Yet to appear in a game with the Lakers this season, James was assigned to the franchise’s G League affiliate in South Bay. LeBron, who turns 41 next month, is set for his first full practice and will even play 5-on-5, according to Charania. When he’ll make his debut is still unclear, but going on what equates to a minor league rehab assignment marks a step towards James’ ultimate return to the court. Luka Dončić and Austin Reaves will continue to run the show for the Lakers until LeBron is back.

Vassell exited Monday’s win over the Spurs with 6:37 remaining in the third quarter and did not return. The good news is that he is not on the injury report for Wednesday’s game, so Vassell will occupy his usual place in the starting lineup. If there are any issues, Julian Champagnie and Keldon Johnson will figure more prominently in the Spurs’ rotation.

“French Vanilla,” the nickname given to the tandem of Kornet and Victor Wembanyama, is back. The former returned to the Spurs’ rotation after missing seven games with ankle and shoulder injuries, and he looked sharp. Kornet played 20 minutes off the bench and was the only Spurs reserve to finish with a positive plus/minus. What that stat never tells the whole story of a player’s impact, the Spurs are much better when Kornet is available. His return meant less playing time for Kelly Olynyk, who accounted for two assists in four minutes of action.

After committing at least five turnovers in each of San Antonio’s first four games, Castle has done a better job of valuing the basketball recently. And over his last two games, the second-year guard has recorded 25 assists and three turnovers. Castle has looked good running the show alongside De’Aaron Fox, who has taken on more scoring responsibilities since returning to the court. Closing in on top-100 value in nine-cat formats for the season, Castle has been a top-20 player over the past two weeks according to Basketball Monster.

While Fox had a good night shooting the basketball, the efficiency took a hit due to his committing six turnovers. However, a little rust is unsurprising, given the amount of time he missed due to injury. Fox has totaled 45 points in his two appearances, shooting 17-of-28 from the field, and he only had two turnovers in his debut on Saturday. Thus far, the positives have outweighed the negatives for Fox, who’s establishing better on-court chemistry with Victor Wembanyama and Stephon Castle.

Wemby was at his best when the Spurs needed him to be, hitting multiple shots in crunch time to help San Antonio rally for the win. He shot 6-of-8 from the field in the fourth quarter, including two three-pointers in the game’s final minute, the second of which gave San Antonio a 117-114 lead that it would not relinquish. After struggling offensively in Week 3, Wembanyama has gotten his Week 4 off to an excellent start.

Unfortunately, Vassell’s night ended with 6:37 remaining in the third quarter due to a migraine headache. Given the limited production in 21 minutes before his exit, the Spurs wing may have been trying to play through the pain before having to leave. Julian Champagnie (zero points, two rebounds, one assist and three steals) replaced Vassell at the time and may return to the starting lineup if he can’t play against the Warriors on Wednesday. Keldon Johnson (10/7/1/1 in 19 minutes) is another player whose role may expand if Vassell misses time, but his fantasy ceiling is limited coming off the bench.

While Luka Dončić, Austin Reaves and Rui Hachimura handled most of the scoring on Monday, Smart was a pest defensively. The veteran guard recorded seven steals, one shy of his career-high, while also providing solid value in the assist and three-point categories. Rostered in seven percent of Yahoo! leagues, Smart is closing in on top-100 value in nine-cat formats. While LeBron James (sciatica) is making progress in his recovery, streaming Smart in deep leagues for the final three games of the Lakers’ road trip wouldn’t be a bad idea.

After scoring a season-low eight points in Saturday’s loss to the Hawks, Hachimura rebounded nicely in Charlotte. While the return of Austin Reaves from a groin injury knocked the forward down a peg in the offensive pecking order, Rui benefited from the improved spacing. The result was his third 20-point game of the season, with Hachimura shooting 75 percent from the field and 100 percent from three. Rostered in 27 percent of Yahoo! leagues, he’s providing 10th-round value in nine-cat formats.

Back in the Lakers’ lineup after missing three games with a groin injury, Reaves only played 29 minutes. While he didn’t have a great night from deep, making just two of his 10 three-point attempts, the overall production was fine for a player whose minutes were somewhat restricted. Reaves and the Lakers have three more games on the schedule before the end of their road trip, starting with the Thunder on Wednesday. The concern for fantasy managers is the Friday/Saturday back-to-back against the Pelicans and Bucks.

Dončić put on a show Monday night, dropping 38 points on excellent percentages. Even better for fantasy managers was that he kept the turnovers in check, only committing two. Monday’s game was the first for the tandem of Dončić and Austin Reaves since November 2, as the latter missed three games with a groin injury. They combined to score 62 points, providing the output that fantasy managers have come to expect with LeBron James (sciatica) out of the lineup. Dončić and the Lakers should be challenged more on Wednesday when they visit the reigning champion Thunder.

Suiting up for the first time this season, Fox had no issues getting his shot to fall. He scored 15 points in the second quarter alone and led the Spurs in scoring to help them move to 7-2. Head coach Mitch Johnson said Fox wouldn’t have a minutes restriction, and he ended up logging 30 minutes. That should increase as he logs more games, and they don’t have a back-to-back until December, which should help Fox be available for the rest of the month.

With De’Aaron Fox (hamstring) available for the first time this season, Castle didn’t take the expected backseat. He accounted for nearly half of the Spurs’ assists, while Fox only had three dimes. Castle also played 35 minutes. If the plan is to take advantage of Fox’s scoring ability and keep him fresh by allowing Castle to dominate the ball, then both guards can thrive in fantasy hoops. It’s only one game, but it seems like Castle isn’t going to take a hit in production.

Though he was elite to start the season, Wemby’s last few games have been rough. Over the last four games, he has shot just 39.7 percent from the floor while averaging 17 points, 10.8 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 1.0 steal and 2.5 blocks per game. Of course, for most players, those are strong numbers. But it’s the inefficiency that has torn down his recent production; Wemby is also averaging five turnovers during this four-game stretch. Vanderbilt hasn’t been much of a producer in the box score this season, but he was able to have a productive night off the bench in this game. In what was a bad loss for the Lakers, LaRavia, who remained a starter in place of Austin Reaves (groin), was able to have a solid night. LaRavia has been productive as a starter this season, and he’ll continue to play a large role for Los Angeles for the rest of the year. Prior to the game, head coach JJ Redick said that Reaves is expected to be back on this five-game road trip, with this game in Atlanta kicking that off. Castle landed his first double-double of the season on Friday, posting a new season-high in assists in the victory. Poor shooting from beyond the arc hurt his overall scoring efficiency against the Rockets, but his accuracy inside the arc, combined with solid production from the free throw line, allowed the young point guard to finish in double figures as a scorer for the eighth straight time to begin the season.
