Sugano closed out the regular season with an abbreviated clunker at Yankee Stadium that included three long balls, bringing his season total to 33 round-trippers. He finished with three strikeouts and didn’t hand out a free pass. The durable 35-year-old lived up to the offseason billing as a low-strikeout, pitch-to-contact innings-eater, finishing his Orioles debut with a pedestrian 4.64 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 106/36 K/BB ratio across 157 innings over 30 starts.

Sugano gave up just three hard-hit balls, but two of them were homers for Giancarlo Stanton and Aaron Judge. Sugano became the fifth pitcher this season to give up 30 homers. He dropped to 10-9 with a 4.54 ERA, and because of the short start, he’s no longer a candidate to be among the starters to qualify for the ERA title in his first year in the U.S.; he’d need to throw 9 1/3 more innings. Sugano will face the Yankees again next weekend.

Sugano was excellent on Saturday, holding the Blue Jays to just one run over six innings on an efficient 63 pitches. He got through four scoreless frames before Addison Barger got to him for a solo homer in the fifth. Sugano ends the day with a 4.39 ERA, 1.32 WHIP, and a 100/35 K/BB ratio across 149 2/3 innings. He’ll take on the Yankees in Baltimore next weekend.

Sugano said the foot didn’t swell as much as expected after he was hit by a comebacker. He’s likely to pitch Sunday against the Blue Jays.

Sugano was tagged for seven hits, including three homers, before being lifted after being struck by a comebacker off the bat of Dodgers infielder Hyeseong Kim. He struck out one and didn’t hand out a free pass. The 35-year-old veteran will undergo additional testing to determine his status for next weekend’s start against the Blue Jays.

The 35-year-old hurler walked one batter on the day while striking out four. The Giants’ offense got to him early and often in this one, scoring once in the first, twice in the third and then four more times while chasing Sugano in the fourth inning. He got 11 swings and misses on 80 pitches in the contest, posting a solid CSW of 33 percent. Sugano will try to improve upon his 4.41 ERA, 1.32 WHIP and 95/35 K/BB ratio (140 2/3 innings) when he does battle against the Dodgers on Sunday.

It was a rare off night for Sugano in this one as he was burned by the long ball, surrendering a leadoff homer to rookie phenom Roman Anthony before coughing up a go-ahead three-run blast to Jarren Duran in the fifth. He struck out six and only handed out a pair of free passes. He’ll bring a respectable 4.06 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and 91/34 K/BB ratio across 137 1/3 innings (25 starts) into a road tilt on Sunday against the Giants.

Sugano allowed five hits, all of them singles, and wound up with three strikeouts and no walks. It seems like major leaguers should hit him harder, but they simply haven’t yet. He’s yet to give up a homer in four starts in August after allowing 21 in 20 starts over the first four months. He’ll again face the Red Sox next time out.

Sugano, who had a shutout going, probably would have finished the sixth if not for a two-hour, 18-minute rain delay halting play while he had one out and a man on first. Rico Garcia replaced him when the game resumed and immediately gave up a homer to Julio Rodríguez. Fortunately, the Orioles still had a 5-2 lead at that point and went on to win 5-3. The Orioles are now 15-8 when Sugano starts, compared to 40-58 the rest of the time. It’s not like Sugano has been all that effective with his 4.13 ERA, but he’s typically been just good enough. He’ll face the Red Sox in Boston on Tuesday.

Sugano mixed his six pitches beautifully – he threw five of them at least 13% of the time – and worked efficiently to grind out seven innings. The Athletics had traffic on the bases constantly, but Sugano always made a big pitch when he needed one to get out of a jam. He’s scheduled to face the Mariners at home next time out.

Sugano tossed a clean first inning, then surrendered two runs on three hits and a sacrifice fly in the second. The Cubs added a third run in the fourth on a triple and a base hit. Sugano would complete five frames, striking out five batters. The 35-year-old right-hander will take a 4.42 ERA, 1.32 WHIP, and a 76/29 K/BB ratio across 114 innings into a start against the Athletics in Baltimore on Friday.

A few days after disappointing against the Guardians, Sugano bounced back with eight strikeouts and just two walks while posting a 31 percent whiff rate and 32 percent CSW. Sugano’s velocity was up on all of his pitches and even sat 94 mph on his four-seam fastball, which would be an interesting development. As it is, he’s a nibbler, constantly pitching around the strike zone and relying on hitters to chase and make weak contact. That has led to a 4.38 ERA on the season, but he is not somebody we would start next week against the Cubs. If he’s even still on the Orioles by then.

Although he’s known for his command, Sugano walked three for a second straight start and hit a batter tonight. He has a 7.88 ERA and a 23/14 K/BB over just 32 innings in his last seven starts. The Orioles will stick with him, but we’re not sure things will get much better.

Sugano also walked three batters in the ballgame while recording a pair of strikeouts. The Mets scratched out a pair of runs against him in the opening inning and had him on the ropes, but the crafty right-hander allowed just one additional run — an RBI single to Brett Baty in the fourth inning — the rest of the way. He generated 11 whiffs on 99 pitches on the afternoon, registering a CSW of 24 percent. Sugano finishes the first half with a 7-5 record, 4.44 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and a 59/22 K/BB ratio over 99 1/3 innings through his first 18 starts with the Orioles.

It’ll be made up on Thursday as a doubleheader. Wednesday’s original starting pitchers — David Peterson and Tomoyuki Sugano — will presumably take the ball at some point during the twin bill at Camden Yards.

The Rangers absolutely teed off on Sugano after they went around their order one time. Marcus Semien got the party started with a three-run homer in the third inning. They rallied for two more in the fourth and Corey Seager crushed a 420 foot home run in the fifth. Sugano was mercifully pulled from the game soon thereafter and has now allowed 13 earned runs over his past two starts. After a strong start to the season, he now has a 4.44 ERA after it sat at 3.04 less than a month ago. He’s scheduled to face the Mets next time out in his last start before the All-Star break.

Sugano gave up nine hits, walked one and struck out two. It’s rare that a pitcher allows seven runs and still gets the win, but Sugano accomplished that feat as he was able to complete five innings as the Orioles piled on 22 runs against the Rays. Sugano has a 4.06 ERA and 52/18 K/BB ratio in 88 2/3 innings this year, but his 4.61 xFIP suggests he’s been fortunate. His 1.73 HR/9 is also concerning. Sugano is lined up to face the Rangers on the road next week.

The Orioles elected to scratch Sugano from Wednesday’s scheduled start against the Rangers, giving the ball to pitching prospect Brandon Young instead, in an effort to give the veteran righty some extra rest between outings. The 35-year-old is healthy and will get the ball for Friday’s series opener at Camden Yards.

It’ll be pitching prospect Brandon Young coming up from Triple-A Norfolk to make a spot start in his place. Orioles interim manager Tony Mansolino told reporters Sugano is healthy, but the club wants to give him some extra rest after pitching in a six-man rotation throughout his career in Japan. He’ll presumably be ready to take the ball for Friday’s series opener against the Rays.

Sugano struggled mightily with the Yankees. He let the first four batters of the game reach base safely and was under duress from that point inward. The lead-off hitter got on in every inning he started and he was generally fortunate to give up just two runs despite 10 reaching base in under four innings of work. This is now back-to-back starts by Sugano where he failed to complete five innings. He’d done so in 10 of his first 12 starts this season. He’ll look to get back on track in his next scheduled start against the Rangers at home.

Sugano walked the leadoff man in the first inning and served up a two-run blast to Mike Trout. He then gave up a run in the fifth on a single, double, and two hit batters before leaving with two outs in the inning at 80 pitches. He struck out four. The 35-year-old right-hander will take a 3.38 ERA, 1.14 WHIP, and a 46/14 K/BB ratio across 80 innings into a start against the Rays in Tampa on Thursday.

The 35-year-old right-hander walked one batter while striking out two in the ballgame. The A’s got to him early and often in this one, scratching out a run in the opening inning and adding three more (one unearned) in the second. Sugano settled in nicely afterwards, but the damage had already been done. He got four whiffs on 87 pitches on the afternoon, posting an underwhelming CSW of only 17 percent. He’ll attempt to bounce back as he carries a 3.23 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and a 42/12 K/BB ratio (75 1/3 innings) into Saturday’s matchup against the Angels.

Sugano surrendered a solo homer to Rowdy Tellez in the second inning. That would be the only run he allowed over seven outstanding frames. He scattered four other hits and one walk while striking out five on his way to the win. The 35-year-old right-hander will take a 3.04 ERA, 1.04 WHIP, and a 40/11 K/BB ratio across 71 innings into a start against the Athletics in Sacramento on Sunday.

Sugano left with a one-run lead, but it failed to last. Sugano has allowed more than three runs just once in 11 starts, giving up four in that one. Alas, he’s stuck on four wins right now, with the last of those coming 18 days ago. He’ll face the Mariners in Seattle next time out.

Sugano didn’t allow a run until the seventh inning, and that came on a fielder’s choice off the bat of Taylor Ward. The 35-year-old didn’t walk anyone and struck out five, and continues to give hitters trouble in his rookie season. Sugano’s lack of elite swing-and-miss stuff will results in some clunkers, but it’s pretty clear he can pitch. He’ll face the Twins on Thursday.

Sugano pitched well enough to win, but his offense didn’t come close to playing well enough to give him that opportunity. The 35-year-old allowed just four hits — one of those a solo homer by Cavan Biggio — and he struck out four against two walks. Sugano forged a 2.79 ERA in April, and he’s off to a nice start for the month of May, even with the loss. He’ll get the Twins next week in Minnesota.

Sugano’s signature splitter was on point this one as he piled up 17 swinging strikes and limited New York’s potent lineup to just five singles and one walk over five scoreless frames. He entered this outing with the lowest strikeout percentage (eight percent) of any qualified starter in baseball this season, so we’re not anticipating a massive uptick in strikeouts moving forward. The 35-year-old veteran has proven to be a viable back-end rotation stabilizer for fantasy purposes, even if he’s not going to miss a ton of bats. He’ll carry a strong 3.00 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 17/6 K/BB ratio across 33 innings (six starts) into a home outing on Sunday against the Royals.

Overall, Sugano had another fine start, he was just done in by two bad pitches. All three of the Nationals’ runs came from home runs by James Wood and Josh Bell. Besides that, they rarely threatened despite Sugano forcing just four total swings and misses. He throws plenty of junk and has a deep enough repertoire to be fairly effective, as he’s been so far during his first season. He’ll likely regress from his current 3.54 ERA though and is scheduled for a two-start week coming up against the Yankees and Royals.

The runs came on back-to-back homers from Daniel Schneeman and Austin Hedges in the third, of course. This is pretty much what Sugano is going to do when he’s on; he’ll be vulnerable to the home run ball, but he’ll also produce a bunch of routine contact while walking no one and striking out only a few more. He fanned three tonight, giving him eight strikeouts in 22 innings on the season. Nevertheless, he’s 2-1 with a 3.43 ERA. He’ll pitch against the Nationals next time out.

Sugano allowed a run on back-to-back doubles to start the game before escaping the first inning with just the one run scored. A walk and two base hits brought one more run in for the Blue Jays in the second. Anthony Santander added one more for Toronto in the third on a solo blast. Sugano would exit in the fifth with two outs at 73 pitches. He failed to record a strikeout. The 35-year-old right-hander has struck out just five batters through 14 innings on the season. He’ll take on the Guardians in Baltimore on Thursday.
