By itself, Williams’ absence would not affect fantasy basketball. However, with Isaiah Hartenstein also out, the Thunder need to account for the lack of two rotation post players. Thursday’s game is the first of two in as many nights for the Thunder, who take on the Timberwolves on Friday. Hartenstein’s absence opens up a spot in the starting lineup, with Cason Wallace likely filling the void. With Devin Booker returning from a groin injury, the assumption was that Gillespie would head back to the bench. Suns head coach Jordan Ott went in another direction, deciding to move Royce O’Neale (12/5/1/1 with four three-pointers) instead. Gillespie didn’t record the most impressive stat line, but sticking in the starting lineup and playing 37 minutes means that he still has life in fantasy leagues. The Suns play two games in Week 9, a Thursday/Saturday home-and-home against the Warriors.

Williams recorded his second 20-point game in three appearances and fifth of the season in Sunday’s 116-114 defeat. While the rebounding number wasn’t on par with his season average, the Suns center has been more valuable to fantasy managers than anticipated. Williams is providing top-50 value in nine-cat formats, well ahead of his Yahoo! ADP of 83. Health has been on the 7-footer’s side, much to the delight of those who were willing to take a chance on Williams in drafts.

After a four-game absence with a strained groin, Booker played 31 minutes on Sunday. The lone negative for fantasy managers was the three-point shooting, as he missed all five of his attempts on the night. However, Booker shot a good percentage from the field overall and recorded a complete stat line. The Suns play two games in Week 9, starting with the Warriors on Thursday. Hopefully, the time off means that Booker’s minutes won’t be restricted moving forward.

Brooks and LeBron James have a well-known history, and Sunday’s matchup featured more theatrics. Having already been called for one technical foul earlier in the game, Brooks picked up a second when he bumped James after hitting a three that gave the Suns a one-point lead with 12.2 seconds remaining. Brooks finished with 18 points (6-of-9 FGs, 2-of-2 FTs), one rebound, one steal and four three-pointers.

Booker is back in the Suns’ lineup after a four-game absence, but it isn’t Gillespie who will be pushed to the bench. He remains with the starters, while Royce O’Neale will be asked to come off the bench. While he can still provide deep-league value in that role, O’Neale has a lower ceiling when used as a reserve.

While Williams did not shoot the ball well on Saturday, fantasy managers will be pleased with the rebounds, assists and steals. His four pilfers were a season-high; Williams entered Saturday with seven steals across six appearances. J-Dub is providing third-round value in eight- and nine-cat formats, not far removed from his Yahoo! ADP (26). Victor Wembanyama wasn’t the only post player making their return to action on Saturday. Hartenstein was back in the Thunder lineup after missing six games with a strained right calf, and his minutes were restricted. The 7-footer played 20 minutes and was productive, recording a complete stat line. Hartenstein doesn’t need a high usage to provide reliable fantasy value, but he is more “high floor” than “high ceiling.” Cason Wallace moved to the bench on Saturday, finishing with seven points, three rebounds, one assist, two steals and one three-pointer in 27 minutes.

Holmgren didn’t have the best night shooting the basketball, but the foul line helped boost the final point total. Having to deal with Victor Wembanyama for portions of Saturday’s game didn’t help, but there’s no need for fantasy managers to have any concern about Holmgren. He’s still providing excellent value in eight- and nine-cat formats, proving to be slightly more valuable in the latter. The Thunder play twice in Week 9, starting with the Clippers on Thursday.

While the Spurs made life difficult for Gilgeous-Alexander in some ways, he still extended his streak of games with at least 20 points to 97. The reigning MVP shot 1-of-7 from beyond the arc, and he committed a season-high five turnovers. Entering Saturday, SGA had just two games this season with at least four turnovers. This isn’t the first time that Brooks has appeared on the Suns’ injury report due to a sore left Achilles tendon. He did not miss any time for either of the other two instances, so the hope is that he’ll be able to play against the Lakers. It wasn’t the Suns’ night against the Thunder on Wednesday and no one incapsulated that better than Brooks. The 29-year-old shooting guard had 16 points on 16 shots and was a -47 in 26 minutes in the 49-point loss. It was a bad night against the defending champions and Brooks is in a bit of a slump going 11-of-36 over the last two games. Brooks, who was a game-time decision with a sore Achilles tendon, did not have his best night shooting the basketball. However, that should not put a damper on what has been a surprisingly productive season for the Suns’ wing. Brooks is providing top-100 value in eight-cat formats, which exceeds his Yahoo! The move to Phoenix has given Williams a new lease on life basketball-wise. Williams isn’t always in a position to provide tangible fantasy value. However, the combination of blowout victories and some key injuries has freed up additional minutes for “Kenny Hustle.” He’s played at least 17 minutes in three straight games, with Sunday’s performance being the most productive. How much he plays moving forward depends partially on the availability of Isaiah Hartenstein, who has missed the last five games with a strained calf. Brooks was Phoenix’s go-to scorer on Friday with Devin Booker (groin) sidelined, and he finished as the team’s only player to tally at least 20 points.
