The 31-year-old slugger jumped all over a first-pitch cutter from Lance McCullers Jr. in the second inning, belting a 336-foot (99.8 mph EV) solo shot that increased the Yankees’ early lead to 4-0. That would be his only hit in the ballgame, finishing the night 1-for-4. On the season, McMahon is slashing a horrifying .151/.286/.264 with two homers, five RBI and a 20/10 K/BB ratio in 63 plate appearances.

McMahon’s first homer of the season came in a big spot in the eighth inning, and with the game tied at two. Stepping in to pinch-hit for Amed Rosario and with a runner on first, McMahon blasted an opposite-field homer to left to put the Yankees up 4-2, putting them in position to take the first game of the weekend series. McMahon has struggled out of the gate this season and entered the game batting .140. Hopefully, this kickstarts a much-needed turnaround for the veteran lefty.

McMahon gets a shot at shortstop for the first time this season with speedster José Caballero drawing his first off day. The 31-year-old has been mired in an extended slump at the dish, hitting .087 (2-for-23) through 10 games.

McMahon has been awful to begin the season, going 2-for-23 with an OPS of just .363. He’ll get a break even with right-hander Aaron Civale on the bump for the A’s, and Amed Rosario will get the start at third while hitting seventh.

McMahon is off to a rough start to the season, going 1-for-14 with seven strikeouts and two walks. McMahon also had a poor season last year, but had spent the offseason working on tweaking his stance and swing mechanics. So far, it has not worked. The Yankees will keep him in the lineup regularly because he plays good defense, but you have to wonder if Jose Caballero plays more third base once Anthony Volpe returns. Amed Rosario will start at third base on Wednesday and hit seventh.

McMahon tweaked his batting stance in the hopes of cutting back on his strikeouts, but he thus far has eight of those and only three hits in 30 plate appearances. As poorly as he performed offensively after arriving from Colorado last summer, McMahon’s job could be in some jeopardy in May if José Caballero is performing well when Anthony Volpe is ready to return.

Last season, McMahon had the fourth-widest stance in baseball and also stood 32 inches away from the inside edge of the plate, which was the fourth-longest distance in the big leagues. McMahon said this had happened to him before, so he knew how to fix it. “A lot of good things happen from being a little bit closer together,” McMahon said. “My hands don’t drop as much, which is a super helpful thing.” Considering McMahon’s whiff rate and strikeout rate were career highs and the worst among qualified Major Leaguers, any improvement would be crucial for him.

The homer off Cristian Javier was McMahon’s third as a Yankee. He’s hitting .243/.341/.393 in 35 games for his new club, compared to .217/.314/.403 in 100 games with the Rockies.

McMahon tied the game of the Yankees with an RBI walk in the first inning and then added a 109 mph single in the ninth inning. The veteran is a strong addition to the Yankees’ lineup and should likely hit around .240-.250 with solid counting stats in a lineup that will continue to produce once Aaron Judge (elbow) returns.

After the Yankees fell behind early in the game, McMahon came through with a big hit in the bottom of the second inning. His two-run double off Zack Wheeler tied the game 2-2. Later in the inning, he came around to score on a Trent Grisham RBI single to make it 4-2. McMahon is hitting just .222 this year, but his lefty power could be a good fit for Yankee Stadium over the rest of the season.

The McMahon era officially begins in the Bronx on Saturday with an interleague clash against the Phillies. The 30-year-old has been a fringe mixed-league option this season, slashing .217/.314/.403 with 16 homers and two steals over 100 games for Colorado. The transition to Yankee Stadium should boost his power output thanks to the short porch in right, but his fantasy appeal still skews toward deeper formats.

The deal, which had been agreed to on Friday afternoon, is now official. The 30-year-old slugger has hit .217/.314/.403 with 16 homers, 35 RBI and a National League-leading 127 strikeouts through his first 401 plate appearances. He’s expected to function as the Yankees’ primary third baseman against right-handed pitching.

Patrick Lyons of Just BB reports that the Yankees will send left-handed pitching prospect Griffin Herring and right-hander Josh Grosz in exchange for McMahon. The 30-year-old has 16 homers in 99 games with the Rockies in 2025, but it’s worth noting he’s been much better in the friendly confines of Coors Field than on the road. He’s a solid defender at third, and playing in the New York lineup gives him an uptick in fantasy value.

New York has a glaring hole at the hot corner and McMahon make a ton of sense as a fallback option if they get outbid in the Suárez sweepstakes. The 30-year-old third baseman holds a .721 OPS with 16 homers though 99 games this season with the Rockies.

McMahon drew a walk to lead off the second inning and scored on a double before taking Erick Fedde deep for a three-run blast in the third to break the game open for the Rockies. The 30-year-old third baseman is up to 16 homers while slashing .219/.315/.406 with 41 runs scored and 35 RBI across 397 plate appearances.

McMahon capped off a four-run uprising in the opening inning with a 436-foot (105.1 mph EV) two-run shot off of Chris Paddack. That would be his only hit on the night, though he also worked a walk. On the season, the 30-year-old slugger is now hitting .213/.310/.384 with 14 long balls and 30 RBI on the season.

McMahon’s long ball was the extent of the damage done against Reds’ starter Chase Burns, but still put the Rockies in position to pull this game out late against Cincinnati’s bullpen. The homer was his 13th of the season in what’s been an otherwise disappointing season for the veteran third baseman.

McMahon had a nice two-week run in early May and another one in mid-June, but he’s been pretty brutal otherwise. He’s 7-for-52 with one extra-base hit and 22 strikeouts in his last 15 games, dropping him back down to .210/.310/.373 overall, and he’s second in the majors with 117 strikeouts on the season.

McMahon’s home run was his 10th of the year. He hit a solo shot off Grant Holmes in the seventh inning to put the Rockies ahead 2-1. McMahon is hitting just .221 on the year, but his 10 home runs and excellent defense at third base could make him attractive to a contending team as the trade deadline approaches.

McMahon has been an utter disaster with men on base this season — he entered the night with 19 RBI in 268 plate appearances and seven of his eight homers had been solo shots — so it was nice to see him knock in runners twice tonight. It’s just his third multi-RBI game of the year, and it’s his first with three RBI since July 30 of last year. Contrast that with fellow NL West third baseman Eugenio Suárez, who has nine three-RBI games this season and actually delivered three in a row last month.

McMahon took Kyle Harrison deep for a solo homer in the fourth inning and later drew a walk in the sixth before he was caught stealing second. McMahon would reach once more in the eighth on a walk and scored on a triple by Brenton Doyle. The 30-year-old third baseman is a likely trade candidate for the Rockies as we get deeper into the season. McMahon is hitting .215/.328/.377 with eight homers, 26 runs, and 19 RBI over 262 plate appearances.

McMahon’s homer comes in a blowout, but for those curious, it was a big one at the time as it tied the game at a run a piece. The Mets would scored the next seven runs because of course they did. McMahon has seven homers over the first 62 games of 2025, and he’s driven in just 18 runs. The last figure obviously isn’t entirely his fault.

McMahon’s double in the sixth inning put the Mets’ backs up against the wall for a moment before Huascar Brazobán worked out of trouble and ended the threat. They wouldn’t challenge again, which should be expected. While his April was a total disaster at the plate, he has a strong .884 OPS through May and looks much more like the player he’s always been.

Down 12-1 after the top of the sixth inning, McMahon helped lead the Rockies on a valiant comeback effort with a home run and then two more hits late in the middle of rallies. He had three batted balls hit harder than 100 mph and seems to be pulling himself out of the doldrums with three multi-hit games in his last four starts.

McMahon gave the Rockies a 2-0 lead with a two-run blast in the first frame. The veteran infielder has struggled mightily for the majority of 2025, but a five-reach game does help him improve his OPS to .667. McMahon is by no means a start, but he’s too good of a player — and plays in too good of a park — to struggle this badly for much longer.

McMahon crushed a 400-foot (105.6 mph EV) solo shot off of Justin Verlander in the seventh inning, cutting the Rockies’ deficit to one run at 3-2 and setting the stage for the comeback. He finished the evening 1-for-3 plus a walk and he also swiped his first base of the season. The 30-year-old slugger is off to a very slow start to the 2025 season, slashing an anemic .152/.280/.267 with three homers and just five RBI.

They probably won’t do it, but it seems like time for the Rockies to bench McMahon for a few days. He’s batting just .147, and he tops the majors with his 43 strikeouts. The Rockies, though, keep batting him third every day.

McMahon will be out of the lineup for the first time in 2025. The 30-year-old has scuffled mightily with a .528 OPS to begin the campaign, and the Rockies will give him a chance to reset in the series finale against Cincinnati. McMahon has had ups and downs throughout his career, and he’s a great bounceback candidate in the coming weeks.

McMahon had a seven-game hitting streak going when he arrived in San Diego, but he just went 0-for-11 versus the Padres, leaving him at .236/.295/.382 through 15 games. He’s fanned in 20 of his 61 plate appearances. One can’t help but think about what kind of return the Rockies might have gotten for him last summer and how much less trade value he has now.
