Moore will hit ninth and play second base in his MLB debut against the Orioles on Friday. The Angels waited a little longer for this first-round pick to make his debut, but it’s yet another fast promotion from the Halos. Moore is one of the better second base prospects in baseball, and the ability to help —but not dominate — in all five categories makes him worthy of roster consideration in redraft formats.

Moore, the eighth overall selection from the 2024 draft class, has hit .279/.374/.422 with five homers, 32 RBI, eight stolen bases (in 12 attempts) and a 65/31 K/BB ratio over 238 plate appearances between Double-A Rocket City and Triple-A Salt Lake this season. He has been playing second base exclusively in the minor leagues, so perhaps it’s time the Halos pull the plug on the Scott Kingery experiment there.

After a rather disappointing stint in Double-A, Moore has hit .333/.414/.467 in 15 games since joining the Bees. For the season, he’s still slugging just .370 and has a 28 percent strikeout rate, suggesting he’s not ready for the majors yet. It’s rare for the Angels to let something like that stop them, though.

The Angels’ top prospect is now 13-for-31 (.419) in eight games at Triple-A with one home run, 10 RBI and three steals. He does have a 10/6 K/BB ratio with an 11 percent swinging strike rate, but neither of those is too egregious. The Angels have always been aggressive in promoting their prospects, so it’s not crazy to think we see Moore get a shot at the big league level sometime in June.

The Angels have been extremely aggressive with Moore’s trajectory after plucking him with the eighth-overall pick in the 2024 MLB Draft. The 22-year-old second baseman’s long-term dynasty stock has taken a hit in recent weeks as he’s struggled to a pedestrian .234/.342/.323 triple-slash line with one homer and five steals in 34 games this season for Double-A Rocket City. He’s still a top-100 prospect, but he’s definitely gotten off to a slow start relative to last year’s impressive professional debut.
