A walk and a double brought a run in for the Dodgers in the first inning. Martinez gave up one more run in the fourth on two hits and a sacrifice fly. Will Smith later took him deep for a solo homer to lead off the sixth. Martinez would leave with one out and one runner on at 104 pitches. He struck out three. The 35-year-old right-hander holds a 4.67 ERA, 1.22 WHIP, and a 108/36 K/BB ratio across 150 1/3 innings. He’s tentatively lined up to start against the Blue Jays in Cincinnati on Monday, but the imminent return of Nick Lodolo (finger) from the injured list could push Martinez back into the bullpen.

Yoán Moncada’s drive to left-center in the fourth would have been a double in most parks, but it cleared the wall in Anaheim, accounting for the lone run. Martinez went on to strike out seven before exiting a 1-1 game, keeping his record at 10-9 with a 4.59 ERA. He’ll face the Dodgers next.

Martinez got through two scoreless innings before two hits and a sacrifice fly put the Pirates on the board with a run in the third. He settled in four more scoreless frames, giving up just the one run over seven while striking out four batters. The 35-year-old right-hander ends the day with a 4.49 ERA, 1.19 WHIP, and a 97/33 K/BB ratio across 136 1/3 innings. Martinez would line up for a start against the Brewers in Cincinnati next weekend, though he could return to the bullpen with Hunter Greene set to return soon.

Dansby Swanson hit a two-run homer off him. Martinez was making just his third relief appearance of the year, as the Reds have decided to move him to middle relief and stick with Chase Burns after Hunter Greene returns. However, Martinez would presumably get his spot back if Lodolo’s blister issues put him on the IL.

Martinez rode his deep pitch mix to a quality start here. He worked all four quadrants of the zone and threw each of his six pitches at least 8 percent of the time. Also, he forced at least one swing-and-miss with five of them. Those six strikeouts were also his most in any start since all the way back on April 9. Things don’t get easier for him next time out, as he’s scheduled to face the Cubs in Chicago.

Martinez allowed just two hard-hit balls today, though one was a homer and he still gave up six hits anyway. It was a solid showing, though, as he works to undo the damage of the 10-run calamity against the Marlins that took place 11 days ago. He’s 8-9 with a 4.73 ERA, and he’ll take on the Rays next week.

Martinez struck out three and walked one on the day while registering a 15 percent whiff rate and 26 percent CSW. It wasn’t a dominant performance, but his slider missed bats, and his four-seam fastball was located well. The Rockies didn’t have a single extra-base hit on the day and only had one baserunner outside of the third and sixth innings. Martinez has a 4.78 ERA on the season and is just a streamer in fantasy leagues.

The 34-year-old right-hander also walked three batters during the unfortunate evening while striking out a pair. After keeping the Marlins off the board for the first two innings, the flood gates opened as the Marlins scored seven times to take a commanding lead. He then returned to work two more scoreless innings before loading the bases with no outs to open the sixth inning. Martinez then gave way to the bullpen and all three inherited runners ultimately scored. He got just three swings and misses on 85 pitches on the night while posting an uninspiring CSW of only 20 percent. He’ll look to finish the first half on a high note when he carries a 4.85 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and a 73/24 K/BB ratio (105 2/3 innings) into Sunday’s battle against the Rockies.

Coming off his near no-no, Martinez was knocked around pretty good in this one, giving up a homer, four doubles and four singles while getting just two strikeouts. He also got an out on a Jarren Duran fly to right that would have been a homer in 25 ballparks, according to Statcast. Still, the Red Sox made some baserunning mistakes and finished the night just 1-for-9 with RISP, and Martinez held on long enough to get the win after the Reds scored five times in the seventh inning. He moves to 6-8 with a 4.05 ERA ahead of a start against the Marlins next week.

Martinez entered the ninth inning with a no-hit bid before allowing a double to Elias Diaz. The 34-year-old right-hander had allowed 17 earned runs in 18 1/3 innings over his first four starts in June, but the Reds allowed him to make two relief appearances between this start and his last start on June 19. Martinez appears to have figures something out as he threw three scoreless innings in those two relief appearances and had his best start of the season against the Padres on Friday. Martinez has a 4.12 ERA and 69/21 K/BB ratio in 94 innings this year. He’s lined up to face the Red Sox on the road next week.

Martinez has been utilized in relief during previous years, so the move doesn’t come as a total shock. The 34-year-old veteran was lit up for seven runs over 2 2/3 innings on Thursday in an abbreviated outing against the Twins. It doesn’t sound like the Reds are making a swap in their rotation, but it’s a situation to monitor.

Martinez was shellacked for seven hits, and three of those left the park. He did strike out four in his short time on the mound, but that’s not even a consolation prize. Martinez has now given up at least four runs in three of his last four starts, and he’s seen ins ERA balloon from 3.48 to 4.55 in the process. It’d be a mistake to trust him as a streaming option against the Yankees on Tuesday.

The 34-year-old right-hander piled up five strikeouts on the night while issuing a pair of walks. He served up a solo homer to Gleyber Torres on the first pitch that he threw in the ballgame. Martinez also gave up solo shots to Riley Greene in the third inning and Javier Baez in the fourth. He then exited after walking Baez to open the sixth inning and he ultimately came around to score. Martinez got seven whiffs on 89 pitches on the night, posting a CSW of 24 percent. He’ll look to get back on track as he brings a 3.92 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and a 58/18 K/BB ratio (80 1/3 innings) into Thursday’s matchup against the Twins.

Martinez served up a solo homer to Eugenio Suarez in the second inning. That would be it for the D-Backs as Martinez held them to just the one run through six frames. He struck out six. The 34-year-old right-handers ends the day with a 3.70 ERA, 1.17 WHIP, and a 53/16 K/BB ratio across 75 1/3 innings. He’ll take on the Tigers in Detroit on Friday.

Martinez signed a qualifying offer in the off-season, so he will be owed just $7 million over the final two months of the season. The 34-year-old has a 3.89 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 47/15 K/BB ratio in 69 1/3 innings for the Reds this season and could be a solid upgrade for a contender at the end of their rotation.

Martinez thrives on soft contact, but he allowed nine hard-hit balls today, including a homer and two doubles. The loss leaves him 3-6, though he deserves considerably better with his 3.89 ERA. He’ll get the Diamondbacks next.

Martinez carried a shutout bid into the seventh inning before Royals veteran Salvador Perez tagged him for a two-run homer. He managed to wriggle out of the frame with only one additional run crossing the plate courtesy of Nick Loftin’s sacrifice fly, to complete seven frames for the second time this season. He struck out two and didn’t issue a walk. The 34-year-old righty will bring a solid 3.48 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 45/13 K/BB ratio across 64 2/3 innings (11 starts) into a challenging road tilt on Sunday against the Cubs at historic Wrigley Field.

Martinez has five quality starts in a row after failing to reach the threshold in any of his first five starts. Still, he’s been limited to two wins. Even though he has a 3.44 ERA, the Reds are 2-8 in his starts. Martinez will face the Royals next, making him a decent option in mixed leagues.

Martinez did well to scatter the many, many hits the Astros had against him and not let this game get out of hand. It benefits a right-handed pitcher like Martinez who relies so heavily on his slider and sinker to face this Houston lineup that doesn’t have a single left-handed batter and that may have been a key reason he was able to avoid disaster. His next start is scheduled to come at home against the lowly White Sox.

Martinez racked up eight strikeouts on the afternoon and didn’t walk a batter. The lone tally against him came on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Luis Garcia Jr. in the second inning. The 34-year-old right-hander got 13 swings and misses on 86 pitches on the night, registering a CSW of 34 percent. He’ll attempt to further improve upon his 4.19 ERA and 1.24 WHIP when he does battle against the Astros in Houston on Friday night.

Martinez fell behind early when he coughed up a run-scoring double to Nolan Arenado that left fielder Gavin Lux lost in the sun. He managed to keep the Cardinals off the scoreboard over his final five frames of work, which gave Cincinnati’s lineup a chance to rally. He struck out two and also handed out a pair of free passes. He’ll bring a pedestrian 4.68 ERA, 1.35 WHIP and 26/11 K/BB ratio across 32 2/3 innings (six starts) into a home tilt on Saturday against the Nationals.

Martinez was at just 65 pitches through five innings, so he was left in to face the top of the order for a third time with a 3-1 lead in the sixth. He got two outs, but then Eric Wagaman singled. It brought up Agustín Ramírez, who had already reached twice. Terry Francona stuck with Martinez, only to watch him give up an RBI double. Martinez was pulled with a 3-2 lead at that point, and Graham Ashcraft finished the sixth without further trouble. Alas, Ashcraft went on to give up the tying and go-ahead runs in the seventh. Martinez remains 0-3 with a 5.40 ERA. He’ll face the Cardinals next.

This game got off to an inauspicious start when Julio Rodríguez reached on an error by Elly De La Cruz on the first pitch of the game, advanced to second on a wild pitch by Martinez soon thereafter, and later came around to score. Still, Martinez was nowhere close to sharp in this one. He left far too many pitches over the middle of the plate and the Mariners made him pay with plenty of hard contact. They had 11 hard-hit balls in total and Martinez didn’t have a single one-two-three innings. He’s scheduled to face the Marlins in his next start coupled with a game in Coors Field in what looks to be an unfortunate pairing for a two-start week.

Hernandez gets the call to augment Houston’s bullpen depth and will be making his first appearance this season when he gets into a game. The 30-year-old righty made five relief outings last year for the Astros, posting an inflated 7.88 ERA, 1.38 WHIP and 10/1 K/BB ratio across eight innings.
