Despite originally being questionable for Thursday’s game, Sengun will begin the new year in the Rockets’ lineup. His return from a two-game absence will move Steven Adams back to the bench. Sengun is averaging 22.7/9.4/6.8 splits this season and has been one of the better centers from a fantasy basketball perspective. He’ll join Kevin Durant, Tari Eason, Amen Thompson and Jabari Smith Jr. in the starting lineup.

This is a tough injury for Thiero, who returned from a separate knee injury earlier this season only to get injured again. While he wasn’t getting much playing time so far, there might’ve been a chance for him to play given the Lakers’ other injuries. Obviously, that’s off the table now. Thiero will be re-evaluated in four weeks, though his absence won’t impact fantasy basketball.

However, if Şengün returns, Adams’ streaming value will be eliminated. With Rui Hachimura sidelined by a calf injury, LaRavia made his tenth start of the season on Tuesday. He didn’t have a great night shooting the basketball, but the Lakers forward did record four steals and one blocked shot in 38 minutes on the floor. Those stats are encouraging for fantasy managers, especially since Hachimura is expected to miss multiple games. LaRavia is rostered in 10 percent of Yahoo! leagues, so he won’t be too hard to find on the waiver wire.

LeBron’s 41st birthday was not a joyous occasion for the Lakers’ star, as the Pistons took control in the third quarter and won with relative ease. Simply put, Detroit did on Tuesday night what “Father Time” has failed to do to the future Hall of Fame forward. In addition to the poor shooting, James was responsible for five turnovers, with only Luka Dončić committing more (eight). He and the Lakers will look to bounce back when they host the Grizzlies on Friday and Sunday.

While fantasy managers will likely be pleased with Dončić recording another 30-point double-double, that did not tell the whole story of his night. There were a few defensive lapses, and the Lakers’ point guard compounded those errors by committing eight turnovers. With Austin Reaves (calf) out for at least four weeks, Dončić and the Lakers have an extremely slim margin for error. They were able to hang around until the second half of the third quarter, with the Pistons’ takeover leading to Dončić and the other starters watching the final four minutes from the bench. The Lakers end Week 11 with games against the Grizzlies on Friday and Sunday.

Due to a sore right calf, Hachimura did not practice on Monday and was ruled out for Tuesday’s game against the Pistons. Unfortunately, that won’t be the only game he misses, as the forward is expected to miss about one week, according to his head coach. Thompson’s shooting remains inconsistent. The 22-year-old point guard’s 20 points were just the second time he’s had at least 20 points in his last six games. Lakers head coach JJ Redick said before Sunday’s game that Smith’s role would expand as the team moved forward without Austin Reaves, who is sidelined with a calf injury. The two-way contract guard playing 24 minutes was unsurprising, but the output certainly was. Smith notched his second 20-point game as a Laker, finishing four points shy of his season-high. Fantasy managers shouldn’t hop onto the Smith bandwagon yet, but they should watch him in Tuesday’s game against the Pistons.

As was the case in Thursday’s loss to the Rockets, James only attempted 13 shots on Sunday despite Austin Reaves (calf) being unavailable. The difference was that he made 11 against the Kings, and the final stat line only lacked a blocked shot. How much James can help the Lakers defensively at this stage in his career is up for debate, but the team will accept scoring efficiency on par with Sunday’s performance as well. Over the past two weeks, James has provided top-40 per-game value in eight- and nine-cat formats.

With Houston blowing Saturday’s game open during the second and third quarters, there were a few more minutes available to Sheppard. Rostered in 47 percent of Yahoo! leagues, Smith has provided sixth-round per-game value in nine-cat formats over the past two weeks. While there is certainly concern about how Tari Eason’s return may affect his value, Smith was solid in wins over the Lakers and Cavaliers to end Week 10. Also, Eason (nine points, six rebounds, two steals, one block and two three-pointers in 21 minutes) will remain limited to 25 minutes, and back-to-backs remain off the board for the foreseeable future. For that reason, Smith’s fantasy value may be protected for the time being.

The final score of 117-100 does not tell the whole story, as the Rockets led by more than 30 at one point in the second half. For that reason, Durant was not on the floor as much as fantasy managers would have hoped, especially after scoring 23 points in the first half. Over the past two weeks, the future Hall of Fame forward has provided top-10 per-game value in eight- and nine-cat formats. Back in the Lakers’ lineup after missing two games with a groin injury, Hachimura offered little value in his 28 minutes. While the three-pointers weren’t falling, with the Rockets’ forward shooting 1-of-5, he did a little bit of everything else.
