Mayo reached base safely in all three of his plate appearances in this one and is quietly batting .306 (19-for-62) over 19 games since the start of September. The 23-year-old former top prospect has recorded multiple hits in four of his last 10 games. He’s clearly building some momentum heading into next season.

The double was a 90.5-mph fly down the left field line that barely caught some chalk near the low wall at Camden Yards. Mayo is now 10-for-25 with two homers in his last eight games. He’s still not hitting the ball particularly hard, but just getting it in play more is working out for him.

Mayo knocked a base hit in the second inning, then gave the Orioles an insurance run with a solo homer off Braydon Fisher in the ninth. It was Mayo’s eighth homer of the season. The 23-year-old first baseman is slashing a disappointing .191/.263/.342 with 22 runs scored and 23 RBI across 247 plate appearances.

Mayo is 1-for-17 with no hard-hit balls in his last five games, and he’s down to .188/.269/.320 for the season now. He also wasn’t very good in his 45 games in Triple-A (.226/.318/.452). No one is giving up on him long term, but this has been quite the discouraging season for the 23-year-old.

Mayo was drilled in the right hand by a pitch from Bryan Abreu to open the ninth inning. He stayed in the game to run the bases for himself but was sent for precautionary X-rays after the game. All seems to have checked out well. The 23-year-old slugger should be considered day-to-day.

Mayo broke a scoreless tie in the fourth inning with his laser beam into the Crawford Boxes for his fifth home run of the season. While he hasn’t produced much at the plate, he’s finally been given the reins to start everyday. Of their 12 games since the trade deadline, he’s been in the lineup for 11 of them. Hopefully that consistency gives him the jolt he needs to finally carve out his spot in the league.

The homer off Ranger Suárez was Mayo’s fourth in 135 plate appearances this season. He showed signs of heating up in late August, but he came into this one 2-for-22 with no extra-base hits in his previous seven games. Now that he’s playing regularly, it’d be nice to think he’s going to offer some mixed-league value. He just hasn’t shown any consistency yet, though.

The 23-year-old figures to start both games of the doubleheader with the Blue Jays throwing two left-handed pitchers. Mayo has started the second half going 7-for-17 with two home runs and five RBI. With Ryan O’Hearn likely being moved at the deadline, it’s possible that we will finally see Mayo get consistent playing time at the big league level and make good on his prospect pedigree.

Mayo is one of the young hitters poised to benefit from some additional playing time on a rebuilding club following this week’s trade deadline. The 23-year-old former top prospect appears to be gaining some confidence recently after struggling mightily in the big leagues over the last two seasons. He punctuated his first three-hit performance in the majors with a third-inning homer against Blue Jays starter Chris Bassitt before adding an RBI ground out in the fifth. He’s the type of up-and-coming hitter that needs to be rostered in deeper mixed leagues, especially since he figures to play everyday at first base once Ryan O’Hearn is shipped out in a couple days.

What a novel concept by the Orioles by playing one of their top prospects in this game. Mayo has struggled to get off the bench this season and his .616 OPS also hasn’t forced Baltimore’s hand. However, he hit a long 413 foot in this game to remind everyone about his gaudy raw power. Also, the Orioles pinch-hit Ryan O’Hearn for him with two outs and a runner on second base trailing by one run in the eighth inning. O’Hearn promptly struck out and they blew a great chance for a talented rookie who should be one of the key pieces to the future of their franchise to build some momentum. The Orioles simply cannot get out of their own way sometimes.

The single was a pop fly to shallow center than Angel Martínez should have caught, but three walks is pretty good, especially when the rest of the Orioles lineup had three combined. Mayo was starting tonight for the second time since the All-Star break and fourth time this month. His usage would make a lot more sense if the Orioles were in contention, but given that they’re clearly planning to sell, it’s about time to make him a lineup fixture and just see what happens.

Mayo is making just his fourth start since July 1. The 23-year-old former top prospect would likely benefit from playing regularly at the Triple-A level, but he figures to have a clearer path to at-bats once Baltimore jettisons All-Star Ryan O’Hearn, who is on the bench on Tuesday night, at the upcoming trade deadline.

It appeared that the Orioles pulled him for defense, as he’s still learning the finer points of playing first base. Mayo is 10-for-47 with no homers and four doubles in 15 games since being recalled from Triple-A on May 31. One can still dream of him offering mixed-league value at some point during the second half, but it’s not happening right now.

With Jordan Westburg back and Ramón Urías still available, there’s very little need for Mayo at third base right now. There still should be ample opportunity for him first and DH, but he’s going to have to step up and claim it; he’s been on the bench the last two times the Orioles have faced righties.

Mayo has been taking defensive reps at the cold corner since returning to the majors last week and will make his first career start at the position on Wednesday night in Seattle. The extra defensive versatility helps give him another avenue to at-bats in Baltimore’s lineup moving forward.

Mayo went 1-for-3 with an RBI on Saturday after being promoted from Triple-A Norfolk. The 23-year-old top prospect figures to continue occupying the DH spot, but could also see some time at first base, while Ryan Mountcastle is on the injured list with a hamstring strain.

The talent is there, but the results simply haven’t been for Mayo in several stints at the highest level over the past two seasons. The 23-year-old top prospect, who has hit .094 (5-for-53) in 21 games in the majors, will get another chance with Ryan Mountcastle hitting the injured list ahead of Saturday’s showdown against the White Sox with a hamstring strain. He’ll need to show something in the big leagues before fantasy managers in shallow mixed leagues can trust him with a roster spot, but he’s certainly talented enough to flip the switch.

The 23-year-old top prospect is either being summoned as an insurance policy in case Ryan Mountcastle has to go on the injured list after leaving Friday’s game with a hamstring injury, or the O’s already know that Mountcastle is going to miss some time and they need Mayo there as soon as possible. We’ll know more before Saturday’s game, but it sounds like it could be the latter.

Mayo saw just 13 plate appearances during his brief stay with the big league club, going 1-for-12 (.083) with a single and a 6/1 K/BB ratio. He’ll return to an everyday role at Norfolk where he’ll continue to sharpen his skills until a full-time opportunity emerges with the Orioles.

Mayo has gone 0-for-8 with five strikeouts in three games since returning last weekend to the big leagues. The 23-year-old top prospect figures to be ticketed for Triple-A Norfolk once starting third baseman Jordan Westburg (hamstring) is ready to return from the injured list, which could be as early as next week. It’ll be veteran Emmanuel Rivera drawing a start at the hot corner on Wednesday night.

Mayo has gone 0-for-5 with one walk and a pair of strikeouts in three games since being recalled over the weekend from Triple-A Norfolk. It’s unclear how much runway the 23-year-old top prospect is going to have to carve out a role at the highest level with starting third baseman Jordan Westburg (hamstring) getting closer to returning from the injured list. The talent is there, but the results simply haven’t been for Mayo at the big-league level.

Mayo came off the bench and went 0-for-2 in his season debut on Saturday just a few hours after making the trip to Camden Yards from Triple-A Norfolk. The 23-year-old top prospect will make his first start on Sunday afternoon facing Royals veteran righty Michael Lorenzen. The lack of production at the highest level doesn’t inspire confidence from fantasy managers, especially those in shallow mixed leagues, but the talent is there for him to make a serious four-category impact. He’s at least worthy of a speculative roster spot in all fantasy formats for now.

Mayo is officially up with Ramon Urias hitting the injured list due to a hamstring strain. The 23-year-old is one of the top infield prospects in baseball, and while he was awful in his limited taste last year, his power potential makes him a player worthy of roster consideration for those in need of pop/help in the corner infield.

Weyrich’s report comes shortly after MASN’s Roch Kubatko noted that Mayo was on his way to Camden Yards ahead of Saturday’s showdown against the Royals just in case. It certainly sounds like veteran Ramón Urías (hamstring) is headed to the injured list with Mayo coming up to play everyday at third base until Jordan Westburg (hamstring) is ready to return. The 23-year-old top prospect is worthy of a speculative pickup, especially in deeper fantasy formats, based on his raw talent alone. He struggled mightily last year in his first real chance at the highest level, but he’s looked great this season at Triple-A Norfolk, hitting .255/.353/.539 with six homers in 27 games. We’re believers in the talent.

It’s not official that Mayo will be called up prior to Saturday’s game against the Royals, but he’s been summoned to Camden Yards just in case. Veteran Ramón Urías is dealing with a hamstring issue and it’s possible he’ll wind up requiring a trip to the injured list. The 23-year-old top prospect flopped last year in his first shot at the highest level, but he’s been on fire this season at Triple-A Norfolk, hitting .255/.353/.539 with six homers in 27 games. He’s obviously worthy of a speculative roster spot in deeper mixed leagues, even if it winds up only being a short stay in the majors until Jordan Westburg (hamstring) is back.

Mayo is now up to six home runs and 21 RBI on the season while sporting a .935 OPS. Yet, even with Jordan Westburg on the injured list, Mayo remains at Triple-A with Ramon Urias starting games for Baltimore. At this point, it’s unclear when, or if, Mayo will get another shot in Baltimore. His best bet at playing time may be as a trade piece that brings a starting pitcher back to Baltimore.

Mayo has gone deep three times over his last four games and has recorded at least one hit in eight of his previous nine contests since April 5. The 23-year-old top prospect doesn’t have much, if anything, left to prove at the Triple-A level. However, there’s no indication that the Orioles are ready to give him another look at the highest level right now. He remains a top-10 range prospect for dynasty purposes until further notice.

Mayo had a poor start to the season after expressing frustration following his demotion to Triple-A; however, he is currently riding a nine-game hitting streak in which he has gone 9-for-25 (.360) with two home runs, eight RBI, and a 7:6 K:BB ratio. If he keeps hitting like this, he’ll force the Orioles to either find a spot for him or trade him for an established pitcher.

There’s some serious prospect fatigue going on here as Mayo seemingly languishes at the Triple-A level after flopping last season in his first chance at the highest level. The 23-year-old third baseman remains an elite dynasty prospect until further notice, but the excitement level among fantasy managers has certainly declined, especially since Mayo is hitting just .213 (10-for-47) with two homers and a 15/8 K/BB ratio through 13 games at Triple-A Norfolk.
