Tovar clobbered a three-run jack to center off an otherwise-excellent Trevor McDonald to get the Rockies to within a pair at 5-3. He also singled to push his slash to .256/.299/.402 with two games left to play. Tovar’s season has been lackluster, but he’s not the reason the Rockies fell to 74 games under .500 Friday.

The 24-year-old shortstop got the Rockies on the board with an RBI single off of Dylan Cease in the third inning that made it a 3-1 ballgame. That would be the extent of their offense. Tovar is now hitting .274/.317/.435 with eight homers, 25 RBI and four stolen bases over his first 316 plate appearances.

It appears to be just a routine day of rest for the 24-year-old shortstop. Ryan Ritter was activated from the injured list prior to the game and he’ll start at shortstop and bat ninth against Brandon Pfaadt and the Diamondbacks on Friday evening at Coors Field.

Tovar launched a 408 foot, go-ahead homer in the eighth inning to complete a comeback in a game the Rockies trailed 4-0 after just eight batters. That was his third homer in just six games since coming off the injured list and he has a hit in all but one of those games. Tovar has the ability to get red-hot in the blink of an eye and this could be the start of one of those streaks.

Rockies interim manager Warren Schaeffer told reporters they’re trying to be cautious with Tovar coming off a left oblique strain, so he’ll continue to get routine off days moving forward. It’ll be veteran Orlando Arcia taking over at shortstop on Sunday afternoon in his absence.

Tovar broke a 3-3 tie by clobbering a Zebby Matthews pitch in the fifth inning with a pair of runners on. The 23-year-old shortstop has just four homers on the year, but it’s obviously worth noting how that has pretty much everything to do with how much time he missed with injury. When healthy, Tovar looks like a future fantasy star.

The 23-year-old shortstop will make his triumphant return to the Rockies’ lineup for Friday night’s second-half opener against the Twins. Before landing on the injured list with a left oblique strain in early June he had been hitting .258/.301/.406 with three homers, 10 RBI and a pair of stolen bases through his first 138 plate appearances on the season.

Tovar is 2-for-12 in his three rehab games at Triple-A, but is still spending most of his time at designated hitter. The team will need to see him play shortstop for a full game, likely multiple in a row, before they feel comfortable bringing him off the IL. That could happen soon after the All-Star break though.

Tovar, 23, has been able to take batting practice and off the tee in the past week, but being able able to run the bases is a big step Rockies manager Warren Sheffler told reporters that Tovar is close to having a rehab assignment, so there’s a chance we could see him back in the lineup for Colorado not long after the All-Star break.

Tovar has yet to advance to taking full batting practice yet, but it’s a positive sign that he’s making some progress in his recovery from a left oblique strain that put him on the shelf back in early June. There’s a decent chance he’s back in Colorado’s lineup in the early stages of the second half.

Tovar has been out of the lineup over the last few days, and the Rockies won’t play short-handed. The 23-year-old will miss at least a week with the injury, and there’s no guarantee that he’ll be back before the end of June. To replace Tovar, the Rockies selected the contract of Ryan Ritter.

Tovar “felt something in his body” on Monday night and was removed from the game. He has not played since, and the Rockies are “evaluating his left oblique.” None of that sounds entirely promising, but we’ll wait for the Rockies to give more details before we assume he’s headed to the IL. Orlando Arcia will start at shortstop in his place on Wednesday.

Tovar will get some extra time off the rest after making an early exit from Monday’s series opener with discomfort in his left side around his ribs. It’ll be Orlando Arcia taking over at shortstop in his absence. He’ll presumably undergo further evaluation and testing to determine whether he’s dealing with an oblique strain. Fantasy managers should consider him day-to-day for now.

Rockies interim manager Warren Schaeffer told reporters Tovar was lifted for precautionary reasons after “feeling something” near his left ribs during Monday’s series opener. The lack of specifics makes it challenging to forecast his immediate outlook, but it doesn’t sound like anything too serious. Fantasy managers should consider him day-to-day for now.

Tovar ripped a solo homer off Cristopher Sánchez for his second roundtripper of the season, and he added another RBI with a single in the third. He’s picked up hits in seven of his last 10 at-bats, and it’s improved his slash to .270/.310/.450.

Tovar will get a break during Sunday’s showdown at Chase Field after recording a career-high five hits during Saturday’s slugfest. It’s certainly nice to see the 23-year-old producing again in his return from the injured list after a frosty start to the year.

Tovar needed just a double for the cycle. The 23-year-old connected on his first homer of 2025 with a solo shot in the third inning off Zac Gallen. Tovar was just activated from the injured list Friday after missing significant time with his hip injury, but he’s one of the few Colorado hitters worthy of roster consideration right now.

The dynamic 23-year-old shortstop has been shelved since mid-April due to a hip contusion. His bat is desperately needed in the middle of a Rockies’ lineup that has been struggling to generate consistent offense. Before landing on the shelf, Tovar was slashing .212/.257/.303 with zero homers, four RBI and two stolen bases in his first 66 at-bats.

Tovar told MLB.com’s Thomas Harding on Monday that he’s feeling better, but has only progressed to jogging as he works his way back from a left hip contusion that put him on the injured list back on April 19. He’ll need to advance to sprinting and running the bases at full speed before he’s cleared for a rehab assignment.

Tovar winds up hitting the injured list just a few days after being scratched from Wednesday’s lineup with left hip pain. It doesn’t seem like a serious concern, but the 23-year-old shortstop is going to wind up missing at least the next week or so. He’s struggled out of the gate this season, hitting .212 (14-for-66) with zero homers, four RBI and two steals in 16 games.

No word yet on the severity of the issue, but it seems like a precautionary decision on the part of the Rockies, who don’t want to risk anything serious with one of their young foundational players. It’ll be veteran Kyle Farmer taking over at shortstop in his absence. There should be an update on his status following Wednesday’s series finale at Dodger Stadium.
