It sounds like he could play center field on Saturday if the Phillies win tonight. Bader hasn’t started since suffering a groin injury in the series opener last Saturday. The Phillies will again go with a Max Kepler-Brandon Marsh-Nick Castellanos outfield tonight.

Bader was a gametime decision because of his groin issue, and while the 31-year-old will likely be available off the bench, he’ll sit to begin the must-win game for Philadelphia. With Bader out, the Phillies lineup will go: Trea Turner SS, Kyle Schwarber DH, Bryce Harper 1B, Alec Bohm 3B, Brandon Marsh CF, J.T. Realmuto C, Max Kepler LF, Nick Castellanos RF and Bryson Stott 2B.

Bader came off the bench to deliver a clutch single before being lifted for a pinch-runner during Philadelphia’s ninth-inning rally during an eventual Game 2 loss on Monday night. The 31-year-old outfielder is limited by a groin issue that he suffered over the weekend but it sounds like there’s a chance he’ll be available in some capacity on Wednesday evening with the Phillies facing elimination.

Manager Rob Thomson said Bader, who was hurt Saturday, might be available as a pinch-hitter. The Phillies will use an Otto Kemp-Brandon Marsh-Nick Castellanos outfield against Blake Snell.

Thomson added that Bader felt better after receiving treatment and there should be additional clarity on his status heading into Monday’s pivotal Game 2 showdown. It’s an encouraging update after the 31-year-old outfielder left Saturday’s Game 1 contest with a groin tightness. There’s a chance he’s at least available off the bench for the rest of the best-of-five series, which is important with lefty Blake Snell on the mound for Game 2.

Bader told reporters after the game that he’s confident that he’ll be able to return to the lineup at some point during the series, though his availability for Game 2 on Monday remains unclear. Look for the Phillies to provide an update on his status as soon as they get the MRI results back.

Bader led off the home half of the first inning with a single off of Janson Junk and advanced to third on a one-out single by Bryce Harper. He then scored on an RBI ground out off the bat of Alec Bohm. Since joining the Phillies, Bader is hitting .314/.371/.479 with five homers and 16 RBI in 186 plate appearances.

Bader came a triple away from the cycle, which is technically a thing. The 31-year-old has been outstanding for the majority of the year, but in particular with Philadelphia. That homer gives him five since the trade — 17 overall — and in 42 games, Bader is hitting .340/.395/.531 since being acquired from Minnesota.

It was a nice night at the plate for Bader, but not so much on the bases; he was thrown out trying to stretch his first single into a double, and he was caught stealing after the second hit. At least the first miscue didn’t stop the Phillies from scoring in the second inning. It probably prevented a bigger rally, but it didn’t turn out to matter in the 1-0 game.

Bader also doubled twice and scored a pair of runs. The biggest of his three hits, however, was a two-run single off the normally effective Abner Uribe that turned an 8-8 game into a 10-8 lead and ultimately the win. Bader has been better than expected in 2025 with 47 RBI and a slash of .271/.349/.450 in his time with the Phillies and Twins.

Bader smacked a one-out triple off of Cal Quantrill in the fourth inning and scored on Bryson Stott’s RBI single. He then led off the fifth inning with a single and rode home on Kyle Schwarber’s three-run blast. The 31-year-old outfielder also doubled in the seventh and once again scored on a three-run shot by Schwarber. He finished his four-hit night with an infield single off of Vidal Brujan in the eighth inning. On the season, Bader is now slashing a healthy .269/.351/.450 with 14 homers, 44 RBI and 10 stolen bases in his first 385 plate appearances.

Bader’s homer off former Cardinals teammate Ryan Helsley tied the game in the eighth. He’s hit .288/.386/.441 in 20 games since arriving from Minnesota in trade, and unless he starts to fade, it’d make sense to keep using him regularly against right-handers at the expense of Nick Castellanos and Max Kepler.

Bader will make his Philadelphia debut on Saturday afternoon after coming off the bench during Friday’s series opener agains Detroit. It’ll be Weston Wilson in left field as Max Kepler continues playing through a triceps strain.

Bader gives the Phillies the right-handed outfield bat that they have been looking for (reportedly) for quite some time. The 31-year-old doesn’t have a ton of fantasy upside, but should get enough playing time to justify a roster spot in NL-only leagues.

Matt Gelb of The Athletic reports that outfielder Hendry Mendez and right-hander Geremy Villoria are heading to Minnesota. Bader gives the Phillies a right-handed bat who has shown the ability to clobber left-handed pitching, and also is still a solid outfielder as well. He’ll likely be in the lineup more often than not, but the fantasy value will likely be limited to NL-only formats.

With Aaron Judge likely to return from his elbow injury as a DH, at least initially, an extra outfielder, preferably one who hits right-handed, seems like a good idea for the Yankees. Bader, who struggled during a previous stint with the Yankees in 2022 and ’23, is going to be sought after by several teams after exceeding expectations by hitting .255/.336/.441 to date. Slater would probably be a fallback option. Olney didn’t mention Baltimore’s Ramón Laureano, but he’s another player who would make a lot of sense for the Yankees.

Bader has a career-high 117 wRC+ this season while hitting .254/.331/.443 with 11 homers and eight steals in 81 games. At 31 years old, Bader is not part of the future in Minnesota, so he could be moved to a contender where he can fill a short-side platoon role, and support all three outfield positions.

Bader’s home run was No. 10 on the season for him. The 31-year-old outfielder came off the bench in the bottom of the eighth inning and hit a game-tying two-run home run off Mason Montgomery. It was his third home run against the Rays in the last two games. Bader is hitting .250 with a .757 OPS and 32 RBI this year. He remains an option in AL-Only leagues.

Bader ended this game on the first pitch of the ninth inning after jumping all over a first-pitch fastball from Kevin Kelly. He did the same to open the scoring in the fourth, also with a solo home run against a first pitch sinker from Zack Littell. Once again an everyday player – mostly due to his great defense – Bader is now up to 10 home runs and seven stolen bases on the season as a steady albeit boring contributor.

Bader greatly exceeded expectations offensively over the first two months of the season, but regression seems to have set in now; he’s hitting .171/.250/.314 with 16 strikeouts in 40 plate appearances during June. Assuming that Byron Buxton is fine, Bader is probably in line to do more sitting against righties until he heats back up.

Bader took Jeffrey Springs deep in the fifth inning for his sixth homer of the season. The 31-year-old outfielders first season in the Twin Cities has gone well with a .792 OPS over 147 at-bats in 2025.

Bader is back in left field and batting eighth on Saturday night following a four-game absence due to right ring finger inflammation. The positive news here is that he’s managed to avoid a trip to the injured list. The Twins have their entire Opening Day lineup back fully healthy for the first time in nearly two months.

Bader has now missed four consecutive games due to inflammation in his right ring finger after breaking his bat on a swing over the weekend. If this continues to linger, the Twins may ultimately be forced to use a backdated stint on the injured list. Byron Buxton returned to the Twins’ lineup on Friday night and will cover center field while Willi Castro starts in left against Bryan Woo and the Mariners.

Bader has sat out three straight contests with right ring finger inflammation after breaking a bat over the weekend on a swing. The 30-year-old outfielder is presumably day-to-day heading into Friday’s series opener against the Mariners since precautionary imaging didn’t reveal any fractures or structural damage.

Bader was scratched from Monday’s lineup with right finger soreness and is presumably day-to-day for now. Initial imaging didn’t reveal any fractures, but he’s dealing with some inflammation in his right ring finger after breaking his bat over the weekend. His absence opens the door for rookie DaShawn Keirsey Jr. to get into the lineup for the eighth time in the last 11 games.

Twins manager Rocco Baldelli downplayed concern with reporters saying that the decision was precautionary after Bader felt something during a swing over the weekend. He added that they expect him to be fine going forward, but he’s undergoing further evaluation out of an abundance of caution. Fantasy managers should consider him day-to-day for now.

No word yet on the reason for the move and whether it’s an injury-related decision. Bader is hitting .321 with two homers and five steals in 18 games since the start of May. It’ll be rookie DaShawn Kiersey Jr. taking over in center field on Monday night at George M. Steinbrenner Field in Tampa Bay.

Bader struck out twice in five at-bats during Saturday’s lopsided win over the Brewers after missing a pair of contests with groin tightness. He was the lone Minnesota starter to go hitless during the one-sided affair. It’s possible he would get some extra time off if the Twins weren’t dealing with an avalanche of injuries at the moment with both Carlos Correa and Byron Buxton on the concussion injured list in addition to Willi Castro dealing with knee issues.

Bader was pulled from the second game of Wednesday’s doubleheader against the Orioles due to tightness in his groin. He then sat out Thursday’s ballgame as a precautionary measure. He’s still considered day-to-day and should rejoin the Twins’ lineup before their weekend series is through.
