’s off to a slow start offensively with his new ballclub, slashing just .190/.288/.293 with one homer, five RBI and one stolen base.

Alonso and deGrom, obviously former Mets teammates, had a little interaction after Alonso’s single in the first, as deGrom made a pickoff throw that nearly hit Alonso while he wasn’t being held on (Jake Burger did scoot over to catch it). Alonso had the last laugh in the fourth, hitting a shot 400 feet to left center. He’s 6-for-19 for his new team.

The 31-year-old slugger went down on a swinging third strike against Luis Gil in the opening inning. He got revenge his next time up, crushing a ground-rule double (110.3 mph EV) in the fourth inning but the O’s couldn’t cash him in from there. He has had a solid spring in his first camp with the Orioles, hitting .271 (13-for-48) with a pair of homers, three RBI and even a stolen base.

The homer off Ryjeteri Merite was the third that Alonso has hit this spring, though it won’t count in his statistics. His 110-mph single was hit even harder than his 384-foot homer.

Alonso victimized Connor Pilkington in the third inning of this one, blasting a 1-2 slider for a 411-foot (107.7 mph EV) solo shot that gave the Orioles a 3-2 advantage. He grounded out to shortstop in his other plate appearance in the ballgame. The 31-year-old slugger once again batted second for the Orioles in this one, and it appears as though that could be his primary spot in the order to begin the 2026 campaign.

Every other Orioles regular came out after two at-bats, but Alonso pushed for a third after a groundout and a lineout. He got it and hit his first homer in an Orioles uniform, taking Bradley Hanner out to left. The Orioles had Alonso hitting second behind Gunnar Henderson in today’s lineup, and one wonders if that might be the Opening Day combo with probable leadoff man Jackson Holliday and frequent No. 2 hitter Jordan Westburg sidelined. Hitting second would be a little different for Alonso, but he has started there 133 times in his career. 70 of those games came in his rookie season in 2019.

The second-largest contract in Orioles history is now official. Hopefully, it works out a whole lot better than the biggest, which was Chris Davis’s ill-fated seven-year, $161 million deal signed a decade ago. Alonso will likely hit third or fourth for the Orioles, and he should benefit some from the move out of Citi Field, though more so from a singles and doubles standpoint than when it comes to homers. The signing frees up to the Orioles to part with Ryan Mountcastle or Coby Mayo and it wouldn’t be surprising to see both of them on the move. One of the two could be part a DH rotation, but neither seems entirely necessary at this point. If both do stick around, Mayo will probably open next season back in the minors.

It doesn’t come as any sort of surprise as the 30-year-old slugger had another outstanding season with the Mets — slashing .272/.347/.524 with 38 homers and 126 RBI in a career-high 709 plate appearances. He’ll once again be among the top overall bats available on the free agent market and it’ll take a highly lucrative multi-year deal in order to land him.

Alonso put the Mets on the board early with a double to drive in Francisco Lindor in the first inning. He then took Eury Pérez deep for a solo homer in the third. Alonso led off the sixth with a walk and scored again on a double by Jeff McNeil. The 30-year-old first baseman has had an outstanding season, hitting .273/.348/.526 with 38 homers, 87 runs scored, and 126 RBI across 705 plate appearances.

Alonso’s 37th homer was a solo shot off Randy Vásquez that gave him 120 RBI for the third time in his career, and he later added No. 121 on a sac fly. Alonso finished at 120 RBI while hitting 53 homers as a rookie in 2019, and he came in at 131 in 2022.

Alonso’s homer was a no-doubter at 113 mph and 437 feet. He’s overtaken his 2024 total of 34 homers, but he’s still 18 shy of the career-best 53 he hit as a rookie in 2019. He has a slim chance of establishing a new career high in RBI, but it’d take a big finish; with 11 games remaining, he’s 13 shy of his 2022 total of 131.

After failing to score in the top of the 10th, the Rangers put Juan Soto on to start the bottom of the inning, bringing up Alonso. Alonso responded with a three-run blast off Luis Curvelo. It was his first homer since he hit two on September 2. He’s now matched his 2024 total of 34 homers, doing so with 29 additional RBI (117 to 77) through 12 fewer games.

Last week, ESPN’s Jeff Passan reported that it was a “no brainer” that Alonso would opt out of his contract this offseason. When Stearns was asked by The Athletic’s Jayson Stark if Alonso’s past with the Mets matters in free agent negotiations this offseason, Stearns said that what Alonso has done on the field and what he means to the fanbase would certainly be factored in: “Pete has been a great Met. I expect him to be a great Met going forward.” There is plenty of time for this situation to play out, but it does feel like Alonso is likely to remain a Met in 2026 and beyond.

The market for the polar bear was light this past off-season, so he took $30 million to return to the Mets and then proceeded to complete his fourth career 30-homer, 100-RBI season. He could certainly still return to New York, where he is now the franchise home run leader, but it will take more years and more dollars to make that happen.

Alonso got the scoring started in the top half of the first inning with a mammoth 435-foot (112.5 mph EV) solo shot off of Sawyer Gipson-Long. He then tacked on another with a 388-foot (99.7 mph EV) blast off of Chris Paddack in the seventh inning that extended the Mets’ advantage to 8-2. He’s having another extremely productive season in the middle of the Mets’ lineup, slashing .268/.346/.521 with 33 homers and 112 RBI.

Alonso doubled off of Adam Mazur in the opening inning and scored on a two-run double off the bat of Brandon Nimmo. He then tagged Lake Bachar for a game-tying, 425-foot (111.4 mph EV) two-run shot in the fifth inning. That would be the last of the scoring for the Mets in the ballgame though. Alonso has now eclipsed the 30-homer plateau in six of his first seven seasons — the only exception being the truncated 2020 campaign. With his two-hit night, he’s now slashing .267/.348/.514 with the 30 long balls and 108 RBI.

The fourth hit was one of the Mets’ four singles off Jhoan Duran to win the game in the ninth. Alonso previously had a two-run double in the fifth, the Mets’ only extra-base hit of the night. It was his ninth career four-hit game, but just the third of those not to include a homer.

Alonso and the Mets ended up hitting six homers in the game, with three of those coming off an ineffective — to put it nicely — Spencer Strider. With the homers, he’s now the all-time leader for the Mets; passing Darryl Strawberry in the process. The man they call Polar Bear also doubled while driving in three runs; bumping his season total to 96 RBI and 28 homers. It’s still borderline insane that no one was interested in giving Alonso a long-term contract. Their loss.

That home run was Alonso’s 26th of the season and his 252nd home run as a Met, which ties Darryl Strawberry for the franchise record. It’s been a rough stretch for the Mets of late, but this was a special moment for the organization and Alonso, who returned to New York this offseason with this record in mind. The 30-year-old is having a tremendous season and will stand alone at the top of the team’s record book with his next home run.

Alonso opened the scoring in the ballgame with a sacrifice fly that plated Francisco Lindor in the home half of the first inning. He then ripped a single into center with one out in the third inning but was erased on a fielder’s choice. For the season, the 30-year-old slugger is slashing a healthy .267/.355/.512 with 25 home runs and an impressive 91 RBI.

Alonso’s three-run home run off Slade Cecconi was his 25th of the year and started the scoring for the Mets. Alonso drove in another run in the eighth inning to bring the Mets to within one. The Mets were able to tie the game before losing in extra innings. Alonso is hitting .266 with an .869 OPS and 90 RBI this season.

After going hitless in his final four games last month, Alonso has homered in back-to-back games to start August. He’s tied for 12th in the majors with 24 homers, and he’s fourth with 86 RBI, leaving him just two behind Cal Raleigh for the top spot.

Alonso was almost the entirety of the Mets offense here. His seventh inning solo shot off Robbie Ray put them on the board and his sacrifice fly the following inning drew them even before eventually falling in extra innings. After a rollicking start to his season, Alonso had a .548 OPS since June 1st entering play today and was hit-less in his last 16 at-bats. Here’s to hoping this game can help him get back on track.

Mets manager Carlos Mendoza told reporters Alonso is day-to-day after X-rays came back negative for any fractures. The 30-year-old first baseman is in jeopardy of having his franchise-record of 353 consecutive games played snapped if he doesn’t appear in Sunday’s contest. It doesn’t sound like a serious concern, but fantasy managers should keep a close eye on his status heading into Monday’s series opener against the Angels.

Alonso gave the senior circuit a commanding five-run advantage with an opposite-field shot to right field against Royals southpaw Kris Bubic in the sixth inning. The Polar Bear was called upon to anchor the National League’s three-man lineup in the swing-off tiebreaker, but didn’t end up needing to take any hacks after Kyle Schwarber went deep on all three of his swings in dramatic fashion.

Alonso had a two-run homer off Carlos Rodón in the fifth and then a three-run shot off Jayvien Sandridge that pretty much put the game away in the seventh. It’s his 24th career two-homer game and 12th with five RBI. He’s back up third in the majors with 73 RBI; both he and Eugenio Suárez are two behind Seiya Suzuki and one back of Cal Raleigh.

He also doubled off of Dylan Dodd in the seventh inning and scored on a two-run single off the bat of Jeff McNeil. With his three-hit attack, Alonso is now hitting a robust .292/.384/.549 with 18 homers and 65 RBI on the season.
