After Nikola Jovic started in the season opener, coach Erik Spoelstra will make the change by bumping up Ware, who was only on the floor when Adebayo wasn’t during the season opener. It’s unclear if this is a permanent change, since Ware never started over Jovic during the preseason. This situation is worth monitoring moving forward.

KCP was initially listed as questionable, but he’ll be available to start in his usual spot. That means Cedric Coward will remain in a reserve role after having a productive debut. KCP had 15 points in 31 minutes as a starter on Wednesday.

Morant was upgraded from questionable and will make his second start in as many games on Friday evening. The superstar guard had dealt with a lingering ankle injury coming out of the preseason, but suited up for the regular-season opener anyway and proceeded to tally 35 points in a win against the Pelicans. He’ll have a chance to put together consecutive strong performances to begin the season

KCP got the start in the season opener, but there is a chance he is sidelined for his second game in Memphis. If that happens, rookie Cedric Coward would have a chance to slide into the starting lineup. Coward, who posted a 14/3/1/2/1 line in his debut, would be an enticing streaming option if KCP is out.

Morant is back on the injury report after injuring his ankle during the preseason. If something changes and he isn’t able to suit up for this game, Javon Small and Cam Spencer will likely split the point guard duties, with Small getting the starting nod.

This confirms a report from Pablo Torre and his podcast “Pablo Torre Finds Out.” Rozier had been connected to an ongoing investigation into illegal gambling on NBA games that also included Malik Beasley and other former players. However, the assumption had been that Rozier’s name was cleared and he had participated in training camp with the Heat. Instead, it now appears that Rozier could be charged and face suspension and/or jail time. The Department of Justice will have a press conference at 10 am ET on Thursday to announce all of the arrests and provide further information on potential consequences.

All eight of Wells’ shot attempts were from beyond the arc Wednesday night, which is somewhat surprising given the Grizzlies’ need to account for the offense lost when Desmond Bane was traded to Orlando. As a rookie, Wells had a three-point rate of 58 percent, so spending most of his time on the perimeter isn’t a departure from the norm. Hopefully, he’ll be more aggressive on offense as the season progresses, because the Grizzlies will need him to be.

Coward was impressive in his debut, especially defensively. The rookie was a pest on that end of the floor, and the three “stocks” don’t tell the entire story. Add in a highly efficient scoring effort, and the Grizzlies and fantasy managers were likely encouraged by what they saw. Coward’s perimeter shot is a work in progress, but that’s due to him returning from a torn rotator cuff rather than an inability to shoot. It would be unsurprising if Coward could turn his perimeter shot into a credible weapon down the line.

Jackson did have to deal with some foul trouble, but that did not prevent him from putting up a big number in the blocks category. The six rejections were two shy of his career-high, and JJJ was productive as a rebounder and scorer. The Grizzlies started Jock Landale (10 points, four rebounds, two blocks and one three-pointer) at the five, and he logged 25 minutes, while Santi Aldama (5/6/2/1/2) played 24 off the bench. Of the two, Aldama is the superior fantasy option while the Grizzlies await Edey’s return. Regardless of what Aldama and Landale do, Jackson will lead the way.

Based on his performance Wednesday night, Morant didn’t seem negatively impacted by not playing during the preseason. The Grizzlies guard recorded excellent percentages and only committed two turnovers. Morant played 29 minutes, with the Grizzlies exercising some caution with his workload, but that didn’t prevent him from producing a masterclass. Javon Small played the other 19 minutes at point guard, going scoreless with three assists and one blocked shot. As Morant shakes off the rust, Small’s minutes will likely decrease.

Mitchell filled in spectacularly for Tyler Herro (ankle) on Wednesday against the Magic. While no one was expecting the 27-year-old point guard to replace Herro, Mitchell was excellent on the offensive end. He had 16 points on 15 attempts and dropped 12 assists. Mitchell is absolutely on the streaming radar while Herro is out after a game like this.

Powell’s 28 points were a game-high against the Magic on Wednesday. Much like last year, when the 32-year-old shooting guard put up top scoring numbers filling in for Kawhi Leonard on the Clippers, Powell’s great night was ultimately made possible by Tyler Herro (ankle) missing the game. While Herro is out, Powell is easily the Heat’s best scoring option so there could be more of these games in the future.

After missing the entire preseason with a sprained ankle, Morant is in the starting lineup for Wednesday’s opener. Also in the lineup is Landale, who fills the void left by the injured Zach Edey (ankle). Landale doesn’t offer much fantasy upside, and managers who drafted Santi Aldama should stick with him despite his coming off the bench.

Unfortunately, Williams’ struggles to stay healthy persist, as he won’t play in Wednesday’s season opener. The Grizzlies wing only appeared in 27 games last season, making five starts. Williams’ absence likely means more minutes for rookie Cedric Coward, who offers a high long-term fantasy upside. Jaylen Wells, who’s in the starting lineup, should see his fantasy ceiling rise, especially with Ja Morant making his first appearance after missing the preseason with a sprained ankle.

Morant, who sprained his left ankle in early October, did not play during the preseason. With that in mind, his playing time may be limited on Wednesday. However, the Grizzlies will be without Scotty Pippen Jr. (toe) and Ty Jerome (calf), possibly resulting in rotation minutes off the bench for Javon Small. There isn’t a need to stream the rookie, since he’ll be in a backup role if he plays.

Initially probable for Wednesday’s opener due to neck spasms, Ware was downgraded to questionable due to a different injury. The second-year center sprained his left ankle late in Tuesday’s practice and is not a lock to be available Wednesday night. After missing the entire preseason, Morant is reportedly on track to play in Wednesday’s season opener. His return would come at an excellent time for the Grizzlies, who will be without backups Ty Jerome (calf) and Scotty Pippen Jr. (toe) for multiple weeks. He’s not a must-stream player, but tracking Small’s role and playing time would be a good idea.

Jerome injured his right calf four minutes into Friday’s preseason finale against the Heat. According to the Grizzlies, the guard has been diagnosed with a high-grade calf strain and will be re-evaluated in four weeks. With Scotty Pippen Jr. (toe) out indefinitely and Ja Morant (ankle) working his way back after missing the entire preseason, rotation minutes may be available to rookie Javon Small. While solid during the preseason, Small is a deep-league streamer at best.

Ware was dealing with neck spasms, hence his absence from Monday’s practice. According to Anthony Chiang of the Miami Herald, a team doctor was due to examine the second-year center’s neck during practice. If Ware cannot play in Wednesday’s opener against the Magic, Nikola Jović would figure more prominently in the Heat rotation. Jović began the preseason as a starter, so the role won’t be unfamiliar if he’s asked to start.

Jerome, who missed both shot attempts, injured his calf four minutes into Friday’s preseason finale. The Grizzlies were already without Ja Morant (ankle), and it was announced on Saturday that Scotty Pippen Jr. will undergo surgery to address a toe injury. If Jerome misses time and Morant remains out, the Grizzlies may begin the regular season with a point guard rotation of Javon Small and Cam Spencer. Morant, who sprained his left ankle in early October and was considered week-to-week, did not play in Friday’s preseason finale. However, he did get in some on-court work before Memphis’ win over Miami, and the Grizzlies hope to have their starting point guard back for the start of the regular season next week. And they can certainly use Morant, as Scotty Pippen Jr. (toe) will undergo surgery and is out indefinitely. Also, Ty Jerome injured his calf during the win over the Heat. Cam Spencer may be pressed into action if Morant cannot play next week.

The Grizzlies announced Saturday that Pippen will need to undergo a sesamoidectomy to address discomfort in his left big toe. While the team has officially released no timeline, as Pippen has yet to undergo the procedure, ESPN’s Shams Charania reported the guard could be out for at least 12 weeks. Given the sprained ankle that sidelined starter Ja Morant during the preseason, not to mention his injury history, the Grizzlies are in trouble at point guard. While Morant is “progressing well” in his recovery, according to head coach Tuomas Iisola, it isn’t guaranteed that he’ll be available when the regular season begins next week. Ty Jerome, whose fantasy value would have increased with Saturday’s news, injured his calf during Friday’s preseason finale.

Ware concluded an impressive preseason with another dominant stat line. In 30 minutes of game action, he did his scoring damage inside the arc and crashed the glass hard to secure his fourth double-double of the preseason. Powell rebounded from an inefficient shooting performance against the Hawks to log his most efficient outing of the preseason. He also set a new preseason-high in points, utilizing the three-point shot to log more than 20 points for the first time in a Heat uniform, as well as set a new preseason high in assists. Powell’s offensive contributions to begin the regular season will be important, given that Tyler Herro likely won’t begin the year healthy. Despite exiting Monday’s game against the Hawks with a knee injury, Adebayo started Friday and played his most minutes of the preseason. He was aggressive in his time on the floor, finishing with a team-high in shot attempts and ending with more than 20 points for the first time during these exhibition games. Adebayo made his usual impact on the defensive end, and if he can regain his shooting efficiency and find another gear as a scorer, he may be able to improve on his 2024-25 campaign.

In his second appearance of the preseason, Jackson Jr. logged a similar stat line to his debut on Wednesday. He struggled with his shooting efficiency but had enough volume to come close to scoring 20 points. Foul trouble and a lack of rebounding were issues for the dominant defensive big man against the Heat, weaknesses that have persisted throughout his career. He’s still knocking off some rust in his return from a toe injury, but he looks as though he’ll be ready to go for the Grizzlies when they begin the regular season against the Pelicans on October 22.

Wells’ strong preseason concluded on Friday with another solid offensive performance. On efficient shooting, he reached the 20-point mark for the second time this season and tied a preseason high in made threes. Throughout the five exhibition games, he very much looked like a player who started 74 regular-season games the year prior and found success on both ends of the floor. Wells could make another leap in Year 2 after averaging 10.4 points as a rookie.

The rookie got the start on Wednesday with Ty Jerome and Scotty Pippen Jr. not playing, and he took advantage of the opportunity. The second-round pick out of West Virginia will likely spend most of his time in the G League this season, but if Memphis deals with injuries in the backcourt, he could have some streaming appeal if he’s given the opportunity to play big minutes, though that will likely require multiple injuries to the guys ahead of him.

Jackson, who had been sidelined with a toe injury, suited up for the first time this preseason and was immediately a focal point of the offense. Jackson should be available to start the regular season, assuming he doesn’t suffer any setbacks.

After playing 15 minutes as a starter in Sunday’s loss to the Magic, Jaquez was used in a reserve role Monday night. And he played well, shooting 50 percent from the field while recording a solid stat line. However, even with Tyler Herro (ankle) unavailable, Jaquez is not in a spot where he can provide consistent fantasy value. At best, he’s a player that fantasy managers can add to their early-season watchlists. If Jaquez takes on a larger role and is productive, he’d be worth picking up.

Miami’s starters struggled on Monday, with many returning to action after sitting out Sunday’s loss to the Magic. Wiggins has not looked his best during the preseason, but the starting role and potential make him worth selecting in standard league drafts. The hope is that having a full offseason in Miami after being traded midseason will result in a more comfortable Wiggins. And he’ll need to be that kind of player to start, as the Heat are unlikely to have Tyler Herro (ankle) after he underwent surgery just before training camp.

Powell had a rough Monday in Atlanta, but the good news is that it’s still the preseason. The turnover count was more concerning than the shooting, with Powell responsible for five. With Tyler Herro (ankle) not guaranteed to be available when the Heat begin the regular season, Powell may have more opportunities to serve as a playmaker within the offense. That would raise his fantasy ceiling in the short term, but only if he can keep the turnovers in check.

Adebayo, who sat out Sunday’s loss to the Magic, suffered a right knee contusion early in the third quarter of Monday’s exhibition. He was able to walk back to the locker room without assistance and has since returned to the Heat bench. The return to the bench may be a sign that the injury isn’t serious, which would be great news for the Heat and fantasy managers.
