If it’s not Sunday, the Reds are hoping that he would be available for the start of the postseason, provided they’re able to secure the final Wild Card berth in the National League.

Hays singled off of Colin Rea in the opening inning, but the Reds were unable to cash him in. He then smacked a leadoff double in the fourth inning and scored on an RBI double off the bat of Will Benson. Hays has gone 8-for-29 (.276) in September with three home runs, five runs scored, and eight RBI. That includes an 0-for-4 game to start the month, so he’s hitting .320 with three home runs, five runs scored, and eight RBI over his last six games. After two more games against the Padres, the Reds travel to Sacramento to face the Athletics in a hitter-haven, so Hays should be added in more formats.

Hays is one of several average-ish Reds hitters who could lose some playing time to Sal Stewart, but this will help the cause. He’s homered twice in three games, and he’s back up to .263/.317/.461 overall.

Hays put Cincinnati ahead with a fifth-inning blast against Cardinals starter Andre Pallante. It was his second big fly in the last five games after not leaving the yard since a two-homer explosion back on July 18.

Hays cut into the Dodgers’ lead with a two-run blast off Ben Casparius in the seventh inning. He later added a base hit in the ninth for his second hit of the game. It was the first home run for Hays since hitting two on July 18. The 30-year-old outfielder is hitting .268/.324/.454 with 11 homers, 49 runs scored, and 53 RBI across 333 plate appearances.

The 30-year-old outfielder led off the second inning with a single and pulled off a double steal with Ke’Bryan Hayes, but the Reds were unable to cash him in. He then smacked a go-ahead RBI single in the eighth inning and rode home on Spencer Steer’s three-run blast. With his three-hit afternoon, Hays is now hitting .264/.320/.444 with 10 homers, 51 RBI and a career-high six stolen bases in 325 plate appearances with the Reds.

Hays finally got the Reds on the board with a run-scoring single off of Jake Woodford in the eighth inning, but all that did was put a Band Aid on a stab wound at that stage. He also drew a walk in the second inning and swiped second base, but the Reds were unable to cash him in. With his two-hit night, the 30-year-old outfielder is now hitting .259/.316/.441 with 10 homers, 50 RBI and five stolen bases over 290 plate appearances on the season.

Hays scored the first run of the game in the seventh inning. He started the inning with a double and later scored on a sacrifice fly. Hays’ walk-off single in the 10th inning sealed the win for the Reds. He’s hitting .258 with a .761 OPS and 47 RBI this year, and now has multiple hits in each of his last two starts after a 16-game stretch where he hit just .138/.231/.172 starting at the end of July.

The Reds lineup is less set now with Ke’Bryan Hayes joining the mix and Noelvi Marte becoming more of an outfielder, and it’ll probably mean more days off for all of the corner players. Gavin Lux had a rare absence against a righty last night, and with Marte making a third straight start in right, Hays is on the bench today.

Hays came into today hitting .253/.327/.448 in 24 games since coming off the IL with four home runs, 15 runs scored, and 16 RBI. He starts every day at clean-up for a surging Reds team and plays in the best offensive ballpark in baseball. He probably needs to be rostered in more formats.

Hays got the only hit off Mets’ starter Sean Manaea and made it count by sending it over the fence. Then, the Reds feasted on the Mets bullpen for seven runs from the fifth inning onward. Hays got in on the action with his second blast of the game and walked later on with the bases loaded. It’s been the best season of his career to this point with 10 homers in 48 games and an .887 OPS as a regular in the heart of Cincinnati’s lineup.

Hays got the Reds on the board first in this one with a two-out RBI single off of Cal Quantrill in the opening inning that plated Elly De La Cruz from second base. He then capped off the scoring with a two-run single that chased Quantrill in the sixth inning. Hays also drew a walk, reaching base safely in three of his four plate appearances. The 30-year-old outfielder has done a nice job in his limited action this season, hitting .277/.318/.524 with eight homers and 35 RBI in 178 plate appearances.

Hays jumped on a fifth-inning pitch from Zack Wheeler and hit it 377 feet at 100.3 mph for the only hit and run of the game for the Reds. Hays now has eight home runs and 31 RBI on the season and has been really solid when healthy for Cincinnati. He deserves to be rostered in most league types until his next IL stint.

Hays is the league leader with three IL stints, but he’s right up there in OPS, too, having come in at .295/.326/.568 in his 35 games played. He’s driven in 29 runs while mostly serving as the Reds’ cleanup man, and he seems worth using in mixed leagues right now.

Hays returned from the injured list on Friday, going 1-for-4 with a double and an RBI. This is likely their way of just easing him back into a full-time role. Rece Hinds will start in his place in right field and bat seventh for the Reds against Randy Vasquez and the Padres on Saturday afternoon in Cincinnati.

Hays underwent additional imaging due to persistent pain in his left foot, so it’s an encouraging sign that he isn’t dealing with anything more serious than a deep bone bruise. The 29-year-old outfielder told reporters earlier this week that he was close to returning to Cincinnati’s lineup, but that seems unlikely given this latest development.

Hays thinks he’ll be back before the end of the current series against the Guardians. Connor Joe could be sent down to make room for him. Will Benson and Spencer Steer might both be in line to lose some playing time.

A third IL stint already. Hays still has an excellent season line of .303/.346/.555 after his hot start in his first weeks back from the IL in mid-April, but he’d been just average of late, hitting .254/.278/.433 in 72 appearances since returning from the IL for a second time earlier this month. Jake Fraley was activated in his place today and will take over for him against right-handers. Against lefties, the Reds will probably put Tyler Stephenson at DH and have Jose Trevino catch.

Hays is now hitting .324 with 24 RBI on the season after starting the year on the injured list. He hits cleanup for the Reds every day and should remain a solid fantasy option this year for as long as he stays healthy.

Even though his OPS has been tumbling, Hays has driven in runs in five of the last six games while batting cleanup for the Reds. The three-hit game was his second of the year; he had four hits in the 24-2 thrashing of the Orioles on Apr. 20.
