Westburg made Yanks’ starter Will Warren pay for an 0-2 sweeper that inexplicably caught too much of the plate and sent it exactly one row deep in the left field stands. He had two other base hits in this game as well while he tries to end what’s been an inconsistent season for him – mostly due to a few trips to the injured list – on a high note.

For the season, the 26-year-old infielder is now slashing .264/.318/.454 with 15 homers, 34 RBI and one stolen base in 318 plate appearances.

The 26-year-old infielder has been shelved since August 17 due to a mild right ankle sprain. He’ll probably play a couple of games there over the weekend and as long as everything goes well, he would be cleared to rejoin the team on Monday for their series opener against the White Sox in Chicago.

Last week at this time, they said he could begin a rehab assignment last weekend. Westburg’s ankle injury, sustained running the bases on Aug. 17, was supposed to be mild, and the Orioles waited four days to put him on the injured list, but now it seems like he’s going wind up missing a full month.

Westburg has resumed all baseball activities, and the 26-year-old should be able to report to Triple-A in the coming days. Barring a setback, he should be able to finish what has been an injury-riddled — but productive when on the field — season.

The Orioles were hoping to take it day-by-day through the weekend, but ultimately it made sense to sit Westburg down and ensure that the injury fully heals. Vimael Machin was promoted from Triple-A Norfolk in a corresponding move to take his place on the active roster and add depth to the O’s infield.

Orioles’ manager Tony Mansolino told reporters that they’re still hopeful Westburg will be able to avoid the injured list and that he may miss four or five games and still take things on a day-to-day basis. Jeremiah Jackson will fill in for him at third base once again on Thursday and will bat second for the O’s against Jason Alexander and the Astros.

Westburg will get the night off after exiting Monday’s series opener with right ankle discomfort. Orioles interim manager Tony Mansolino told reporters afterwards that he believes the injury is relatively mild. It certainly seems like Westburg will avoid a trip to the injured list, but that decision will likely come down to how his ankle responds to treatment. It’ll be Luis Vázquez taking over at the keystone in his absence.

Westburg can’t seem to catch a break. The timing is extremely unfortunate as it comes on the heels of a four-hit, five-RBI performance during Sunday’s slugfest against the Astros. The 26-year-old infielder stumbled while rounding second base in the opening frame and was immediately lifted from the contest after a consultation with team trainers. He’ll head for further evaluation and testing to determine the severity of the injury. There should be an update on his status following the game.

Westburg has been on fire of late. His first inning single – that he scorched 109.9 mph – helped start a rally off Marlins’ starter Edward Cabrera. He was eventually involved in two other rallies scoring three runs in total and being an engine out of the two-hole for Baltimore. He’s now had multiple hits in three of his last six games and took what was a .657 OPS when he returned from his hamstring injury a month ago up to .807 after this game.

No surprise here given the quick turnaround on Sunday morning and Westburg continuing to manage an ongoing finger issue. The ailment clearly hasn’t impacted the 26-year-old infielder’s on-field performance since he’s gone 4-for-8 with a pair of home runs in two games since returning to Baltimore’s lineup. It’ll be Ramón Urías at the hot corner on Sunday in his place.

The 26-year-old infielder has missed six of the club’s last eight games. There’s been no indication that he’ll require a trip to the injured list, but those odds increase exponentially the longer he remains sidelined. The 26-year-old infielder was spotted playing catch during pregame drills with a wrap on his finger. It’s an encouraging sign that he’s managed to avoid a trip to the injured list, but that might be inevitable if he’s not ready to play at some point towards the middle of next week. Fantasy managers should consider him day-to-day for now. It’ll be veteran Ramón Urías continuing to handle the hot corner in his absence.

Orioles’ manager Tony Mansolino told reporters on Saturday that Westburg wasn’t a candidate to head to the injured list, but that he’ll probably be out a “couple of days”. He also noted that this finger injury isn’t as bad as the one Westburg experienced last time. Either way, fantasy managers shouldn’t expect him to return until early next week.

Westburg missed three games earlier in the week due to the injury. He appeared to aggravate it while diving headfirst into second base on his first-inning double on Friday night. While he remained in the game after a visit from the training staff, he was ultimately removed the following inning. Expect him to undergo further evaluation to see if any additional damage was done this time around. Stay tuned.
