Miller was hoping to avoid surgery, but it wasn’t meant to be. This will most likely cost the 35-year-old all of 2026. Miller, who had a 2.74 ERA in 46 innings for the Diamondbacks and Brewers this year, will become a free agent after the World Series.

Miller will undergo an operating at some point, but the hope is that if there’s no tear that the right-hander will be able to return at some point in 2026. The 34-year-old is a free agent at the end of the year, so he’ll be looking at an incentive-laden deal if he signs prior to the 2025 campaign that likely has a team option for 2026.

Miller’s season is over. The right-hander had one of his best seasons on the bump with the D-backs and Brew Crew, but the sprain he suffered against the Phillies will keep him from pitching in the postseason. The 34-year-old will likely be of interest on the free-agent market this spring, but just how much interest will depend on his recovery plan.

Brewers manager Pat Murphy told reporters Miller felt a pop in his elbow on his final pitch before exiting the contest with a trainer. The 34-year-old previously spent time on the injured list back in early July with a forearm strain. There should be a definitive update on his status at some point in the coming days, but it certainly sounds like Miller is headed to the injured list.

Miller came on to face his former squad with two men in scoring position and two outs in a tied game in the eighth inning. He needed just three pitches to strike out Ketel Marte to end that threat. He then returned for the ninth inning and despite allowing a leadoff single to Corbin Carroll and an intentional walk to Gabriel Moreno, he was able to keep the Diamondbacks off the board and became the beneficiary when the Brewers walked it off. He now holds a 2.40 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and a 54/14 K/BB ratio over 45 innings on the season while securing four victories and 10 saves.

Miller was acquired by the Brewers at the deadline from the Diamondbacks, and now will have chance to make his debut. He was closing for Arizona, but he’ll likely begin his stint with the Brew Crew as a set-up option.

Miller threw 10 of his 17 pitches for strikes, showcased all three of his pitches, and hit 96 mph on the radar gun with his fastball. After some fear that his season was over, this was quite a performance. He may make another appearance or two before joining the Brewers’ collection of late-inning relievers. It would seem unlikely that he takes the closer job from Trevor Megill though.

Miller was an unheralded pickup at the trade deadline for Milwaukee, but he’s going to be pretty impactful in a high-leverage role in short order. The 34-year-old veteran reliever will need a couple outings to get back up to speed, but he should be ready to pitch for the Brewers by mid-August.

Miller is still stationed on the 15-day injured list, but that didn’t stop the Brewers from trying to add to their bullpen. The 34-year-old hurler had posted a brilliant 1.98 ERA, 0.96 WHIP and a 40/11 K/BB ratio over 36 1/3 innings before being shelved with a strained forearm. Once healthy, he’s likely to work in a setup capacity ahead of closer Trevor Megill.

No word yet on the return. Miller is currently on the injured list with a strained forearm, but he has begun throwing and could return soon. He will work in high-leverage innings for the Brewers, likely as part of the bridge to Trevor Megill. Jordan Montgomery is out for the season after undergoing Tommy John surgery and is a free agent at the end of this season, so this feels like a salary dump that may have helped get a better return. We will have to see.

Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo told reporters Miller got through 16 pitches before his back tightened up on him. The good news is that his arm felt fine. He’ll be re-evaluated in the coming days. The 34-year-old veteran stopper figures to be ready to kick off a rehab assignment at some point in early August.

Miller is making lightning-quick progress in his recovery from a right forearm strain and figures to make it back to Arizona at some point in August. The 34-year-old veteran stopper is likely to need a couple rehab outings before returning to anchor the Diamondbacks’ bullpen again.

It’s a bit unclear how close Miller is to making it back to Arizona’s bullpen, but it’s an encouraging development that he’s already progressed to throwing bullpen sessions. He’ll need to face hitters in a live batting practice session before he’s cleared to kick off a rehab assignment. There’s a decent chance he’s back at some point in August.

That’s definitely encouraging to hear, as the last update the D’Backs manager gave to reporters was that Miller was heading to see Dr. Keith Meister for a second opinion. Miller’s not out of the woods just yet, but it sounds like the team is optimistic that the 34-year-old hurler could make it back to help out their bullpen at some point in the coming weeks.

A second opinion doesn’t always mean impending doom and another Tommy John surgery, but more times than not that is the eventual outcome. Right now, the 34-year-old hurler is shelved with a right forearm strain, but we’ll see if the diagnosis shifts after he gets his second opinion. The Diamondbacks should have an update on his status in the coming days.

Not good. Miller has taken over as Arizona’s primary closer since early May following injuries to A.J. Puk and Justin Martinez. The scary part here is that forearm issues are often a precursor to more alarming elbow concerns. It’s unclear where Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo will turn with Miller on the shelf, but Kevin Ginkel and Jalen Beeks have some closing experience. The wild cards here would be John Curtiss and Kyle Backhus.

The run is unearned because it came in the 10th inning and it was the “zombie” runner who crossed the plate. It came on a sac fly from Andrew Bailey, and he didn’t allow a hit. It’s a loss for Miller — the third of the season — but at least it’s not a blown save and it didn’t hurt his ERA at all. We always look for positives. Miller has provided a good number of them thus far in 2025 to the surprise of most.

Miller got the final out in the eighth to clean up a jam, and then breezed through the ninth to pick up his 10th save of the season. It’s a nice rebound from his struggles against the Marlins on Saturday, and it lowers his ERA to a very solid 2.10. Assuming he’s not dealt at the deadline, it’s probably safe to say that Miller is going to remain the closer for the D-backs for the foreseeable future.

Dane Myers swiped a run against Miller with a single and two stolen bases before scoring on a sac fly. Miller struck out the other two batters he faced. This is just the second time he’s been scored upon this month, and he’s still the easy favorite for saves in the Arizona pen.

The 34-year-old right-hander didn’t mess around in this one, getting Lenyn Sosa, Luis Robert Jr. and Edgar Quero each on fly balls to center field, needing just 12 pitches (eight strikes) to get the job done. Miller has now successfully converted nine of his first 13 save chances on the season while registering a 1.97 ERA and 0.53 WHIP across 32 innings of work.

Miller has been outstanding as the Diamondbacks’ stopper, and the scoreless outing puts his ERA at 2.03. The three strikeouts also push his K/BB ratio to 35/11, and he’s now saved eight games for Arizona. There’s a lot to like here, even if he maybe ranks a smidgen below the elite relief options.

The 34-year-old right-hander came on with a one-run lead to protect and started the inning off fine by getting Davis Schneider on a called third strike. He then got ahead of Bo Bichette 1-2 before throwing a splitter that was crushed for a game-tying solo shot. Addison Barger then followed by launching a 2-2 splitter into the seats that sent the Rogers Centre faithful into a frenzy. The Diamondbacks’ bullpen remains a complete mess and a tough place to mine for saves in fantasy leagues.

With Justin Martínez back on the injured list, Miller figures to get most of the save chances in Arizona. Maybe Kevin Ginkel could overtake him at some point, but he definitely has a lot of work to do first.

Miller worked against his former organization — he was traded from Arizona to Atlanta, in face — and got the job done again. He did issue a walk, but he kept the runner from advancing while procuring his sixth save and lowering his ERA to 1.75. Miller had very little closing experience prior to 2025, but that hasn’t prevented him from being successful in the role whatsoever this spring.

The 34-year-old right-hander took over with the Diamondbacks clinging to a 1-0 lead in the ninth inning. After striking out Jordan Beck to start the inning, he allowed a single to Kyle Farmer and a double to Hunter Goodman that put the winning run in scoring position and the tying run just 90 feet away. He then intentionally walked Ryan McMahon to load the bases. Miller battled back though, getting Brenton Doyle on a pop out to shortstop and Michael Toglia on a liner to short to end it. He’ll continue to stay in the mix for save chances until Justin Martinez returns.

The Diamondbacks took a four-run lead in the seventh inning and it was Kevin Ginkel and Shelby Miller tasked with closing out the game in the eighth and ninth innings. Miller took the ninth in the non-save situation with the team up by four runs and worked around a hit and a walk, striking out one in the scoreless frame. The usage again suggests Miller has the leg up for save chances with Justin Martinez on the injured list.

Miller came into the day having not allowed a single run all season. He started the inning with a two-run lead and struck out Trea Turner and Bryce Harper to open the frame. Kyle Schwarber then clobbered a hanging splitter for a solo home run. Miller then allowed back-to-back singles to Nick Castellanos and JT Realmuto before Alec Bohm flared a bloop into center field to drive in the game-tying run. It was Miller’s first mediocre outing of the year, and still wasn’t really an awful performance. He remains the favorite for saves in Arizona with Justin Martinez out, but Kevin Ginkel will likely mix in for some opportunities as well.
