VanVleet has missed Houston’s last four games since aggravating a strained right ankle that sidelined him for a month. With Amen Thompson (ankle) already out, VanVleet can fill that void if allowed to play. If he doesn’t play, the Rockets may be forced to call on Aaron Holiday to serve as the starting point guard.

While the results of Thompson’s MRI on his left ankle are unknown, what is known is that he will not play on Monday. With Fred VanVleet (ankle) questionable, he can slide into the spot left vacant by Thompson if allowed to play. However, if VanVleet is also out, Aaron Holiday would be in line for more minutes, potentially as a starter.

Thompson fell just shy of recording a triple-double with 15 points, nine rebounds and 11 assists prior to suffering an apparent left ankle injury during the fourth quarter of Saturday’s lopsided win over the Pelicans. He was spotted in the postgame locker room in a walking boot and exited the arena on crutches. There should be an update on his status at some point prior to Monday’s showdown against the Magic, but it looks like he’s going to wind up missing some time. Fantasy managers should consider him day-to-day for the moment.

Thompson continues to shine as one of the most versatile players in the Association. Houston’s point forward has stuffed the stat sheet with regularity since becoming a full-time starter on January 5. He landed awkwardly in the fourth quarter and limped to the locker room, which puts his status for Monday’s matchup with Orlando in question. Fantasy managers should keep an eye on his status ahead of that contest.

Valanciunas has now had at least 14 points and at least nine rebounds in four straight games. The 32-year-old center continues to produce at a high level while Domantas Sabonis is out. DeRozan was just one rebound and three assists away from a triple-double. The 35-year-old small forward is seeing increased usage with Domantas Sabonis (hamstring) out. LaVine has been on an absolute scoring tear recently and it continued against the Spurs on Friday. While the Kings gave up De’Aaron Fox in a multi-team trade before the trade deadline, they acquired LaVine in the deal. The 29-year-old shooting guard outscored Fox 36 to 16 in the Kings’ 18-point victory. LaVine has shot over 50 percent from the field in seven of 13 games since being acquired by Sacramento. It would hardly be surprising if LaVine is a top-50 or better fantasy option over the rest of the season.

Sengun led his team in scoring and assists and finished with a +15 while on the court. He shot an efficient 11-of-14 from the floor and made meaningful contributions in multiple categories. Sengun was one of three starters to score 20 points, along with Amen Thompson (21) and Tari Eason (20), and the trio picked up the slack for Jalen Green, who finished with just nine points on 10 shot attempts.

Eason started this one in place of Jabari Smith Jr., and both were impactful. Smith Jr. logged 28 minutes off the bench and finished with a 16/5/1 line to go with a block and a pair of three-pointers. Eason, however, was far superior from a fantasy standpoint as he stuffed the stat sheet and racked up valuable steals and three-pointers while contributing across the board. Eason is capable of posting similar lines every time he’s on the court, so make sure you pick him up if he’s still on your waiver wire. Eason is only rostered in 43% of Yahoo! leagues, but that percentage is sure to climb following this stellar, two-way performance.

Thompson has played 40 minutes or more in his last two appearances, possibly a byproduct of the Rockets losing Fred VanVleet to an aggravation of the ankle strain that sidelined him for a month. Amen is effectively the starting point guard when VanVleet is out, with Alperen Sengun also taking on more playmaking responsibilities. Add in the rebounding and defensive ability, and Thompson doesn’t need to do much scoring to provide excellent fantasy value. Since the All-Star break, he has provided top-40 value in nine-cat formats.

Eason was one of the mainstays in the Rockets rotation who returned to action on Tuesday, and he recorded his fourth double-double of the season. Even with the limited double-double tally, production has rarely been an issue for the third-year forward. Availability has been the problem, with Eason still not cleared to play both games of back-to-backs. The Rockets won’t play another back-to-back during Week 18, but they do have one during Week 19, which isn’t good for those who have Eason rostered.

Sengun made up for lost time after sitting out Monday’s loss to the Thunder, leading the Rockets in scoring for the third time in the last four games. However, he has only been an 11th-round player in eight-cat formats over the past three weeks. Foul shooting (65.6 percent) and limited defensive production are the reasons for the recent downturn in Sengun’s fantasy value. Business as usual for LaVine, who leads the Kings in scoring (23.8) and triples (4.0) across the last five games. He’s been a top-50 fantasy option in that span, and he should continue to post solid numbers as one of the team’s go-to playmakers on offense.

After Fred VanVleet’s return from a strained ankle pushed Smith to the bench on Saturday, he was back in the starting lineup Monday night. Smith didn’t have a great night against the Thunder, shooting 5-of-14 from the field, but his rebounding production was solid. Whitmore was excellent on Monday, matching his career-high with 27 points and recording his second double-double of the season. The Rockets were down four starters on Monday, so ample rotation minutes (and a place in the starting lineup) were available to Whitmore. Give him credit for taking advantage of the opportunity. Sheppard was tabbed to make his first start on Monday with the Rockets down four starters. The matchup wasn’t easy, but the rookie had a good night in Oklahoma City. Not only were the 25 points a season-high, but this was also Sheppard’s first 20-point game. Add in the complete stat line, and this was a profitable night for the few who willingly streamed Sheppard. Enter Labissiere, who was in training camp with the Kings and has been playing for their G League affiliate. Ellis continues to be the primary reserve option for Sacramento, and he did the most with just 27 minutes on Saturday. The defensive maestro set a new career-high with five steals to help the Kings win their third straight game. Ellis has been incredibly efficient on offense recently and has shot 10-of-12 from the floor during this winning streak. Valanciunas ended up starting the second half and playing an extended role in Saturday’s win because of Domantas Sabonis’ early exit. Sabonis was ruled out with a hamstring injury that he suffered a little over a minute into the game. Valanciunas ended up playing 29 minutes and provided an excellent stat line. Sabonis could certainly miss multiple games, which makes Valanciunas an elite streaming option, especially with a four-game week coming up for the Kings. Valanciunas did not require much time to record a solid stat line on Wednesday, playing just 14 minutes off the bench. While that is impressive, the playing time and who he’s backing up (Domantas Sabonis) is why JV is not as valuable to fantasy managers in Sacramento as he was in Washington. Sabonis played 34 minutes, finishing with 12 points, nine rebounds, six assists, one steal and one blocked shot. Two nights removed from scoring a season-high 42 points in a rout of the Hornets, LaVine scored a leisurely 22 on Wednesday. With the additions of DeMar DeRozan and (just before the trade deadline) Zach LaVine, no Kings player took a more significant hit to their fantasy value than Murray. That made Wednesday’s performance so much fun, as Murray established a new season-high with 26 points. While he remains rostered in 86 percent of Yahoo! leagues, and with good reasons, this was Murray’s first 20-point game since November 24 and his fourth of the season.
