Tidwell worked 4 1/3 innings while allowing three runs against the Brewers on Wednesday, and his reward for his first MLB victory is a trip back to the minors. The 24-year-old will likely be back before the end of 2025 with minimum fantasy upside.

Tidwell was cruising right along after following opener Huascar Brazobán until the sixth inning when Christian Yelich and Jackson Chourio hit back-to-back homers to start the frame. It was their second time seeing the rookie in this game and both tagged fastballs in the heart of the zone. Then, Rhys Hoskins smacked a single and eventually came around to score after Tidwell was pulled from the game. This was the first time he’s completed four innings in the big leagues as the Mets are clearly trying to bring him along slowly.

Tidwell is up to add depth to the Mets’ bullpen in one of a plethora of moves that New York announced Friday. It’s also possible he could make starts with Griffin Canning (Achilles) likely out for the year, but that role hasn’t been announced just yet. In either fashion, Tidwell doesn’t offer much fantasy intrigue.

Tidwell has been jettisoned back to the minors after allowing two runs over 3 2/3 innings on Friday in a spot start against the Phillies. This was always going to be a one-and-done outing for the 24-year-old prospect, regardless of the results, with veteran Frankie Montas (lat) set to rejoin New York’s rotation mix.

Tidwell actually matched opposing starter Zack Wheeler for the first few frames of this one. He threw a few fastballs that exploded out of his hand at the top of the zone and found a genuine feel for his cutter in the middle innings. Then, he lost his command a bit in the fourth inning and was replaced with just 74 pitches. Reliever José Castillo let one of his inherited runners score in the following at-bat. Tidwell has major league caliber stuff and this Mets rotation is currently in shambles, so he could stick for the time being. If he makes another start in regular rest, it will come next week at home against the Braves.

Tidwell is up to make a start against the Phillies on Friday. The right-hander was hit hard in his first appearance in the majors, and this is a tough lineup to justify using him as a streamer, but Tidwell does have quality stuff and has pitched well in Triple-A.

The 24-year-old right-hander was clobbered for six runs over 3 2/3 innings in his lone start with the Mets this season. He has also struggled at Triple-A Syracuse recently, making him a tough streaming option against a good Phillies’ offense on the road on Friday night.

Tidwell did walk four and give up two runs, but still ... no hits and 11 strikeouts is pretty remarkable. The Mets are hoping Frankie Montas and Sean Manaea come back strong and leave them with little need to turn to their young arms in the rotation this summer, but if it doesn’t work out, Tidwell could get an extended look at some point. He also might be a candidate to be traded if the Mets look to add.

The 23-year-old right-hander took a loss against the Cardinals in his big league debut on Sunday, giving up six runs over 3 2/3 innings. He’ll head back to the rotation at Triple-A Syracuse where he’ll bide his time until the Mets have another need for a spot starter or injury replacement. Dedniel Núñez was recalled from Triple-A Syracuse to take his place on the active roster prior to the nightcap of Sunday’s doubleheader.

Tidwell gave up nine hits, walked three and struck out two. He was called up for a spot start in the first game of Sunday’s doubleheader with St. Louis. The 23-year-old right-hander tossed a scoreless first inning before getting himself into trouble. He wouldn’t escape a disastrous fourth inning that saw him walk the bases loaded and give up two two-run singles. While Tidwell didn’t exactly endear himself to the organization or fantasy managers with this out, he could be called on again in the future if the Mets are in need of another starter.

Tidwell is the quintessential high-risk pitching prospect with a deadly slider and lackluster control, which makes him extremely challenging to forecast from a fantasy standpoint. The hard-throwing 23-year-old will make his major-league debut in the opening contest of Saturday’s doubleheader against the Cardinals at Busch Stadium. He possesses enough strikeout upside to be under consideration for fantasy managers in deeper mixed leagues, but the omnipresent control issues amplify the immediate risk as he transitions to the majors. He’s one of the more intriguing pitching prospects out there and is at least worthy of a speculative roster spot in deeper formats.

Mendoza noted that Tidwell will function as a traditional starter instead of having an opener work in front of him, as the club wants him to be able to go through his regular pregame routine. It sounds like it’s just a one-time spot start regardless of how he pitches, but he has an opportunity to possibly change some minds if he comes out and dazzles in his debut. The 23-year-old pitching prospect misses a ton of bats, but has some serious control issues as well. He’s definitely not a fit for the risk-averse fantasy managers out there.

Mendoza noted that he’ll be used as a traditional starter instead of having an opener work in front of him, as the club wants him to be able to go through his regular pregame routine. It sounds like it’s just a one-time thing and regardless of how he pitches he’ll be sent back to Triple-A Syracuse, but perhaps he could change some minds if he comes out and dazzles on Sunday.

He’ll likely make a spot start to give the Mets rotation an extra day off between outings. Tidwell, 23, has a 5.00 ERA for Triple-A Syracuse this season, though it comes with a nice 37/10 K/BB in 27 innings. He’ll probably be sent back down after his start.

He also allowed only two hits and walked one on the day, but those strikeouts led him to throw 74 pitches in a little over four innings before being removed from the game. He rode his four-seam fastball and sweeper to much success on Sunday with 15 swing and misses, and eight of those coming on his sweeper. The 23-year-old has 28 strikeouts in 22 1/2 innings this season and could get a shot with the Mets sometime later this season if they need another arm in the rotation.
