Bart made $1.75 million last season in his first year of arbitration. With Henry Davis showing few signs of stepping up and Endy Rodriguez having big problems staying healthy, Bart is again in line for a lot of playing time behind the plate in Pittsburgh. He hit .249/.355/.340 in 332 plate appearances last season, as his 20 barrels produced just four home runs.

Bart also homered in his previous start, and the big game today gave him a .700 OPS for the first time since May 22. It was worth wondering a month ago if he’d be phased out of the Pirates’ plans for 2026, but he seems more likely to stick around now. After all, both Henry Davis and Endy Rodríguez will still have an option year remaining and a whole lot to prove next spring.

Bart’s power has been non-existent for the majority of 2025, but he reminded that there is some raw pop in that right-handed bat with a three-run blast off Matthew Boyd. It’s just the third homer over the season, however, and he’s slugging just .322 in his 89 games with the Bucs this season.

Incredibly enough, it’s the Pirates’ 17th shutout, putting them two up on the Padres and Tigers for the major league lead. Bart’s three-hit game was his first since June 20. He’s batting .321 with an outstanding .438 OBP in 64 plate appearances since July 26, though he does have just one homer during the span. He needs the strong finish to ensure that he’s brought back to compete with Henry Davis and Endy Rodríguez and anyone else the Pirates might add as catching help this winter. Rafael Flores, who was picked up from the Yankees in the David Bednar trade, might be in that mix, too.

He did hit a ball 386 feet, but it was to dead center. Bart has just two homers in 284 plate appearances this season, compared to 13 in 282 plate appearances last year. He’s probably going to need a strong September to convince the Pirates to bring him back next season.

Bart did his damage in the third inning with a 356-foot (98.8 mph EV) solo shot off of Jose Quintana that briefly tied the score at 1-1. That would be Bart’s only hit in the ballgame. For the season, the 28-year-old backstop is slashing just .241/.348/.309 with two homers and 19 RBI in 256 plate appearances.

The move is now official. Bart returns to take over as Pittsburgh’s starting catcher following a three-week absence after being struck in the head by a backswing on May 27. The 28-year-old backstop is hitting just .240/.347/.308 with one homer, 11 RBI and one steal in 44 games this season.

Bart has been on the concussion IL since May 28. Since then, Henry Davis has become the starting catcher and is hitting .222 with three home runs, six RBI, five runs scored and an 11/1 K/BB ratio. He will likely shift to a backup role when Bart comes back.

Bart has entered the concussion protocol after being struck in his head by a backswing in Tuesday’s game. The 28-year-old will need to clear protocol before returning, and Endy Rodriguez (finger) takes his place on the roster after coming off the 10-day injured list.

Bart should have been 3-for-5. With runners on second and third and one out in the ninth inning, he laced a groundball in the hole at short that Nick Allen had to dive to stop. With the game on the line, Allen got up and threw home, too late to get the runner, but the official scoring ruled it a fielder’s choice, even though there was little chance Allen would have even thrown Bart out at first base. Still, Bart is hitting .291/.411/.379 on the season with 10 RBI and has been a rock-solid option in two-catcher leagues this year.

Bart had missed five games with a back injury, which allowed Henry Davis to make four starts behind the plate. Bart will now return to a near-everyday role and a .275/.370/.425 slash line. Davis will go back to being a backup.

Bart won’t be hitting the injured list yet, but he’s going to sit out Saturday’s contest after making an early exit from Friday’s game with lower back discomfort.
