Nothing official from a timeline standpoint but Rodgers is facing an extended absence. The 29-year-old has undergone multiple shoulder surgeries in his career and the odds of him returning as a big-league regular in the future are starting to fade.

It sounds like it might be another lost season for the 29-year-old Rodgers. “Most likely he’s going to end up in surgery,” Red Sox manager Alex Cora said. “What type of surgery? I don’t know. We’ll wait and see what he has to say but that’s probably what’s going to happen.”

“It doesn’t look great,” Cora added ominously. It sounds like surgery is a potential outcome for Rodgers, who is evaluating his options after undergoing both an MRI and CT scan earlier this week. The 29-year-old suffered the shoulder injury earlier this week and is likely facing an extended absence, even if he avoids going under the knife. He’s undergone labrum surgery on both shoulders previously in his career. He was in Red Sox camp as a non-roster invitee battling for a bench role.

“We don’t know what’s going on, so we’ll have more in the upcoming days,” manager Alex Cora said. Rodgers had looked to be a candidate to open the year on the big league roster if Romy Gonzalez’s shoulder injury proved too difficult to overcome. If the injury is serious, it will likely push Andruw Monasterio into a better chance to make the team in a bench role.

Rodgers is dealing with shoulder pain after he landed awkwardly after trying to make a diving catch and had to be removed from the game. That’s particularly troublesome considering Rodgers has had major surgery on both shoulders in the past. With Romy Gonzalez (shoulder) unlikely to make the Opening Day roster, Rodgers was battling for a bench spot. Any long-term injury could severely hamper those chances.

Worth a flier. The Astros had Rodgers try swinging harder last year, and it did lead to improved exit velocity but also a lot more strikeouts in the 43 games in which he was healthy. Whether things might have gotten better is hard to say, since injuries wiped out the final 3 1/2 months of the season for him. He’s pretty obviously a weaker bet than Romy Gonzalez as a right-handed second base option at this point, but perhaps there’s still some potential to be tapped into after he spent his first nine years as a pro in baseball’s most backwards organization.

Just a disastrous few months for Rodgers, who went on the IL with an oblique strain in mid-June and then suffered a concussion and a broken nose in his first rehab game on July 18. He started another rehab assignment 10 days ago, but it didn’t take, and one imagines he’s likely out for the season at this point. He’ll probably have to settle for a minor league deal as a free agent this winter.

The procedural move frees up a spot on Houston’s 40-man roster. Rodgers suffered a concussion in additional to a nasal fracture earlier this weekend during a minor league rehab game for Triple-A Sugar Land. There is no timetable for his return at the moment.

Rodgers is rehabbing from a left oblique strain, and this obviously counts as a setback. It occurred when ran headfirst into the knee of shortstop Edwin Diaz. The 28-year-old will assuredly be sitting until he passes the concussion protocol, and isn’t likely to be rejoining the Astros in the coming days.

Rodgers victimized Guardians’ left-hander Logan Allen for a 396-foot (104.4 mph EV) solo shot in the sixth inning that increased the Astros’ lead to 4-1. He also drew a walk in the contest. The 28-year-old infielder has really struggled in his limited action for the Astros this season, slashing .194/.270/.291 with two homers and 11 RBI in 115 plate appearances.

Rodgers got the Astros on the board on Tuesday night as he smacked a 369-foot (101.9 mph EV) opposite-field three-run shot off of Chad Patrick in the seventh inning that pulled the Astros to within one run at 4-3. He also struck out twice in the ballgame, finishing the night 1-for-4. On the season, the 28-year-old infielder is hitting an underwhelming .235/.312/.324 with one home run and 10 RBI.

Rodgers had been limited to one pinch-hitting appearance in five games by left hip soreness. He’s in a little 0-for-12 slump now, dropping his OPS from .824 to .595, so he might be in line for less time at second base.

Rodgers is absent from Houston’s lineup card for the fifth straight game due to an ongoing left hip issue. There’s been no indication that he’s headed to the injured list, but it can’t be ruled out. It’ll be Mauricio Dubón at the keystone on Tuesday evening for the fourth time in the last five contests.

Mauricio Dubón will handle second base during Monday’s series opener against the Cardinals with Rodgers missing his fourth consecutive game with left hip soreness. There’s no indication he’ll require a trip to the injured list, so fantasy managers should consider him day-to-day for now.

Rodgers will sit out his third straight contest on Sunday afternoon as he deals with an ongoing hip issue. It’ll be Mauricio Dubón taking a turn at the keystone in his absence. It doesn’t sound like he’s in danger of requiring a trip to the injured list, but fantasy managers should continue to monitor his status.

Astros manager Joe Espada divulged to reporters that Rodgers has been dealing with the issue for the past few days, but was able to field ground balls prior to Saturday’s contest. It’ll be Jose Altuve covering the keystone on Saturday evening with Rodgers missing his second straight contest. Fantasy managers should consider him day-to-day for now.

This doesn’t bode well. It’s the first time all year the Astros have faced a lefty, and it’s surprising not to see Rogers in there, given that he’s a lifetime .296/.357/.482 hitter against southpaws (.253/.300/.378 versus right-handers). That’s Coors-aided, of course, but if you’re going to start him nine times in 13 games against righties, it’d make particular sense to have him in there versus a lefty.
