Reynolds drew a walk in the first inning, then took Luis Morales deep for a solo homer to lead off the third. It was the 16th home run of the season for the 30-year-old outfielder. It’ll be his lowest power output since the abbreviated 2020 season. Reynolds has had a disappointing season by his standards, hitting .243/.315/.403 with 63 runs scored and 73 RBI across 626 plate appearances.

After a good month of August, Reynolds has started slow in September, hitting just .200 in 14 games with one home run and 17 strikeouts. He’ll take a break with Nick Yorke moving from second base to right field, Nick Gonzales playing second base, and Cam Devanney in the lineup at third base.

Reynolds’ first hit tonight was a 113.5-mph liner off Blake Snell, making it the hardest-hit ball of his career. His previous high was 113.2 mph in 2022. He had topped out at 112.3 mph this year.

Reynolds opened the scoring in the ballgame with an RBI double off of Andre Pallante in the top half of the first inning. He then scored on a two-run knock off the bat of Andrew McCutchen. The 30-year-old outfielder also doubled in the second inning and scored on a ground out by Oneil Cruz. With his two-hit attack, he’s now hitting .247/.306/.414 with 14 homers, 66 RBI and three stolen bases over his 539 plate appearances on the year.

Reynolds put the Pirates ahead with a two-run home run in the third inning. It was a 432-foot shot that left the bat at 110.8 mph. It was Reynolds’ 14th home run of the season to go along with 65 RBI. After a rough start to the season, Reynolds has turned it on in the second half and is back to being the player we’re used to seeing in the middle of the Pittsburgh lineup.

Reynolds also singled, but it was his homers against Shelby Miller in the fifth and Nick Mears in the six that plated the runs. It’s his first two-homer game of the year and eighth of his career. It’s also the first time this season that he’s knocked in five runs. He’s batting .367/.426/.673 in 13 games this month, raising his OPS from .662 to .709.

Reynolds was the hero for the Pirates here with a two-run, two-out triple in the eighth inning to take them from down one to up one. He scored their first run of the game too, after his double in the fourth was followed by another double from Oneil Cruz. This sign of life was especially nice to see as Reynolds has been stuck in by far the worst season of his career with just a .689 OPS through 110 games played.

Reynolds opened the scoring with a 391-foot (106.5 mph EV) solo shot off of Brady Singer in the home half of the first inning. That would be all the run support that Paul Skenes and company would need in this one. The 30-year-old outfielder also drew a walk and singled in the contest. On the season, he’s now slashing .239/.298/.382 with 11 long balls, 54 RBI and three stolen bases.

This game was never in doubt as the Pirates jumped out to an early 4-0 lead and never looked back. Reynolds put the icing on the cake with a three-run home run in the sixth inning and has been scalding hot of late. One of the biggest disappointments through the first half of the season, he may be quickly righting the ship with 10 hits – including four doubles and this home run – in his last five games. He’s approaching a .700 OPS for the first time all season and could have a big second half ahead of him.

Reynolds is back in right field and batting third for Saturday afternoon’s showdown against the Rangers at PNC Park following a three-game stint away from the club on paternity leave.

Technically, Reynolds is already out on paternity leave after making an early exit from Tuesday’s game against the Tigers after his wife went into labor with their third child. The 30-year-old outfielder will be away from the club for a couple days with Billy Cook coming up from Triple-A to take his spot on Pittsburgh’s roster.

The positive news is that Reynolds’ departure isn’t injury-related. The 30-year-old outfielder will likely wind up being placed on the paternity list to spend a couple days away from the club to be with his wife as they welcome their third child.

The Pirates are undefeated since the Steelers signed Aaron Rodgers over the weekend. Just saying. Reynolds sliced a tie-breaking triple into the right-center field gap with the bases loaded against Marlins starter Eury Pérez in the third inning. The 30-year-old outfielder’s go-ahead knock opened the floodgates to an eventual lopsided win as Pittsburgh scored 10 runs on 15 hits. He’s started to really heat up in recent weeks, batting .333 (19-for-57) with two homers and 14 RBI over his last 15 games.

Hayes is still owed $36 million over four more seasons, while Reynolds is owed $76 million over five more years. Neither contract is too pricey for a contender to take on. Even though Hayes hasn’t broken out like many people expected, he makes only $7 million per season and still plays strong defense at third base. That could entice a team like the Yankees, who could shift Jazz Chisholm back to second base. Similarly, $15 million per year for Reynolds is not a steep price to pay, especially since the 30-year-old has started to turn it around of late. Given their years of control remaining, some team would need to part with some prospects of note to land either player.

Reynolds is going to get some extra rest during Sunday’s series finale as he deals with some minor physical issues. The 30-year-old got off to an abysmal start this season at the plate, but he’s hitting .280 (7-for-25) with five RBI over his last seven games. It’ll be rookie Alexander Canario in right field in his absence.

Reynolds was able to give the Pirates a 2-0 lead in the first inning with his fifth homer of the season. It’s the second roundtripper in the month of May, and helped break an 0-for-8 fun over his previous two games. Expect to see Reynolds greatly improve his .231/.296/.371 slash over the summer months.

Reynolds got the Pirates on the board with his fourth homer of the season in the first inning. He drove in his second run of the contest on a fielder’s choice. Reynolds has struggled for the majority of 2025, as his OPS still sits at a disappointing .673 even after the home run.

Reynolds is scorching at the dish after a slow start, collecting three more hits on Tuesday against the Angels for his third three-hit game in his last four. After knocking two singles and scoring twice, he delivered his biggest hit in the ninth, driving in two runs to extend the Pirates’ lead. The 30-year-old outfielder is slashing .263/.330/.400 with three homers and 12 RBI across 106 plate appearances.

All three of his hits were singles, but we’ll take it. Reynolds picked up seven hits in the three-game series against the Guardians and is now hitting .244/.310/.389 on the season. The 30-year-old has been one of the most consistent hitters in baseball over the last three seasons, and we see no reason to doubt that he will finish the year hitting around .265-.270 with 25 home runs while hitting second in a mediocre Pirates lineup.

And then he undid most of that good by getting thrown out advancing to third base with the Pirates down three runs in the ninth. To be fair, Steven Kwan made a great play and throw to get him, but it was a situation in which he had to know for sure that he’d be safe in order to go. Reynolds upped his offensive line to .222/.297/.383 on the night. He also played right field for a second straight game after being limited to DH duties for a couple of weeks due to shoulder issues.

Reynolds is coming off a nice week, but he’s batting .211/.269/.352 with a whopping 25 strikeouts through 17 games while being limited to DH duties by triceps soreness. He’s fanned 22% of the time over the course of his career, but he’s at 32% right now. It’s too bad the Pirates didn’t just shut him down in the first place, though he is supposed to be getting healthier now.
