Larnach worked a walk in the opening inning and scored the Twins’ first run on an RBI single by Royce Lewis. He also drew a walk in the fifth inning and swiped second base. Larnach then smacked a sacrifice fly in the sixth inning that pulled the Twins to within two runs at 10-8. He then tagged David Bednar for a 426-foot (110.5 mph EV) solo shot in the ninth that made it a 10-9 ballgame. Unfortunately for the Twins, that’s as close as they would get. For the season, the 28-year-old slugger is now slashing .254/.328/.411 with 17 homers, 60 RBI and four stolen bases on the season.

That wouldn’t seem to make muse sense. However, while the Twins are facing a left-handed opener in Fraser Ellard today, they’ve mostly set the lineup as if they were facing a righty. The one caveat there is that Kody Clemens is on the bench. Also, Larnach is batting fifth, rather than his usual second.

Larnach was scratched from the Twins’ lineup on Wednesday due to soreness in his side and it doesn’t sound like he improved much over Thursday’s off-day. There haven’t been any rumblings yet about him requiring a stint on the injured list, but if this lingers through the weekend the Twins’ hand may be forced on this one. Mickey Gasper will function as the team’s designated hitter on Friday and will bat ninth against Seth Lugo and the Royals.

Larnach’s home run was No. 13 on the year for him. The 28-year-old outfielder belted a two-run shot off Paul Skenes in the fourth inning. Those were the only runs the Twins scored in the 2-1 victory over the Pirates. Larnach is hitting ..250 with a .737 OPS and 41 RBI this season.

Larnach is 7-for-38 with no RBI and a 12/1 K/BB in his last 11 games. It’s not going to get him pulled from the lineup, but maybe he’ll be dropped for a bit. The problem for the Twins is that their lineup is really just Byron Buxton and a whole bunch of guys who should be batting sixth, and they didn’t even have Buxton today.

In a scoreless game in the fifth inning, Larnach smoked a two-run homer off Emerson Hancock to give the Twins a 2-0 lead. They’d score the next eight in a game that ended up being a rout, but it doesn’t happen without Larnach. He also drive in a run on a fielder’s choice in an eight-run sixth inning. Larnach has homered 12 times over the first half of the campaign, and he’s plated 39 runs. Those aren’t elite numbers, but there’s been some strong moments for Larnach over his first 282 at-bats.

The presence of veteran southpaw Jose Quintana on the mound for Milwaukee makes it easier for Minnesota to give Larnach an extra day of rest after being scratched from Friday’s lineup with a right hand contusion. It’ll be Willi Castro heading out to handle right field with Matt Wallner at DH on Saturday afternoon in his absence.

It sounds like a precautionary decision to give Larnach some extra time off amid a 1-for-10 stretch during a three-game set against the Rangers. The 28-year-old corner outfielder figures to get back in there for the Twins at some point this weekend.

Larnach got the Twins on the board in the fourth with a rocket to right off Brian Woo. He also singled in a run in the ninth off the normally reliable Andrés Muñoz to tie the game at 6-6, and he doubled home two more an inning later to give the Twins a 12-6 lead in the tenth. Larnach has been a steady performer in 2025 with a .255/.323/.422 slash over 204 at-bats.

Larnach hit a 108.5 mph double off Logan Webb in the first, but the Twins couldn’t capitalize then. The two-run homer came in the third, and Minnesota’s pitching staff made a 2-1 lead hold up over the rest of the evening. Larnach is batting .232/.313/.380 with six homers and 20 RBI through 39 games. It’s not great for a guy who is spending a lot of time DHing, but it seems unlikely that the Twins will be able to do better.

He then clubbed a 409-foot (110.6 mph EV) three-run homer off of Carl Edwards Jr. in the fourth inning that made it a 9-1 ballgame. After going his first 19 games of the season without a home run, Larnach has now slugged four in his last seven contests. On the season, he’s slashing .224/.330/.388 with four homers and 13 RBI.

He then victimized right-hander Mike Vasil for a 434-foot (106.4 mph EV) two-run shot in the eighth inning that increased the Twins’ lead to 4-1 and proved to be the difference in the ballgame. His bat has started to show signs of life over the past few games, though he’s still slashing just .200/.307/.293 to go along with a pair of homers and seven RBI.

Larnach sent his home run off Bryce Elder into orbit. He attacked a changeup that sat in the heart of the zone like it was on a tee and blasted 407 feet and 111.8 mph. It’s been a struggle for Larnach to start the season, but he’s been afforded some extra time to get himself going since Matt Wallner is out with a hamstring strain.
