Outman victimized Phillies’ southpaw Ranger Suarez for his 436-foot blast in the fifth inning — extending the Twins’ early lead to 5-0. It has been a very rough season overall for Outman, as he’s slashing a meager .138/.222/.331 with six long balls and 11 RBI in 144 plate appearances.

Outman did have two hard-hit balls in the nightcap, but he struck out in his other four at-bats today. He’s hit .167/.244/.359 with 36 strikeouts in 86 plate appearances since joining the Twins. It wasn’t a bad idea for the team to take a flier on him at the trade deadline, but he’s not making much of an argument for remaining on the roster this winter.

Outman had two homers in 44 plate appearances for the Dodgers earlier this season, but this was his first in 64 plate appearances since joining the Twins. He’s hitting .143/.222/.296 overall, so he badly needs a strong finish if he hopes to put himself into Minnesota’s plans for 2026.

Outman returns to the majors with Alan Roden hitting the injured list with a thumb sprain. The 28-year-old center fielder is just two seasons removed from an impressive 23-homer, 16-steal rookie campaign with the Dodgers, but persistent contact issues have eliminated any chance of him making a sustained impact at the big-league level.

The trade is now official. Outman feels like a classic change of scenery candidate as he should get an extended opportunity at the highest level with Minnesota pivoting into a mini-rebuild. The 28-year-old outfielder possesses an interesting power/speed combo skillset, but he need to cut back on the strikeouts if he’s going to be a viable everyday player. It was only two years ago that he cobbled together a 23-homer, 16-steal rookie campaign.

Outman gets the call to replace an injured Enrique Hernández (elbow) on the Dodgers’ active roster prior to Monday’s series opener against the Brewers. The 28-year-old center fielder has hit .125 (3-for-24) with two homers in nine games this season at the major-league level.

Outman was the logical corresponding move for the Dodgers to get veteran slugger Teoscar Hernández back on the active roster after hitting .125/.222/.375 with two homers and four RBI during a brief nine-game stint in the majors. The 28-year-old center fielder also struck out in 13 of his 27 plate appearances during that span. He’ll head back to the minors to continue functioning as emergency outfield depth.

Fantasy managers were probably hoping to see top prospect Dalton Rushing get his first shot in the majors, but the Dodgers are going to give Outman another crack with star Teoscar Hernández facing a multi-week absence with a left groin strain. The 27-year-old’s power/speed combo potential makes him interesting for fantasy purposes, but he’s struck out nearly 33 percent of the time in 208 games in the majors dating back to 2022, which puts a lid on his realistic ceiling.

He’ll definitely be the choice if Teoscar Hernández requires an IL stint. If not, he might go right back to Oklahoma City. Outman has hit .254/.322/.508 with eight homers in the PCL this season, though that comes with 53 strikeouts in 146 plate appearances.
