Schlittler is working to add a new weapon against left-handed hitters after leaning heavily on his fastball and cutter combination — with the occasional curveball mixed in — during an impressive rookie campaign where he delivered a sparkling 2.96 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 84/31 K/BB ratio across 73 innings over 14 regular-season starts, then followed it with two stellar postseason outings. The electrifying 24-year-old was already shaping up as one of the most coveted breakout arms in early fantasy drafts, and this developmental wrinkle only strengthens the case. He’ll enter next spring firmly in the top-30 starting pitcher conversation.

Arias was non-tendered last week after a 2025 season in which he missed some time but posted a 2.73 ERA in 29 2/3 innings in the minors. He’s too wild to help out in the majors right now, but he just turned 24 and the stuff is there for him to become a quality reliever if he can start throwing more strikes.

The 28-year-old Rodríguez, who has an 8.17 ERA in 30 major league appearances with the Rangers and Blue Jays, didn’t pitch last season after being released by the Pirates in spring training. He’ll be Triple-A depth for the Yankees.

All five hurlers non-tendered have dealt with injuries over the last few years, and the Yankees will allow all to test free agency. Leiter Jr. has the stuff to be a high-leverage option, but teams will likely be reticent of investing too much in a 34-year-old that has missed as much time as he has.

Schmidt’s new deal comes knowing that he won’t be available until the second half of 2026 because of an internal brace procedure on his right elbow. Once healthy, he’ll likely pitch in the middle of the Yankees’ rotation; likely after the All-Star break.

Cabrera fractured his ankle in May and missed the rest of the 2025 campaign; finishing with a .243/.322/.308 slash in 122 plate appearances. The infielder will compete for a utility spot with the Yankees in 2026.

The deal, which had been reported on Monday, is now official after the 33-year-old southpaw passed his physical. Yarbrough will also have the ability to make an extra $250,000 in performance bonuses. He’s likely to reprise his role as a swingman for the Yankees after posting a 4.36 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and a 55/19 K/BB ratio across 64 innings in 2025.

Ornelas, 25, was outrighted off the 40-man roster by Atlanta at the end of September. The 2018 third-round pick was an intriguing prospect at one point, but now is more organizational depth than anyone to pay attention to in fantasy circles.

One of the most polarizing prospects in baseball, Jones combines top-of-the-scale raw power with abysmal contact skills. The 24-year-old slugging prospect is capable of making some serious noise, especially in hitter-friendly Yankee Stadium, if he’s able to make enough contact to survive at the highest level. He’s the ultimate high-risk prospect for fantasy purposes. Rodríguez made a serious leap last season into one of the organization’s top pitching prospects, compiling a 2.58 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 176/57 K/BB ratio across 150 innings over 27 appearances (26 starts) between three levels.

This is probably the biggest surprise of the QO decisions, as it sounded like Grisham would have an opportunity to make similar money on a two- or three-year deal. Apparently, he wasn’t seeing that market. Grisham busted out offensively last season, but at the same time, his defense declined, which might have caused other teams to look at him as more of a corner outfield. The Yankees will probably keep him in center for now. They’re still expected to try to re-sign Cody Bellinger (or perhaps make a run at Kyle Tucker), which could leave little room for Jasson Domínguez or Spencer Jones.

Judge received 17 of 30 first-place votes to narrowly edge Cal Raleigh in one of the most compelling MVP races in recent memory, capturing the award for the second straight season and third time in his career. The 33-year-old Yankees icon led the majors with 10.1 WAR (per FanGraphs) while slashing .331/.457/.688 with 53 homers and 114 RBI across 152 games. Raleigh garnered the remaining 13 first-place votes to finish as the runner-up after delivering one of the greatest offensive seasons ever by a catcher, launching a record-setting 60 homers over 159 contests. José Ramírez finished a distant third, just ahead of Bobby Witt Jr. in AL MVP Award balloting.

The procedural move prevents Castro from becoming a minor league free agent and protects him from being gobbled up in next month’s Rule 5 Draft. The 26-year-old reliever last appeared in the big leagues back in 2022, but posted a sublime 1.53 ERA across 47 innings over 35 appearances at the Triple-A level this past season. He’ll presumably compete for a spot in the Yankees’ season-opening bullpen next spring.

Hill will be back as a key figure in the Yankees’ bullpen. The 35-year-old has very little strikeout appeal, which means he’s off all fantasy radars, but he did post a 3.09 ERA and 1.10 WHIP for the Yankees in 67 innings, so he has been a valuable real-life reliever for them.

Judge and Raleigh headline one of the most compelling AL MVP races in recent memory, with both franchise cornerstones building hardware-worthy cases. Raleigh crushed a major league-leading 60 home runs, shattering nearly every single-season offensive record imaginable for a catcher. Meanwhile, Judge is aiming to capture the award for the third time in four years after eclipsing the 50-homer plateau once again and finishing with a major league-best .331/.457/.688 slash line. Ramírez remains one of the game’s most underappreciated superstars, earning a top-three finish in MVP voting for the fourth time in his 13-year career. The winner will be announced on Thursday, November 13.

As always, the conversation around this year’s class will be dominated by discussions of Bonds and Clemens, who are both seemingly being kept out due to their past involvement with steroids. Perhaps this year will be different. Any player who gets 75 percent of the vote from a committee of writers, historians, and baseball executives will be selected into the Hall of Fame.

Cole is not expected to be ready for Opening Day as he continues to work his way back from Tommy John surgery, but Yankees manager Aaron Boone told reporters he should progress to facing hitters during spring training. He’s expected to meet with Dr. Neal ElAttrache this offseason to determine the next steps as he ramps up his throwing program. The 35-year-old former fantasy ace should make it back to New York at some point during the early stages of next season, which makes him an interesting mid-round target for fantasy purposes.

Cole had his Tommy John surgery on March 13, so an April return next year would be awfully aggressive. Still, Cole is 35 and probably particularly motivated to make it back, and he’s also apparently felt good since he resumed throwing in August. He might be undervalued in early drafts.

Volpe can start hitting in four months, but it’ll be six before he’s allowed to dive on defense, which probably means he’ll spend most of April on the injured list. Boone, who maintained that he didn’t think playing through a labrum tear had much of an effect on Volpe’s performance, also didn’t promise that Volpe would get his starting job back after returning. José Caballero can be penciled in as the Yankees’ Opening Day shortstop for now, though the team will add another utility option.

The Yankees also want Domínguez to play some winter ball after he saw only limited action in the second half of the season. Domínguez is definitely something of a question mark for the Yankees; his struggles on defense continued this year, and while he had a nice 50% hard-hit rate, he didn’t pull the ball enough and would up slugging just .388 to go along with a decent .257 average. His fantasy upside, though, remains pretty exciting, and the Yankees have outfield time opening up with both Cody Bellinger and Trent Grisham becoming free agents.

Judge, who recently underwent another MRI, was limited after suffering a flexor tendon strain in late July. If he went in to have it repaired, he’d almost certainly miss the start of 2026. “He’ll take some time off and continue to do strengthening things and rehab stuff,” Boone said.

Aaron Boone suggested that he’d be delayed a few weeks entering the year. Being still four months away from the start of spring training, bone spur surgery seems like something Rodón could recover from and still be ready for Opening Day. Still, there’s not much harm in playing it safe in April. This could quiet any talk about the Yankees moving Luis Gil to the pen next spring. As of right now, Gil and Will Warren are the third and fourth starters behind Max Fried and Cam Schlittler.

The Yankees have yet to comment, but Volpe apparently had the labrum in his non-throwing shoulder repaired. He was hurt diving for a groundball in May, but he played through it while receiving cortisone shots in June and September. While it’s possible the Yankees will look to move on from Volpe this winter, the fact that he was hurt during his disappointing season should give them pause about selling low.

Joyce adds that former Pirates skipper Derek Shelton and Red Sox bench coach Ramón Vazquez are two additional names that surfaced as potential candidates to replace Rocco Baldelli, who was fired at the end of the regular season following an ugly 70-92 campaign. Rowson has spent the last two seasons as New York’s hitting coach with the Yankees leading the majors this past season in runs scored (849), home runs (274) and OPS (.787).

Judge told reporters following New York’s elimination from the postseason that “we’ll definitely do some work on it and get it right.” The 33-year-old Yankees icon was diagnosed with a flexor strain in late July and was mostly limited to DH during the second half before returning to right field in the late stages of the season. There should be some clarity on his status and outlook heading into spring training at some point in the early stages of the offseason.

Judge also drew a walk. It’s a disappointing end to the season for the likely MVP, but the Yankees’ dismissal had little — if anything — to do with his play. He finished the postseason with a slash of .500/.581/.682 over his seven games while hitting one homer and driving in seven runs. Judge should be one of the first outfielders off the board come 2026, and remains as consistent an offensive threat as there is in baseball.

Schlittler didn’t have near the same success he had against Boston in Game 3 of the Wild Card Series, even when adding in that two of the runs were unearned because of a Jazz Chisholm Jr. error. He threw plenty of strikes with no walks, but he may have been too in the zone for much of this outing and only struck out a pair. The 24-year-old rookie’s season ends in disappointment, but it’s definitely worth noting how good he was in the regular season and that dominant Game 3 outing against Boston. He’ll be someone worth drafting in all eligible formats this spring.

The Yankees have been going with six lefties against most right-handers, but Aaron Boone wanted more balance with the Jays throwing a bullpen game tonight. Of course, there’s still no room for switch-hitter Jasson Domínguez, who apparently returned to his home planet weeks ago.

Schlittler draws the starting assignment in another pivotal moment for New York as he’ll attempt to force a winner-take-all Game 5. The 24-year-old rookie authored a masterful performance last week in his postseason debut, striking out 12 over eight shutout innings to send the division-rival Red Sox home for the winter.

Judge finally delivered the kind of signature postseason moment every superstar is supposed to have when he connected for a game-tying homer off Blue Jays reliever Louis Varland in the fourth after scalding an RBI double the inning before. The 32-year-old generational talent’s first homer of the postseason ignited a comeback win and kept New York’s playoff hopes alive after dropping the first two games of the best-of-five series. The division rivals will square off in Game 4 on Wednesday evening at Yankee Stadium. It’ll be rookie Cam Schlittler taking the ball for the Pinstripes with Toronto likely rolling with a bullpen game.
