The 33rd overall pick of the Bucks in the 2024 draft, Smith is back in the NBA after appearing in 19 games for the G League’s Rio Grande Valley Vipers this season. Adding him to the roster gives Dallas a little more depth in the frontcourt, although this move is not likely to affect fantasy basketball. To free up a two-way slot for Smith, the Mavericks have waived Miles Kelly.

In the aftermath of the Mavericks agreeing to waive point guard Tyus Jones so he could explore joining a contender, some wondered whether Middleton would take the same approach. However, Stein reported that the veteran forward is expected to finish the season in Dallas. Middleton’s contract status may have influenced the decision, as he would lose his Bird rights if waived. He’s currently playing solid minutes, but that could change later in the season as the Mavericks focus on the future.
