Crochet delivered a phenomenal performance in his playoff debut at Yankee Stadium, shaking off an early homer to stifle New York’s formidable lineup into the eighth inning. He escaped a first-inning jam with a tailor-made double play from Giancarlo Stanton but wouldn’t be so lucky in the ensuing frame when he served up a go-ahead solo homer to Anthony Volpe. The Yankees generated plenty of loud contact into the middle innings, but he avoided further damage by retiring 17 straight after Volpe’s homer. He was lifted with two outs in the eighth inning after striking out Austin Wells on his 117th pitch of the night. The 26-year-old ace will take the ball in Game 1 of the ALDS against the Blue Jays if the Red Sox manage to close out the best-of-three Wild Card Series.

No surprise here. Boston won’t know their opponent until after the regular season concludes this weekend, but Crochet will make his first career postseason on Tuesday when they kick off a three-game Wild Card Series. The 26-year-old fantasy ace wrapped up his Red Sox debut with a phenomenal 2.59 ERA and 255/46 K/BB ratio across a career-high 205 1/3 innings over 32 starts.

Although he hasn’t lost since Aug. 11, Crochet hadn’t been at his best lately, amassing a 4.68 ERA in his first four starts of September. That makes this showing particularly encouraging. With his velocity up a little from his season norm, he seemed completely in control the entire way, even though he wasn’t blowing hitters away with his six strikeouts and 10 missed swings. Crochet ends the regular season 18-5 with a 2.59 ERA and 255 strikeouts in 205 1/3 innings. He’ll almost certainly finish second to Tarik Skubal in the AL Cy Young balloting.

The Red Sox opted to give Brayan Bello an extra day of rest, which means Crochet will pitch on Wednesday. While this move is partially about Bello, it also means Crochet would be lined up to pitch Game 1 of the AL Wild Card Series on Monday or even throw a few innings of relief on Sunday if the Red Sox are in a do-or-die situation in the final game of the season. While all of that makes sense, Crochet has been much worse when pitching on four days’ rest this season, posting a 3.85 ERA in 10 starts, while he’s had a 2.27 ERA in 18 starts when he gets five days of rest. “We’re at the point in the season that we need to do this, and we’ll do it,” said Red Sox manager Alex Cora. “We took care of him during the season, and he’s going to take care of us, the rest of the season.” You’re obviously starting Crochet, even if we would have liked that extra day of rest.

Crochet gave up four hits, walked three and struck out nine. The win was his 17th of the year. Crochet allowed solo home runs to Carson Williams and Yandy Diaz, but was otherwise very good. He has a 2.69 ERA and 249/46 K/BB ratio in 197 1/3 innings this year. Crochet is lined up to face the Blue Jays at home in the final week of the regular season.

The 26-year-old southpaw matched his season-high with 12 strikeouts in the ballgame while issuing one free pass. All of the scoring done against him came via the long ball as Amed Rosario slugged a two-run homer in the fourth inning and Aaron Judge swatted a solo shot in the fifth. Crochest piled up a whopping 23 swings and misses on 99 pitches on the night — eight on his fastball — while posting a strong CSW of 37 percent. Now 16-5 on the season, he’ll bring a stellar 2.63 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and a 240/43 K/BB ratio (191 1/3 innings) into Saturday’s showdown against the Rays in Tampa Bay.

Crochet allowed three hits and walked none in the 101-pitch outing. It’s the fifth time this season that he’s gone without allowing a run, and he moved to 15-5 with a 2.57 ERA. He’s again the major league leader with 228 strikeouts, though probably only until Tarik Skubal, who has 222, pitches Friday. Crochet figures to make his next start Sunday against the Yankees.

This was a normal enough start for Crochet for five innings, with the one run he allowed coming on a very impressive Jhonkensy Noel homer on a 97-mph fastball up and out of the zone. The sixth inning was what things went nuts; Crochet gave up a solo homer to Austin Hedges to start the inning, a two-run homer to David Fry with two outs and then a three-run homer to Brayan Rocchio. Crochet had previously allowed multiple homers in just four of his 59 starts. The seven runs topped his previous season high by two and matched his career high. He’ll likely next face the A’s on Monday.

Starting on four days’ rest for the first time in the second half, Crochet wasn’t quite as sharp as usual today, though it didn’t really show up in the box score. The odd thing was that he hit two batters, tripling his season total from one to three. Crochet didn’t factor into the decision, leaving him tied for second in the majors with 14 wins. He did briefly reclaim the strikeout lead from Tarik Skubal, 214 to 212. Crochet will face the Guardians next week.

Crochet put together a brilliant effort in a big spot at Yankee Stadium, limiting New York’s formidable lineup to just a fourth-inning solo blast by Giancarlo Stanton over seven frames. He generated 12 swinging strikes and finished with a 30 percent CSW. It wasn’t his most dominant performance of the year, but he still managed to record double-digit strikeouts for the sixth time in his Boston debut. He’ll bring a sublime 2.38 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 207/42 K/BB ratio across 166 1/3 innings (26 starts) into a road tilt on Thursday against the Orioles.

Crochet was dominant on Sunday, with his only real blemish being a solo home run to Eric Wagaman. He struck out eight, walked one, and recorded a 29 percent whiff rate and 30 percent CSW. Unfortunately, the Red Sox bullpen allowed four runs in the final two innings to rob their ace of a win.

Crochet cruised for two innings, but he gave up four hits and three runs in the third and then a double and a two-run homer in the fourth. That took him to 86 pitches on the night, and he wasn’t brought back out for the fifth. It was his shortest start of the year, and the five runs matched his season high. Crochet had been 10-0 with two no-decisions since his previous loss. He’ll face the Marlins next.

Crochet took the ball on 10 days of rest and punctuated an impressive 105-pitch outing with a punchout of Nick Loftin to wrap up seven spectacular frames. He generated 15 swinging strikes and averaged a sizzling 97.3 mph on his fastball in this one, up a few ticks from his season average. The 26-year-old fantasy ace has allowed two earned runs or fewer in five consecutive starts since July 6. He’ll carry a sublime 2.24 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 183/39 K/BB ratio across 148 1/3 innings (23 starts) into a road tilt on Monday against the Astros.

This is part of the Red Sox’s plan to manage Crochet’s workload while keeping him in the rotation for the remainder of the season. Instead of limiting his innings when he does start, like the White Sox did last season, the Red Sox will give Crochet a few extra days of rest when the opportunity presents itself so that they can get full starts out of him. This doesn’t change his fantasy value, but it might mean that he doesn’t have many two-start weeks in him for the remainder of the season.

Shohei Ohtani and Teoscar Hernández hit solo homers in the first, giving the Dodgers a quick 2-0 lead. They never scored again afterwards, though. Crochet did give up six more hits, but he was helped by the Dodgers having a couple of guys thrown out on the basepaths and he got big strikeouts when he needed to. He’s 8-0 in his last 10 starts, and he’s fourth in the majors with a 2.23 ERA. He’ll face the Astros next.

The Red Sox were down 1-0 when Crochet’s day concluded, but they took a 2-1 lead in the top of the seventh to put him in line for the win. Although he’s pitching no better now than he did earlier in the season, he’s 7-0 in his last nine starts, compared to 4-4 in his first 12. He’ll face the Dodgers next.

Crochet struck out nine and just missed the Maddux, coming in at exactly 100 pitches today. It’s his fourth scoreless start of the year and his sixth straight victory, even though his ERA has increased during the run; he’s 6-0 with a 2.48 ERA in his last eight starts after going 4-4 with a 2.04 ERA in his first 12. It’s too bad he’s opted out of the All-Star Game but probably for the best, given that he’s up to 129 1/3 innings already. He finished at 146 last year.

Crochet will have his final start prior to the All-Star break moved back an extra day with Hunter Dobbins (elbow) coming off the injured list on Friday to face the Rays. Dobbins offers some streaming appeal for fantasy managers in deeper mixed leagues. He looked sharp in his final rehab outing on Saturday with eight strikeouts over five innings for Triple-A Worcester.

This was a bit of a weird one. Crochet struck out two in the first inning, but he also allowed a single and a nine-pitch walk to Amed Rosario. Then there was a rain delay, and Crochet came out and struggled to find any sort of consistency. He allowed three baserunners but no runs in the second and then allowed two runs on four hits in the third before settling down for the fourth and fifth. It’s best to just be thankful this wasn’t weirder with the rain delay and move on. Crochet will take a 2.39 ERA into a start against the Rays next week.

The Red Sox seemed to have this one concluded early with a seven-run first inning and Crochet on the mound, but the Reds made things interesting by rallying for five runs off the likely All-Star. It’s just the third time this season that Crochet has allowed more than two earned runs. Getting some better run support, he finishes his month of June 4-0 with a 2.68 ERA. He was 4-4 with a 2.04 ERA through 12 previous starts. He’s likely to make his next start Sunday against the Nationals.

Crochet was outstanding on Tuesday, holding the Angels scoreless over seven frames. He scattered three hits and thee walks, striking out ten batters on 14 whiffs for his fourth double-digit strikeout effort of the season. He would have to settle for a no-decision after the Angels tied the game in the eighth. The 26-year-old left-hander will take a 2.06 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and a 135/31 K/BB ratio across 109 1/3 innings into a start against the Reds in Boston on Monday.

Well, sometimes in baseball all you can do is tip your cap. Crochet was just two outs away from both the first shutout and complete game of his career before Aaron Judge put a 3-2 fastball out and over the Green Monster onto the streets of Boston. That shouldn’t take away from this masterful start though. He only allowed one Yankee to reach scoring position before that blast and overpowered them with fastballs and cutters at the top of the zone. He’s ascended to undoubted ace status and can be trusted as one of the five or so best pitchers in baseball moving forward. His next start is scheduled to come against the Mariners on the road.

Crochet gave up three runs in the second, two of which came on an Austin Wells homer that would have left only three ballparks. The other two came in the fourth. Crochet faced the minimum after that, with the only batter reaching against him doing so on catcher interference. That runner was erased on a double play. Crochet is expected face the Yankees again next time out, probably on on Friday.

Marcell Ozuna’s first-inning homer proved to be the only run of the game for the Braves. Crochet got 23 whiffs and allowed just three hard-hit balls while lowering his ERA to 1.98. He’s allowed one or no earned runs in eight of his 13 starts. Crochet will face the Yankees next time out.

As if facing Crochet isn’t tough enough, hitters had to deal with shadows between the plate and the mound for the first several innings today. Crochet matched his season high in strikeouts, but he wound up taking a loss anyway. Because of the futility of the Red Sox offense, Crochet is 1-2 with a 2.03 ERA this month. He’s 4-4 with a 2.04 ERA overall. Crochet’s turn in the rotation isn’t due up again until next Monday, when the Angels arrive in Boston, but perhaps the Red Sox could move him up to face the Braves on Sunday.

The runs came on back-to-back homers from Matt Olson and Sean Murphy in the second. Crochet was terrific afterwards, and he finished the game with eight strikeouts and no walks. The loss left him 4-3 with a 2.00 ERA after 10 starts. Through 10 starts last season, he was 4-4 in spite of a 4.18 ERA for the lowly White Sox.

Crochet had some of his best stuff tonight, particularly when it came to his cutter; he averaged 92.5 mph with the pitch, up from 90.3 mph on average this season. He wound up getting 18 missed swings, and all but one of the seven hits he allowed was a single. Crochet is now 4-2 with a 1.93 ERA. He’ll face the Braves next, and he’ll probably be matched up with Chris Sale, which should be fun.

After racking up nearly 100 pitches in each of the last two games, the Red Sox opted to limit Crochet to 89 pitches in five innings here with a fully rested bullpen. It did not work out in the end. Crochet himself struck out six and walked two, posting a 31 percent whiff rate and 26 percent CSW. He struggled to find the zone with a few of his offerings today and only had nine called strikes in total. He still has a stellar 2.02 ERA, but he has not been as crisp as we’re used to seeing early in the season. He’ll be back on the mound next week against the Royals.
