Brandon Pfaadt was tagged for eight runs — seven earned — in four-plus innings by the Padres on Sunday.

Pfaadt recovered from a five-run first to hold the Padres to one run over the next three innings, but he was pulled after a HBP and an error to open the fifth, and both runners came around to score. Pfaadt ends the year 13-9 with a 5.25 ERA. His strikeout rate dipped from 24 percent last year to 19 percent this season. The hope going into next year is that he further develops the cutter he added back in June and has used effectively but inconsistently since. Still, he doesn’t seem like much of a sleeper at this point.

Brandon Pfaadt allowed three runs with four strikeouts over six innings in a no-decision against the Dodgers on Tuesday.

Pfaadt surrendered a leadoff homer to Teoscar Hernández in the second inning. After three scoreless frames, Hernández brought two more runs home on Pfaadt with a triple in the sixth. Pfaadt’s day would be done after six frames. He struck out four. The 26-year-old right-hander is in line to take a 5.00 ERA, 1.33 WHIP, and a 142/37 K/BB ratio over 172 2/3 innings into the final game of the regular season against the Padres in San Diego on Sunday.

Brandon Pfaadt allowed just one hit over nine scoreless innings against the Giants on Wednesday.

If only the Diamondbacks could have scored for him, Pfaadt would have been credited with his first complete game, his first shutout and even a “Maddux” for getting 27 outs on 97 pitches. The one hit he allowed was a Drew Gilbert single in the sixth. A double play followed immediately. In the ninth, he saw Gilbert reach on a Ketel Marte error with one out and then coaxed a second double play ball out of Heliot Ramos. Pfaadt struck out seven and walked one. 10 of the 20 balls in play against him were hit hard, including a 404-foot fly to center from Bryce Eldridge that would have been a homer in 12 ballparks. Oddly enough, though, the two hardest-hit balls off him were the double plays from Ramos. Pfaadt should make his next start Tuesday against the Dodgers.

Mets selected the contract of RHP Brandon Sproat from Triple-A Syracuse.

Sproat will make his highly-anticipated major-league debut on Sunday afternoon against the Reds. The 24-year-old top pitching prospect offers some immediate fantasy appeal based on his recent success at the Triple-A level, which includes a 30 percent strikeout rate over nine starts since July 4. However, it’s a tough matchup right out of the gate at hitter-friendly Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati. There’s some risk here, but Sproat is worthy of a speculative roster spot in most fantasy formats.

Brandon Pfaadt was outstanding in Saturday night’s victory over the Red Sox, racking up seven strikeouts over six innings of one-run baseball.

Pfaadt scattered six hits on the night and didn’t walk a batter. The only blemish on his day came on an RBI single off the bat of Masataka Yoshida in the third inning. The 26-year-old right-hander got 13 whiffs on 96 pitches on the night, posting a strong CSW of 35 percent. Now 13-8 on the season, he’ll look to replicate this fine performance as he carries a 5.18 ERA, 1.38 WHIP and 129/33 K/BB ratio (153 innings) into Friday’s tilt against the Twins in Minneapolis.

The Mets will call up Brandon Sproat to start Saturday’s game, according to Metsmerized’s Mike Mayer.

He’ll presumably be taking Kodai Senga’s spot in the rotation. The 25-year-old Sproat is 8-6 with a 4.24 ERA and a 113/53 K/BB in 121 innings for Triple-A Syracuse, though he’d been much better than that lately; he has a 2.54 ERA and a 70/21 K/BB in 59 innings over his last 11 starts. He’s not a bad roll of the dice in mixed leagues, though a road start in Cincinnati isn’t a great matchup for his first outing.

SNY’s Andy Martino reports that the Mets are considering calling up pitching prospect Brandon Sproat from Triple-A Syracuse

This fits with the Mets recent aggressive promotions of fellow pitching prospects Nolan McLean and Jonah Tong, who have both looked good in their big league innings. With reports that the Mets are planning to send Kodai Senga to the minor leagues, and the continued struggles of Sean Manaea, the Mets could use a little jolt of energy in their rotation. After struggling to start the season, Sproat has a 3.13 ERA and nearly 26 percent strikeout rate in his past 14 starts. He likely doesn’t have Tong and McLean’s upside and would be limited to deeper fantasy leagues.

Brandon Pfaadt struggled again in a no-decision against the Dodgers on Sunday afternoon, allowing four runs on eight hits across 4 1/3 innings of work.

Pfaadt struck out five batters on the day while issuing only one base on balls. The Dodgers jumped on him for a pair of runs in the opening inning, then added on single runs in the fourth and fifth before he mercifully exited. The 26-year-old right-hander got 11 swings and misses on 94 pitches on the day, posting a CSW of 26 percent. He’ll try to turn things around as he brings a disappointing 5.33 ERA, 1.39 WHIP and a 122/33 K/BB ratio (147 innings) into Saturday’s matchup against the Red Sox.

Mets RHP prospect Brandon Sproat recorded nine strikeouts over seven scoreless innings on Saturday for Triple-A Syracuse.

Just what the Mets need: another elite pitching prospect pushing for a big-league rotation spot. Sproat struggled a bit out of the bullpen in his previous outing, but managed to bounce back with one of his strongest starts of the season, generating 14 swinging strikes and needing just 91 pitches (58 strikes) to complete seven shutout frames. The 24-year-old top prospect has recorded a stellar 1.79 ERA and 66/19 K/BB ratio across 55 1/3 innings over his last 10 starts. There isn’t really room for him in New York’s overcrowded six-man rotation with fellow top prospects Nolan McLean and Jonah Tong excelling, but he could easily force his way to the majors at some point in September.

Brandon Pfaadt was pummeled for six runs on eight hits in just 2 2/3 innings in a no-decision against the Brewers on Tuesday evening in Milwaukee.

Pfaadt struck out four batters in the abbreviated outing and issued one free pass. The Brewers pushed one run across against him in the opening inning then piled on with five more while chasing him in the third, including a two-run bomb off the bat of William Contreras. The only reason he didn’t suffer a loss was because the Diamondbacks rallied to tie the game in the eighth inning to take him off the hook. The 26-year-old hurler will carry an unappealing 5.24 ERA, 1.37 WHIP and a 117/32 K/BB ratio (142 2/3 innings) into a brutal matchup against the Dodgers in Los Angeles on Sunday.

Mets top prospect Brandon Sproat will pitch in relief on Sunday for Triple-A Syracuse.

With Nolan McLean excelling in the big leagues and fellow top prospect Jonah Tong waiting in the winds, Sproat’s path to New York over the final five weeks will likely be as a versatile relief weapon. The 24-year-old top pitching prospect still projects as a starter long-term, but he’s going to get some experience working in relief at Triple-A and could find himself up with the Mets once rosters expand in early September. It’s a classy problem to have as an organization that you need to shift an upper-echelon prospect to a relief role to find room for him at the highest level.

Brandon Pfaadt worked seven innings and allowed two runs Wednesday in a no-decision against the Guardians.

A strong effort from Pfaadt went for naught, but that’s been a rarity this season for a guy who is 12-8 in spite of a 4.95 ERA. Pfaadt allowed five hits, walked one and struck out five. His 28 changeups produced five whiffs and seven balls in play, none of which were hit harder than 87 mph. Pfaadt’s next start will be his first of the year against the Brewers.

Brandon Sproat surrendered six runs — five earned — in 3 1/3 innings for Triple-A Syracuse on Wednesday.

Nolan McLean apparently just edged out Sproat to become the Mets’ new fifth starter this weekend, and Sproat responded with his worst outing in a couple of months. He entered last night with a 1.15 ERA in his previous seven starts. In fact, he’d given up six runs — five earned — over 39 innings in those games.

Brandon Pfaadt picked up his 12th victory of the season on Sunday afternoon, limiting the Rockies to three runs on 11 hits over his five frames.

Pfaadt struck out just two batters on the day and didn’t allow a free pass. The Rockies scored two runs against him in the second inning on a two-run double by Adael Amador and they tacked on another on an RBI knock by Kyle Karros in the third. Pfaadt settled in after that though and finished his day with two scoreless innings. He got five whiffs on 77 pitches in the ballgame, posting an underwhelming CSW of only 17 percent. Now 12-7 on the season, he’ll carry a 5.03 ERA, 1.35 WHIP and a 104/28 K/BB ratio (127 innings) into a rematch against the Rockies in Colorado on Friday night.

Brandon Pfaadt allowed two runs over 5 2/3 innings Monday to beat the Diamondbacks for his 11th win.

11 wins with a 5.02 ERA. Chris Bassitt has the highest ERA of the other 10 pitchers with 11 wins, and he’s at 4.12 ERA for a first-place team. The D-backs, on the other hand, are 54-59. Pfaadt’s new cutter produced a bunch of soft contact tonight, helping to make up for the fact that his velocity was down a bit. He’s somewhat interesting because of the new weapon, but if his velocity is going to keep trending downward for a team that is also obviously trending downward, he’s probably not a good bet going forward. That said, he’s a definite play with his next start set to come Sunday at home against the Rockies.

Brandon Pfaadt was knocked around in Tuesday night’s loss to the Tigers, giving up seven runs on 11 hits over his 4 2/3 innings of work.

The 26-year-old right-hander struck out three batters on the evening and didn’t walk a batter. He cruised through the first three innings unscathed until Dillon Dingler smacked a two-run single in the fourth inning. The wheels then fell off for him in the fifth as Gleyber Torres, Riley Greene and Zach McKinstry each took him deep in a five-run uprising. Pfaadt got nine whiffs on 90 pitches on the evening, posting a CSW of 26 percent. Pfaadt’s latest solid outing featured 18 uses of his new cutter, which produced no hits, three outs on contact and 10 additional strikes. The weapon has turned him back into a mixed-league option, though since the D-backs have a poor bullpen and are about to weaken their offense and probably their defense, he’s still not a particularly strong bet. Mets RHP prospect Brandon Sproat recorded nine strikeouts and allowed one run — zero earned — over five innings on Saturday for Triple-A Syracuse.

After a rocky couple months at the outset of the year, Sproat is making some serious noise and knocking on the door to the majors again. The 24-year-old pitching prospect has reeled off a staggering 24 consecutive frames without allowing an earned run after Saturday’s latest dominant performance. The central question for fantasy purposes revolves around whether his recent improvements in the command department will carry over once he reaches the big leagues. There isn’t exactly a spot for him in New York’s crowded rotation mix right now, but things can always change due to injury or ineffectiveness. Strikeout machines Jonah Tong and Nolan McLean have passed him from a long-term intrigue standpoint, but Sproat seems like a strong bet to get to New York before them, especially if he keeps pitching this well.

Brandon Pfaadt struck out six over seven scoreless frames while being credited with a win in a 7-3 victory over the Cardinals on Friday.

Pfaadt scattered four hits without issuing a walk. He was able to generate 10 swings-and-misses over 91 pitches, with 10 of them landing for strikes. This makes back-to-back outings where Pfaadt has worked at least seven innings, and he’s given up just two runs over his last 15 frames. He’s a very inconsistent pitcher, but when Pfaadt is at his best, he looks the part. His next chance to do so comes against the Astros.

Pfaadt didn’t have his usual swing-and-miss stuff Wednesday, but it might have been a good thing. Brandon Pfaadt didn’t get a hitter out while allowing eight runs in the Nationals’ 11-7 win over the Diamondbacks on Saturday.

Oh dear. Pfaadt allowed six hits and hit two batters in one of the worst starts — if not the worst — we’ll see from a hurler in 2025. The 26-year-old right-hander had been shaky in May with a 5.40 ERA coming into Saturday’s start, but shaky doesn’t even begin to cover it tonight. His ERA ballooned from 3.90 to 5.05 in the start, and it’s worth noting that the Nationals would score three more runs in the first before the D-Backs came up to bat. Pfaadt can’t possibly be this bad when he faces Atlanta on Thursday.
