Jokić’s injury is devastating for fantasy managers, as the No. 1 player in fantasy hoops was on an incredible tear. The silver lining is that he avoided a more serious injury, but his absence will cause a monumental hole in Denver’s lineup. Jonas Valančiūnas should get the nod as starting center, but he won’t be able to replicate Joker’s elite playmaking abilities. Jamal Murray should pick up the slack as a facilitator and scorer, while guys like Tim Hardaway Jr. and Bruce Brown should be leaned on more as well. All three of Valančiūnas, THJ and Brown are worth picking up, though it’s still unclear what Denver will look like without its three-time MVP.

Williams continues to come off the bench, but for the second time in three games, he played more than starting point guard Ryan Nembhard. After logging 30 minutes on Christmas Day, Williams hit that number on Monday. And he started the third quarter in place of Nembhard, who went scoreless with two rebounds and six assists in 17 minutes. Williams’ fantasy value would be more appealing if he were the starter, but it has been challenging for many managers to make sense of the Mavericks’ point guard rotation.

While Flagg recorded a complete stat line in Portland, he struggled to provide consistent scoring. There were brief periods when he showed why he currently leads all rookies in scoring, but Flagg could not get untracked. And the shooting struggles may have led him to attempt only three shots in the fourth quarter, all misses. With Anthony Davis out due to a groin injury, there’s room for Flagg to be more assertive offensively, and the Mavericks need him to be. He’ll look to bounce back when the Mavericks host Philadelphia on Thursday.

Making a second straight start in place of the injured Anthony Davis, Gafford finished Monday’s defeat with one of his best stat lines of the season. In addition to recording his second double-double, the Mavericks’ center was responsible for four defensive contributions, his best output since December 20 against the 76ers. Gafford did take a quick trip to the locker room during Monday’s game, but the 26 minutes played were the most for him since November 24. Hopefully, Monday’s performance serves as a catalyst for a player who has offered 11th-round fantasy value this season.

Having scored 14 points in the first half of Monday’s game, Christie went scoreless in the third quarter, shooting 0-of-2 from the field. The Mavericks guard rebounded nicely in the fourth, scoring 11 points on 4-of-4 shooting to help Dallas claw its way back into the game. The 25 points were a season-high for Christie, who matched his previous high with five three-pointers. While starting gives him a higher fantasy ceiling, that’s likely to change once Anthony Davis is cleared to return from a groin injury.

Hardaway has scored at least 16 points in five straight games, moving into the starting lineup for the last four. With Nikola Jokić injuring his left knee, the Nuggets played the second half without four starters. While the overall minutes tally for Valančiūnas was modest, he played 11 of those 16 minutes after halftime. The Nuggets were without Nikola Jokić, who suffered a left knee injury during the final seconds of the first half. After hyperextending his left knee late in the second quarter of Monday’s game, Jokić has officially been ruled out. While it’s unlikely to be another update from the team before the center is further examined by team doctors, an extended absence would have a seismic impact on the Nuggets’ rotation and fantasy basketball. Jonas Valančiūnas entered the lineup to begin the third quarter, and he would be the replacement in the starting five if Jokić misses time. On the heels of a historic 56-point, 16-rebound, 15-assist triple-double earlier this week against the Timberwolves, Jokić finished the first half just three assists shy of a triple-double and accomplished the feat by the end of the third quarter. The 30-year-old generational talent reached the 30-point plateau for the 13th time with a floater in the final two minutes. He sank a pair of free throws in the final seconds to put Denver ahead momentarily in the back-and-forth affair. Jokić leads the NBA in rebounds (12.4) and assists (11.1) and ranks fifth in scoring (29.9) through 31 games. Unreal. The Nuggets are back in action on Monday when they open a four-game week on the road against the Heat.

He hit a driving floater with 37 seconds left to put Denver back in front but wound up missing a fadeaway at the buzzer. The 28-year-old guard has been excellent of late, averaging 28.6 points, 4.1 rebounds, 6.7 assists, 0.7 assists and 0.1 blocks across seven games over the past two weeks, delivering second-round fantasy value during that span.

Thompson has made at least four three-pointers in two of his last three outings. For the second straight game, Nembhard was limited to 17 minutes. However, unlike Thursday, the Mavericks did not have Brandon Williams. Naji Marshall (11/2/1/1 with one three-pointer in 26 minutes) replaced the rookie in the lineup to begin the third quarter, and there lies the risk in rostering Nembhard. With no Anthony Davis in the Mavericks’ lineup, there will be room for Washington to do a bit more offensively. On Saturday, he took as many shots as Cooper Flagg. With Anthony Davis (groin) out, there’s even more room for Flagg to exert his influence on the offensive end of the floor. That may have made Saturday’s performance somewhat disappointing for fantasy managers, even with the rookie scoring 23 points while shooting over 50 percent from the field. Flagg only attempted 13 shots on the day after putting up 21 in each of his two previous outings. That isn’t all on the rookie, of course, but there should not be games in which Max Christie (12 attempts) puts up almost as many shots as Flagg. After totaling 13 points on 4-of-12 shooting in Dallas’ Monday/Tuesday back-to-back, Williams rebounded with his best performances of the season. Starter Ryan Nembhard (four points, one rebound and two assists in 17 minutes) struggled, resulting in more playing time for Williams. Washington was back in the Mavericks’ lineup after sitting out Tuesday’s win over the Nuggets, and he made up for lost time with his fourth double-double of the season. All that his stat line was missing on Thursday was a three-pointer, a somewhat surprising development since he averages 1.5 per game on the season. The good news is that Marshall reached double figures for the tenth consecutive game. The bad is that the stat line was meager outside of points and rebounds. And the limited production is why Marshall is ranked just outside the top-100 over the last two weeks. If Anthony Davis (groin) misses time, the Mavericks are going to need even more from Marshall. For that reason, he’s worth holding onto if you’ve been rostering him.

Hardaway has put together back-to-back strong games off the bench.
