Castle has been able to score at a decent rate and provide his fair share of assists this season, but he has had two glaring issues: his free throw percentage and turnovers. Through four games, he is shooting 57.1 percent from the line on 8.8 attempts per game and is averaging 6.3 turnovers per game. Those two issues have tanked his value in category leagues, even though he has been decent in other categories. He’ll look to have a more efficient performance against the Heat on Thursday.

Wemby wasn’t able to provide his usual dominant dose of blocks, and he didn’t attempt a three-pointer, but that didn’t stop him from having an insane night in the box score. He was perfect at the line and only missed one shot, which was great to see after he made less than 50 percent of his shots and missed five free throws on Sunday. Davis recorded his second straight double-double, but it simply wasn’t enough as Oklahoma City’s smothering defense limited Dallas to just 37 percent from the floor and only 94 points. They shot just 30 percent (12-of-39) from three-point range in the low-scoring affair.

Flagg got his welcome to the NBA moment against the defending champion Thunder as he missed eight of his nine shots from the floor and Dallas failed to break the century mark. The 18-year-old prodigy may not have a worse game over the remainder of his rookie season as his all-around game should enable him to contribute as a playmaker even when his shot isn’t falling. There will be brighter days ahead for Flagg — and his fantasy managers — as he continues to adjust to life in the NBA. He became the fifth-youngest player in league history to score 20 or more points when he poured in 22 during Sunday’s win over the Raptors. Flagg had a shoulder wrap on when he was on the bench throughout the night. He expects to get scans on his left shoulder, but he expects to be available against the Pacers on Wednesday.

Christie has played at least 26 minutes in each of Dallas’ three games, with Sunday’s effort being his most productive. His 17 points were one shy of his total in the first two contests, and the Mavericks’ reserves combined to score 61 points against the Raptors. Christie still isn’t in a position where he can provide reliable fantasy value, as his minutes are dependent upon starter Klay Thompson. Dallas plays three games during Week 2, starting with the Thunder on Monday.

After playing 24 minutes in the Mavericks’ first two games, including nine in Friday’s loss to the Wizards, Russell figured more prominently in the rotation on Sunday. He took advantage of the opportunity, joining Anthony Davis and Cooper Flagg as the Mavericks’ 20-point scorers. With Kyrie Irving (knee) out, Russell is the best healthy point guard on the roster. While there’s a desire to have the ball in Flagg’s hands as a playmaker, that should not mean Russell gets bumped to the fringe of the rotation. Sunday’s effort should ensure he continues to play quality minutes after seeing limited time in the first two games.

After struggling in his first official NBA game, Flagg has looked more comfortable in his last two. Sunday’s outing was the best for the rookie, who shot over 50 percent from the field. What may have helped was that point guard D’Angelo Russell got more rotation minutes, which helped lighten the playmaking workload the Mavericks have asked Flagg to shoulder. Flagg will have the occasional rough night given the role and lack of NBA experience. However, more nights should look like Sunday as he gets better acclimated to the pro game.

Davis has opened the season with three consecutive double-doubles. The lone negative on Sunday was his foul shooting, with the Mavericks forward/center making just three of his eight attempts. Through three games, Davis is 18-of-26 from the foul line, which works out to 69.2 percent. He is a career 79.4 percent shooter from the stripe, so fantasy managers should not be concerned about this category long-term. Davis and the Mavericks play three games during Week 2, starting with the Thunder on Monday.

After shooting 3-of-12 from the field in Friday’s loss to the Pelicans, Harper rebounded fantastically on Sunday. The rookie was highly efficient as a scorer and playmaker, shooting over 50 percent from the field and not committing a turnover. Harper’s ability to run the show efficiently came in handy against the Nets, as starter Stephon Castle (13/6/3) committed five turnovers. Johnson’s fantasy value has been limited due to his inability to consistently provide value outside of points and rebounds. While he had a good afternoon shooting the basketball and was a factor on the glass, the limited assists and steals are why Johnson remains a deep-league option at best. Having totaled 12 points in San Antonio’s first two games, Champagnie contributed a baker’s dozen against the Nets. He certainly has fans within the Spurs organization, and with good reason. Champagnie’s a good defender who can contribute solid perimeter shooting. He shot 3-of-4 from beyond the arc on Sunday, helping to compensate for Harrison Barnes (4/3/1) missing all five of his attempts. Wembanyama’s percentages on the final game day of Week 1 weren’t great, but that doesn’t matter much given the robust stat line. Once again, he filled out the stat sheet, including nine “stocks,” to help the Spurs avoid losing a game they led by as much as 26 before the Nets rallied. Even on nights when his shots aren’t falling at a high rate, Wembanyama will provide elite value because of his abilities as a rebounder and defender. He’s the first player in NBA history to tally at least 100 points and 15 blocks through a team’s first three games. Most of this stat line was fine for Washington. Three defensive stats, one rebound away from a double-double, efficient shooting. However, he fell one turnover shy of matching his career-high, which is never a benchmark anyone wants to approach. Mavericks head coach Jason Kidd’s decision to start Cooper Flagg at point guard resulted in Washington moving into the starting lineup as part of a “jumbo” lineup. He was productive, finishing a steal shy of a complete stat line. Washington showed that he can provide solid fantasy value when allowed to start, but it’s fair to wonder how long that will last. Dallas didn’t just lose Wednesday’s game; it lost by 33 points. And there were clear signs that the team needed a traditional point guard on the floor to help the offense run smoothly. Davis recorded a solid stat line in Wednesday’s season opener, even if the field-goal percentage was lower than many hoped. Wednesday’s game included the top two picks in June’s draft. However, due to his thumb injury and being on a roster with the last two Rookie of the Year winners, Harper flew under the radar in Dallas. He had a solid night shooting the basketball, but the rookie was responsible for twice as many turnovers as assists and landed in foul trouble. While Victor Wembanyama received most of the attention in the aftermath of San Antonio’s 125-92 victory, and with good reason, Castle’s night was encouraging. Starting at point guard for the injured De’Aaron Fox, the second-year guard shot the ball well from the field and was a blocked shot shy of a complete stat line. With the last two Rookie of the Year award winners and this season’s presumed favorite to win the floor on the court, all eyes were on American Airlines Arena. Wembanyama stole the show, as the Mavericks had no answer for him defensively. Whether it was above the rim, in the mid-range or from beyond the arc, Wemby did what he wanted Wednesday night, finishing with a franchise record for points in a season opener. The 7-foot-4 phenom played 30 minutes before exiting with just under five minutes remaining, and his workload should increase as he gets further removed from the injury that ended his 2024-25 season in February.
