George will remain out for a second straight game to start the season. He was a full participant in practice on Sunday, which implies he isn’t far away from returning to the floor. Dominick Barlow should get another start after contributing 13 points, eight rebounds, five assists and a block in 34 minutes against the Celtics.

McDaniels hit a three-pointer that put the Timberwolves ahead with 2:25 left in the fourth quarter. It was a clutch shot at that point in the game, though the Timberwolves would give up the lead only to get it back on a clutch shot by Anthony Edwards. It’s only one game, but McDaniels already looks like a steal as his preseason Yahoo! ADP was outside the top-100.

Anthony Edwards was said to be dealing with a back injury heading into this game, but he ultimately didn’t defer any of his typical usage as he led the team with 28 shot attempts. Randle would’ve figured to pick up some usage if Edwards was out. He played an efficient game to get his numbers in this one without the additional usage with 19 points on 13 shots and six assists with zero turnovers. Randle picked up right where he left off as a perfect fit with the Timberwolves in his first year with Minnesota.

Edwards was initially listed as questionable with back spasms, but ended up playing 39 minutes against the Trail Blazers on Wednesday. The 24-year-old shooting guard was the best player on the floor with a game-high 41 points. Edwards hit a three-pointer with 1:14 left that put the Timberwolves up for good, partially because he also hit a jumper with seven seconds left that iced the game. Typical superstar effort from Edwards that we’ve seen many times already in his young career.

Embiid struggled mightily in the season opener. The 31-year-old center had just four points on 1-of-9 shooting from the field. Embiid is on a minutes restriction to begin the season, but it’s an entirely different headache for fantasy managers if he can’t produce in the time he is out on the floor.

Maxey absolutely cooked the Celtics’ defense again and again on his way to dropping 40 points on Wednesday. The 24-year-old point guard tied the 76ers’ record for most points in a season opening game. Maxey combined with VJ Edgecombe for 74 points in the victory. They carried Philadelphia to victory while Joel Embiid had just four points.

A game-time decision for Wednesday’s season opener due to back spasms, Edwards is available and will occupy his usual place in the starting lineup. Donte DiVincenzo, Jaden McDaniels, Julius Randle and Rudy Gobert complete the Timberwolves’ starting five.

With Paul George (knee) unavailable, two-way contract player Barlow will start at the four after performing well during the preseason. While Adem Bona misses out on the opportunity to start, he’ll get his opportunities due to Embiid being under a minutes restriction. Edgecombe will start in his official NBA debut, with Quentin Grimes coming off the bench.

The lineup decision means veteran Mike Conley will come off the bench, but according to Haynes, he will “remain a vital piece.” DiVincenzo’s fantasy value gets a boost with this announcement, and he’s still widely available on many waiver wires.

Edwards is dealing with back spasms, hence his inclusion on the Timberwolves’ injury report. To say his potential absence is a big deal would be an understatement, as Ant-Man is Minnesota’s top offensive option and has top-10 fantasy potential. If he’s unable to play, more will be asked of Julius Randle offensively, and Donte DiVincenzo and Terrence Shannon Jr. would see their roles expand.

Embiid, who played in Philadelphia’s preseason finale, will be available for Wednesday’s season opener. How much he’ll play remains to be seen, as he logged 19 minutes on Friday. However, simply having the former MVP on the floor is a win for the 76ers. Adem Bona and Andre Drummond will figure more prominently in the rotation if Embiid experiences any issues with his knee.

While George fully participated in Sunday’s practice, he has not reached the point where he’s healthy enough to play. Fantasy managers should expect George’s minutes to be managed once he’s cleared to return. In the meantime, Kelly Oubre, VJ Edgecombe and Quentin Grimes should see their minutes increase, and Adem Bona could potentially start alongside Joel Embiid.

Juzang, who agreed to a non-guaranteed deal with the Timberwolves on August 1, played well during the preseason. He’ll stick around on a two-way contract, which allows Minnesota to make Juzang active for up to 50 regular-season games. However, the team must waive Tristen Newton, Enrique Freeman or Rocco Zikarsky to free up a two-way slot for Juzang. Zikarsky’s two-way deal runs for two years, so he’s the player most likely to remain with the Timberwolves.

Clark found himself able to take advantage of additional opportunities on Friday, with many of Minnesota’s key rotation players resting. In the start, he logged 21 minutes and used the free-throw line to help him score in double figures for the first time this preseason. Clark was drafted with the 53rd pick of the 2024 draft by the Timberwolves and appeared in 40 games in his rookie season, where he averaged 13.1 minutes per game. He’ll face an uphill battle in trying to carve out a big role with this veteran roster in Year 2.

With several key Timberwolves players resting, Dillingham got the start on Friday and put together a solid outing. Despite being cold from beyond the arc, he still shot decently overall and made his way into double figures as a scorer in his 26 minutes of action. He was most impressive as a passer, however, leading Minnesota in assists against Philadelphia. Dillingham didn’t find a meaningful role with the Wolves during his rookie season, but with Nickiel Alexander-Walker joining the Hawks this past offseason, he will have a chance to land more consistent playing time in Year 2.

Miller had his highest scoring game of the preseason on Friday against the 76ers. He impressed both inside and outside the arc en route to finishing as the Timberwolves’ leading scorer for the game. Miller was also impressive earlier this preseason in a game against Guangzhou, where he secured a 15-point, 11-rebound double-double. He ended up having a solid preseason overall, but likely won’t play a meaningful role for Minnesota this upcoming season.

Maxey followed up a productive outing against the Magic with another impressive performance on Friday. In his most game action of the preseason, the versatile guard logged 30 minutes and was very aggressive — he neared 20 shot attempts on the evening, and with good efficiency, nearly reached 30 points. Maxey also showcased his ability as a facilitator and, additionally, collected a few stocks on the defensive end. The final stat line could end up looking similar to what Maxey averages this upcoming regular season. He has a chance to tally another impressive campaign.

Embiid made his first appearance of the preseason and put together a productive line in just 19 minutes of action. He opened the game with one of his signature off-the-bounce midrange jumpers and then went on to shoot the ball well overall. Solid work on the glass and impressive playmaking put Embiid on the brink of a triple-double in what was a strong first impression after last seeing the floor 237 days ago. Embiid’s ceiling is incredibly high, which he’s proven throughout the years. Yet, his injury history has caused his ADP to fall in fantasy leagues when compared to recent seasons. If healthy, he’ll have a chance to finish as one of the top centers.

Minnesota’s starting unit on Friday will not feature any of its regular rotation players. With Mike Conley Jr., Anthony Edwards, Rudy Gobert, Julius Randle and Jaden McDaniels headlining the list of Timberwolves that are unavailable, younger players will have opportunities to start and soak up minutes on Friday. Dillingham, who scored 27 points in a game against Guangzhou earlier this preseason, will have another chance to impress coaches and potentially make a case for a bigger role this upcoming regular season.

Embiid makes his first appearance of the preseason in Friday’s finale and will do so as a starter. Also of note is the inclusion of Bona, who appears to have a legitimate chance of starting alongside the former MVP when the regular season begins due to Paul George’s continued absence. Edgecombe will start in the backcourt alongside Maxey. During his pregame availability, head coach Nick Nurse said he was leaning toward starting the rookie when the 76ers begin the regular season on October 22 against Boston.

Embiid appears to be on track to play in the season opener against Boston next week, and his expected availability against Minnesota is another step in the right direction. How his body responds to the game will be a big factor, but if he’s relatively healthy to start the year, he quickly becomes one of the best values in fantasy basketball, even with the risks that come with drafting him.

Edwards made his third appearance of the preseason and was by far his most productive, setting preseason-highs in points, rebounds, assists and three-pointers en route to finishing with a game-high in points. The superstar guard also shot the ball efficiently for the first time during his 30 minutes of game action. The Timberwolves will face the 76ers on the second night of a back-to-back on Friday, and regardless of whether Edwards logs any minutes, he appears ready to hit the ground running when Minnesota opens against Portland on October 22.

Randle was aggressive on Thursday in 27 minutes of game action. He nearly got up 20 shots, and posted solid shooting percentages both inside and outside the arc — the end result was Randle’s first 20-point game of the preseason. The veteran forward was impressive on the glass throughout, as well, and also showed off his capabilities as a playmaker. Randle should be set for another strong season in his second year with the Timberwolves.

Gobert logged 26 minutes on Thursday and flirted with a double-double. The veteran big man was unusually inaccurate from the free-throw line, but his seven field goals helped him conclude as one of three starters to reach double figures in scoring. Gobert collected a few stocks against the Bulls as well, which is unsurprising for a former DPOY. The Timberwolves will have a similar frontcourt rotation this regular season, which should lead to similar production from the decorated center.

The Wolves will use their expected regular-season starting lineup on Thursday in their second-to-last game of the preseason. The unit last started against the Pacers earlier this preseason in a 135-134 OT loss, with neither starter playing more than 19 minutes. With their finale being tomorrow on the second night of a back-to-back, there’s a chance the main rotation players could see some extended run against the Bulls on Thursday.

While Juzang agreed to a one-year deal with the Timberwolves in August, his contract is non-guaranteed. So, every positive performance has added meaning for the guard, who had another good shooting night. Juzang shot 3-of-6 from beyond the arc against Guangzhou, less than a week after knocking down six triples against the Pacers. Last season, the Timberwolves were ranked in the top five in three-point makes and attempts per game, and fourth in three-point percentage. With Minnesota having one open roster spot, Juzang is doing all he can to earn that opportunity.

Initially expected to miss two weeks after suffering a lacerated right fifth finger, Miller returned a few days ahead of schedule. He played well against the Loong-Lions, leading the Timberwolves in rebounds and shooting 75 percent from the field. The issue for Miller heading into the regular season is that Minnesota’s frontcourt depth will make it difficult for him to earn consistent rotation minutes.

While Mike Conley, who did not play on Monday, remains the Timberwolves’ starting point guard, Dillingham should have more opportunities to contribute than he did as a rookie. While Guangzhou was overmatched, the second-year guard commanding the floor as he did was encouraging. Dillingham was efficient as a scorer and playmaker, shooting well over 50 percent from the field and committing just one turnover. Fellow second-year guard Terrence Shannon Jr. (15/2/4 with four three-pointers) offers a higher upside for this season, especially with Nickeil Alexander-Walker out of the picture, but Dillingham won’t lack opportunities.

The Timberwolves are resting their starters for Monday’s exhibition. So, the younger players will have opportunities to show that they should be in the regular-season rotation or that they deserve to be on the opening night roster. Barlow is on a two-way contract, but the 76ers’ many absences have allowed him to start three preseason games. He’s taken advantage of the opportunities, stepping up as an active rebounder and defender. Two-way contract recipients can be active for up to 50 games, so the 76ers will have some time to evaluate Barlow. But with his play during the preseason, it’s fair to wonder if there’s a path to legitimate rotation minutes.

Maxey and Kelly Oubre Jr. (12/5/2/2/1 with one three-pointer) were the only projected starters available for Friday’s game, and the latter only played the first quarter. That’s all the time Maxey needed to show he’s ready for the regular season, and he may have to do more heavy lifting than usual if Joel Embiid and Paul George aren’t available. As for Oubre, he was solid in his 18 minutes and should provide late-round value in standard leagues, especially with Jared McCain likely to miss the start of the season.

With Nickeil Alexander-Walker now a member of the Atlanta Hawks, Shannon is one of the young reserves hoping to earn a larger role during the preseason. After a solid outing in Monday’s exhibition opener against the Pacers, Shannon did not miss any of his three-point attempts and was active as a rebounder. Rob Dillingham (10/2/5 with two three-pointers) will also have his opportunities to step up, especially if the Timberwolves look to rest Mike Conley during back-to-backs. However, Shannon is more worthy of a late-round flier in standard leagues.

McDaniels, who did not play in Monday’s exhibition against the Pacers, logged 23 minutes in his first action of the preseason. He has a Yahoo! ADP of 110.2, and fantasy managers could be undervaluing the Timberwolves’ wing. McDaniels was nearly a top-75 player in nine-cat formats last season and can provide similar value this season. However, the 2024-25 campaign was also the first in which McDaniels finished as a top-100 player. Given the production throughout McDaniels’ career, it’s understandable why some may not be ready to hop onto the bandwagon just yet.

Through two preseason games, Edwards has shot a combined 12-of-32 from the field. While that obviously isn’t great, there’s little for fantasy managers to be concerned about. When the regular season begins, Edwards will be good to go and is worth selecting with a first-round pick in standard league drafts. He took on a slightly different role on Thursday, as starting point guard Mike Conley was given the night off. Edwards did not record any assists in that role against the Knicks, but he’s averaged at least 4.4 helpers per game each of the last three seasons.
