After starting just one of seven games from Sept. 9-16, Steer, who has been dealing with leg and neck issues, has been at first base each of the last three and gone 5-for-10 with three homers and eight RBI. He became the first Reds player to reach 20 homers this year, beating Elly De La Cruz by about three minutes when the two homered consecutively in the sixth inning.

Steer had a pair of run-scoring hits, with the biggest being his three-run blast off Andre Pallante. He added two more RBI to push his total to 69 on the season with a single to score a pair in the seventh. Steer has been up-and-down in 2025 due to injury and performance when healthy, but he’s now the owner of 18 homers and a .716 OPS in 476 at-bats.

Steer has been out since last Friday and recently went to a chiropractor to get an adjustment for his troublesome neck. Apparently, medical school works wonders because Steer is back in the lineup on Wednesday. Sal Stewart will shift from first base to third base, and Ke’Bryan Hayes will have the day off.

Reds manager Terry Francona said Steer is feeling great after getting an adjustment by a chiropractor earlier on Tuesday. The 27-year-old will sit out at least one additional contest with rookie sensation Sal Stewart, who has homered four times in 11 games since arriving in the big leagues earlier this month, continues to handle the cold corner.

Sal Stewart takes over at first base with Ke’Bryan Hayes entering the lineup to handle the hot corner. Steer is presumably day-to-day for now. There should be an update on his status following the contest.

Steer is back at the cold corner and batting sixth following a brief two-game absence due to a relatively minor leg issue. His return pushes top prospect Sal Stewart, who has gone 2-for-8 in a pair of games since being promoted earlier this week, back to the bench for now.

Sal Stewart is again playing first base. The issue is apparently something that Steer has been playing through, but now that Stewart is up, the Reds are giving him a little bit of a break. He did enter Monday’s game as a defensive replacement for Stewart. Presumably, he’ll again be available off the bench.

Steer smacked a ground-rule double off of Juan Morillo to open the seventh inning but wound up getting stranded at third base. He then crushed a 397-foot (103.4 mph EV) three-run blast off of Juan Burgos in the eighth inning that increased the Reds’ lead to 5-1. With his two-hit attack, Steer is now hitting .236/.302/.397 with 16 homers, 62 RBI and six stolen bases on the season.

Steer isn’t exactly on a tear in hitting .263 over his last 10 games, but he does have three homers and 13 RBI during the span. He has 54 RBI on the season: 27 in his first 74 games and now 27 in his last 35 games. Still, his batting average breaks down as .243 in those first 74 games and .238 since.

Steer has been functioning as the team’s regular first baseman, but he’ll get a breather in this one. Miguel Andujar will make a rare start at the position and will bat sixth for the Reds on Friday night against Mitch Keller and the Pirates.

Steer got the Reds on the board first in this one, smacking an RBI single off of Shota Imanaga in the top half of the fifth inning. He then broke a 1-1 tie and put them ahead to stay with a 377-foot (98.4 mph EV) three-run blast off of Andrew Kittredge in the seventh inning. With his two-hit attack, the versatile 27-year-old slugger is now hitting .239/.305/.394 with 13 homers, 50 RBI and six stolen bases over 413 plate appearances on the season.

Steer was the hero of this game, working an 11-pitch at-bat against Emmet Sheehan that ended with a two-run triple to give his Reds an eighth-inning lead. The ball should have been a home run too, as James Outman skied over the center field fence to keep the ball in the yard, but it clanked off the heel of his glove for a triple. Funny enough, Steer also got a gift earlier in his at-bat when he hit a foul ball to right field that Andy Pages misjudged and dropped. Steer seemed to turn a corner in June after a dreadful start to his season, only to struggle again in July with a .669 OPS.

If the Reds want to contend, a change at first base seems like a must. Even if they don’t want to surrender talent for an upgrade, they could just demote Steer and give Christian Encarnacion-Strand a real look. Steer has opened the second half 4-for-30, and he’s at just .241/.301/.382 overall. Statcast actually thinks he should be faring considerably worse than that, what with his poor 29% hard-hit rate. He’s striking out more and walking less than he did in either 2023 and ’24, so it’s just complete and total regression here.

Steer has taken a step back in July after a strong month of June. In 16 games this month, Steer is hitting .222/.311/.370 with two home runs and eight RBI. He does have only eight strikeouts in those 16 games, so he’s continuing to make lots of contact and should fall into a hot streak again soon. Santiago Espinal will play first base and bat ninth.

Steer jumped on a 1-0 fastball from Cal Quantrill and clubbed it for a 395-foot (103.1 mph EV) solo shot that extended the Reds’ lead to 2-0. That would be his only hit in four at-bats on the day, which included a pair of strikeouts. For the season, the versatile 27-year-old is now hitting .252/.307/.412 with 11 long balls, 38 RBI and six stolen bases.

Steer’s double was a liner over the third baseman’s head that hit the chalk down the left field line, giving the Reds a 5-3 lead in a game they’d win 9-6. Steer is 18-for-41 with four homers and 12 RBI in his last 11 games, raising his OPS from .631 to .726.

Steer was hit by a pitch in the first game Wednesday. With Steer and Noelvi Marte in the lineup, the Reds are sitting Christian Encarnacion-Strand today against a lefty.

Cincinnati ultimately decided not to take any chances after Steer was hit by a pitch on the right hand during the opening contest of Wednesday’s twin bill at Fenway Park. Ironically, he’s been replaced at first base by Christian Encarnacion-Strand, who was originally sitting out after fouling a ball off his foot earlier in the day. The 27-year-old first baseman has been diagnosed with merely a contusion, so it doesn’t appear that he’s dealing with any fractures after initial X-rays came back negative. Fantasy managers should keep an eye on his status heading into Friday’s series opener against the Phillies.

It’s encouraging to see Steer in the lineup after Reds manager Terry Francona told reporters he’s dealing with some swelling after being hit by a pitch on the hand during the front-end of Wednesday’s doubleheader at Fenway Park. He also launched a two-run homer prior to being hit in the late stages of the contest. It doesn’t sound like a serious concern at the moment.

Both events happened after play resumed today. Steer’s homer was a high fly to left that bounced off the top of the Green Monster. Statcast said it would have been a homer in 12 ballparks. The HBP afterwards was not a matter of retaliation, but Steer starting to swing at a fastball tailing in and taking it off the hand. He was checked by the trainer but was able to finish the game.

Steer entered play Friday with six home runs on the year. By the fifth inning, the 27-year-old infielder had nine home runs. Steer hit two solo shots off Dylan Cease and a two-run home run off reliever Yuki Matsui in the fifth inning. Steer still has just a .704 OPS on the year, but with the Reds moving on from Jeimer Candelario earlier this week, he seems entrenched as the first baseman for the rest of the season.

Steer had the middle of three singles as the Reds scored twice to win the game in the 11th. Gavin Lux delivered the actual game-winner off the bench. Steer has 12 hits in his last seven games, and his current .660 OPS is his high mark of the season. He’s still not hitting the ball hard enough to inspire much confidence — his xwOBA has actually been trending downwards — but at least he’s settling playing time concerns that could have arisen with Austin Hays nearly ready to come off the IL and Noelvi Marte not too far behind.

The game was halted with two outs in the bottom of the sixth and never resumed afterwards. Steer particularly liked the result, as he collected his sixth homer and 11th double in 265 plate appearances. Playing time is set to again become an issue in the Cincinnati infield with Christian Encarnacion-Strand back, Jeimer Candelario soon to be activated and Noelvi Marte perhaps returning at the end the month. The Reds want Steer to be a regular, but he needs to do better than this current .631 OPS in order to justify regular playing time.

Steer’s liner to right was his lone hit in four at-bats, but since Will Benson had just doubled, it was a big one. Steer could be in danger of losing significant playing time with Christian Encarnacion-Strand back and Austin Hays and Jeimer Candelario also close. He likely still has a fair amount of fantasy upside, but he really needs a hot streak right about now.

Two days is the longest Terry Francona can go without playing Santiago Espinal, so Espinal is at third and Christian Encarnacion-Strand is at first tonight. Steer still hasn’t gotten hot any point, but he did reach five times and knock in two runs during the three-game series against the Diamondbacks over the weekend. Espinal is 1-for-29 in his last nine games.

Steer had two separate run-scoring singles and that was the extent of the Reds’ offense in this one. He hit two of his batted balls at least 98 mph and has put a disastrous April behind him with a solid .765 OPS in May.

Steer is finally starting to show some signs of life at the dish, hitting .315 (17-for-54) with one homer and one steal over his last 15 games, following an ice-cold start to the year. The 27-year-old dealt with shoulder issues during spring training, which may have contributed to his early struggles. It’ll be Connor Joe filling in at the cold corner on Sunday afternoon.

After opening up at .111/.184/.204 in 15 games as a DH, Steer has hit .293/.370/.452 in 10 games since his shoulder progressed enough for him to return to first base. He ought to be rostered in every mixed league.

Steer will make his first start of the season in the field during Sunday’s finale at Camden Yards. The 27-year-old had been limited to DH exclusively for the first couple weeks of the year due to a lingering shoulder issue. He’s been ice-cold at the dish, hitting .111 (6-for-54) with one homer and three RBI in 15 games.

Steer is supposed to be feeling better as he recovers from a shoulder ailment, but it’s not showing up in the numbers; he’s batting .111/.186/.204 with 18 strikeouts in 59 plate appearances, and his hard-hit rate is just 22%. He’s also yet to attempt a steal after going 25-for-28 in that department last year. Odds are that he’ll eventually get things turned around, but there’s little sign of it yet.
