Saturday’s game is the first for the Mavericks since losing Anthony Davis to a minor groin strain. Gafford moves back into the starting lineup, but his fantasy ceiling will only be affected if he’s able to play more minutes. As a starter, he has averaged 23.1 minutes per game. Moussa Cissé and Dwight Powell will be available to fill out the rotation at the center position. George struggled with his shooting for a third consecutive game and is now shooting 12-of-39 from the field over that span. The inefficiency led to a below-average scoring performance from the decorated veteran forward. Yet, even without the scoring, George hit the glass hard to earn his first double-double of the season, and also tied a season high in assists to finish with a solid outing from a fantasy basketball perspective. Still, fantasy managers are hoping he can regain his shooting touch soon and return to form as a scorer.

Maxey struggled with his shooting efficiency in Friday’s loss. He started and ended the game cold, while 18 of his points came in the middle two quarters of the game. Although he was inaccurate overall, his five triples were helpful in helping him finish the night with a good fantasy basketball performance, as was his facilitating. Maxey has now shot 12-of-38 from the floor in his last two appearances, which were both Sixers losses. He’ll have a chance to bounce back on Sunday against the Thunder.

Embiid’s second 30-point game of the season came in a losing effort. The former league MVP had performed well on the offensive end through three quarters, but with just four fourth-quarter points on 1-of-4 shooting, he was one of several Sixers who failed to deliver down the stretch, as they were outscored by the Bulls 17-28 in the frame before losing by seven points. But from a fantasy basketball standpoint, Embiid has shown signs of being the dominant scorer of recent seasons; he’s averaging 29.8 points per game over his last four appearances, and has logged at least 30 minutes in each.

With Barlow and Edgecombe back in the lineup, the Sixers’ opening unit will look different from the one that played in the team’s 114-106 loss to the Nets in its most recent game. Their returns move Jabari Walker and Jared McCain back to the Philadelphia bench, where they’ll join Quentin Grimes to form a stronger reserve unit. The Sixers lost their only other matchup with the Bulls back in November, but will have a chance to avenge it on Friday and inch closer to the fourth spot in the Eastern Conference standings.

Charania’s report indicates Dallas is taking a cautious approach, so the injury may not be severe, but they will continue to evaluate him daily. Max Christie started the second half of Thursday’s game in place of Davis, but that was likely a matchup-based decision. After totaling 13 points on 4-of-12 shooting in Dallas’ Monday/Tuesday back-to-back, Williams rebounded with his best performances of the season. The 26 points were a season-high for the guard, who played 30 minutes off the bench. Starter Ryan Nembhard (four points, one rebound and two assists in 17 minutes) struggled, resulting in more playing time for Williams. Thursday was another example of why it’s challenging to rely on either of the Mavericks point guards in fantasy, although Nembhard’s status as the starter gives him the slight edge.

Washington was back in the Mavericks’ lineup after sitting out Tuesday’s win over the Nuggets, and he made up for lost time with his fourth double-double of the season. All that his stat line was missing on Thursday was a three-pointer, a somewhat surprising development since he averages 1.5 per game on the season. Depending on what happens with Anthony Davis, who left the game with a groin injury, Washington could figure even more prominently in the Mavericks’ offense in the short term.

The good news is that Marshall reached double figures for the tenth consecutive game. The bad is that the stat line was meager outside of points and rebounds. And the limited production is why Marshall is ranked just outside the top-100 over the last two weeks. If Anthony Davis (groin) misses time, the Mavericks are going to need even more from Marshall. For that reason, he’s worth holding onto if you’ve been rostering him.

Four days after turning 19 years old, Flagg made his Christmas Day debut. While it ended in defeat and Anthony Davis (groin) limped off with another injury, the rookie certainly made a positive impression. It used to be unheard of for AD to play back-to-backs, but this was the third time this season that he did. He played 35 and 36 minutes and had at least 30 points in both. Flagg’s final line was good with one notable exception: free-throw shooting. The rookie missed half of his 10 attempts, a surprising performance given that he was an 82.8 percent shooter from the foul line entering the game. After scoring two points in a December 5 loss to the Thunder, Davis has tallied at least 24 in four of his last five appearances.
