After injuring his groin during an April 9 game against Houston, Batum did not play in the Clippers’ final two regular-season games. Wednesday’s practice was the team’s first time on the court since their overtime win over the Warriors on Sunday, and Batum was among the participants. The veteran forward, who will reportedly be re-evaluated on Wednesday, was a full participant in the session, which bodes well for Batum. The Clippers won’t begin their first-round series against the Nuggets until Saturday, so there’s still time for Batum to recover from his injury.

Batum missed the Clippers’ final two regular-season games after injuring his groin on Wednesday, not even traveling up the coast for matchups with the Kings and Warriors. The team did not practice on Tuesday, beginning their preparations for the Nuggets with film study. Batum does not provide consistent value on the offensive end of the floor, but his defensive ability makes him an important player off the bench.

Harden and the Clippers did what many did not believe them capable of before the season began, avoiding the play-in tournament due to their win in San Francisco. The Beard finished a game with at least 30 points and 10 assists for the 106th time in his career, tied for second-most in league history. Due to Sunday’s victory, the Clippers will be the fifth seed in the West, and they’ll face Denver in the first round.

Zubac, one of the most improved players in the NBA this season, ended his regular season with another stellar performance. He’s recorded his 59th double-double and 15th in as many games. Thanks to their win over the Warriors, the Clippers will be the fifth seed in the West, with Denver being their first-round opponent. To say the matchup with Nikola Jokic will be challenging for Zubac would be an understatement, but he has been excellent this season.

Leonard was outstanding on Sunday, as the Clippers’ overtime victory gave the team the fifth seed in the West. His workload was just as encouraging as Leonard’s production, as he played 47 of 53 minutes without issues. The Clippers avoiding the play-in tournament gets their stars additional time off ahead of next weekend’s Game 1 in Denver, which could be critical for Leonard. After years of struggling with injuries, he appears to be in his best form.

Head coach Ime Udoka opted to treat this game as a dress rehearsal for the playoffs, though he ended up pulling the plug in the second half once things got out of hand. Still, 26 minutes was enough time for Thompson to turn in a full stat line. He’ll be playing in his first playoffs starting next weekend for the No. 2 seed Rockets in what has been an impressive breakout season for the entire team. Thompson’s progression has been right at the center of it, and he should shine in the playoffs.

Thankfully, this was a meaningless game for the Rockets. Though head coach Ime Udoka treated it like any other game, Houston had already clinched the second seed in the West. Green played more than he did in each of their last two games, as he only played 15 minutes in each of those and was up to 21 minutes this afternoon. However, he did even less scoring on Sunday and set a new season-low for points. Green will make his playoff debut next weekend, though their matchup will depend on who makes it out of the Play-In Tournament.

Sheppard made a second straight start on Friday, as the Rockets once again rested most of their starters. Houston has secured the two-seed in the West for next week’s playoffs, resulting in players like Sheppard seeing more action. The rookie guard has recorded nine assists and seven turnovers in his two starts. The assist-to-turnover ratio isn’t great, but Sheppard has hit double figures in scoring in both games. Once again, the Rockets decided to rest four starters, and Jalen Green (7/4/3/1 with one three-pointer) was shut down at halftime. Having secured the two-seed in the West, the Rockets have prioritized rest for their key players. The approach has freed additional minutes for Whitmore, who could not earn consistent playing time this season. The former first-round pick was rolling on Friday, shooting well over 50 percent from the field and recording a career-high point total. Harden recorded the 80th triple-double of his career and made a few big plays late to help the Clippers secure the win. He also had a few rough plays down the stretch that nearly cost them, including two missed free throws and a turnover that gave the Kings the ball with two seconds left and a chance to win. Green has scored 21 points or more in seven of his last eight appearances, with Houston’s March 31 loss to the Lakers being the exception. Saturday’s game went as well as the Clippers could have hoped regarding Leonard. For the first time this season, he played both games of a back-to-back.
