The 30-year-old slugger had been shelved since July 30 due to back spasms. He looked good on a recent minor league rehab assignment though and is ready to return and mash right-handed pitching once more. Miles Mastrobuoni was optioned to Triple-A Tacoma in a corresponding move on Friday.

The expectation is that the 30-year-old will remain there through the weekend before being re-evaluated. If everything checks out, he could be ready to return to the Mariners in advance of Tuesday’s series opener against the Orioles in Baltimore.

Raley hit the injured list last week with back spasms and shouldn’t need a ton of time to ramp back up now that the issue has been put to bed.

This is the move that clears room for Tyler Locklear to make his season debut. Raley had already mostly fallen out of the picture for the Mariners following the Josh Naylor acquisition, and there was some thought that he might get traded. That’s probably off the table now.

Raley hit his first homer since returning from his oblique injury Friday, and this one was clobbered to center with an estimated distance of 436 feet. The 30-year-old is expected to hit in the middle of the order against right-handers, and he’ll get a chance to drive in some pretty good players when he’s in the lineup. Just keep in mind that he’s been one of the most inconsistent hitters in the sport over the last two-plus seasons.

Raley came off the bench and went 1-for-3 with a double during Friday’s series opener against the Cubs at Wrigley Field just a few hours after being activated from the injured list. The 30-year-old corner outfielder wound up missing nearly two months with a right oblique strain. He’ll factor into Seattle’s right field mix and could also spend some time at first base with Rowdy Tellez gone from the picture.

Raley wound up missing nearly eight weeks with a strained oblique. He’s back now after going 7-for-19 with a homer in five games for Triple-A Tacoma. He’ll start against righties and primarily play first base after the Mariners cut Rowdy Tellez to make room for him. He should offer some fantasy value in deeper leagues, though probably not 10- and 12-teamers.

Raley has been out since late April with an oblique string, and his return would be a welcome addition to the Mariners lineup. In his first four rehab games with Triple-A Tacoma, Raley is 5-for-14 with a homer, a double, a walk and a strikeout. He hit 22 home runs for the Mariners last season and could be a decent source of power and deeper formats when he returns.

Raley has been out since the end of April with his oblique strain. The 30-year-old will likely need a handful of games in Triple-A, and then he should return to a regular role against right-handed pitching with the Mariners in the middle of June.

Raley was scratched from Tuesday’s lineup after tweaking his back during batting practice, and he’ll miss at least one more game with the issue. Samad Taylor will start in Raley’s place and hit ninth while handling right field.

Raley also drew a walk. It’s nice to see him drive the baseball Saturday, as he is still just slugging .289 on the young campaign. Raley has been hot-and-cold for the past two-plus seasons, and the hope is that this is the start of a hot run for the 30-year-old outfielder/infielder.
