Williams still hasn’t played since the first Play-In game. With the 24-year-old center sidelined in Game 2, Oso Ighodaro started and had seven points and eight rebounds in 29 minutes. Ighodaro will likely remain in the starting lineup as long as Williams is out.

Green struggled again with his shooting after an inefficient opening game. He missed 15 shots on Wednesday, and nearly tallied as many turnovers as he made field goals. Green is now shooting 14-of-39 from the field through two games in this series, which is a far different outcome compared to the 28-of-49 shooting and 71 points he tallied over the two Play-In Tournament games. Phoenix will likely need Green to get back on track offensively if it wants to get back in the series on Saturday.

It was tough for Booker to find scoring opportunities on Wednesday. He had only 10 shot attempts through the first three quarters against a Thunder defense that continues to guard him well. The low output left him as Phoenix’s second-leading scorer on the night with a points total that fell short of his regular-season average. Booker also had more turnovers than assists in Game 2 in his 40 minutes of game action. The Suns will likely need him to perform at a higher level if they want to avoid falling behind by three games on Saturday.

Brooks bounced back from a very inefficient 18-point performance in Game 1 by hitting the 30-point mark on above 50.0 percent shooting, leading to half of his scoring total. He didn’t make any big splashes in other statistical categories, but his three-point contributions and scoring were big positives nonetheless. The series will flip to Phoenix on Saturday, when Brooks and the Suns will look to avoid going down three games.

Williams got off to a blazing-hot start in Wednesday’s contest, scoring all 19 of his points in the first half, missing only one shot along the way; he scored it effectively both inside and outside the paint. Yet, his night ended prematurely after injuring his hamstring midway through the third quarter on a driving layup attempt. He exited the game at the next deadball, exited to the locker room, and never returned to the game. Williams was never officially ruled out, so perhaps that’s an encouraging sign ahead of Game 3. His status is certainly one to monitor over the coming days.

Holmgren anchored the middle defensively for the Thunder in a major way on Wednesday. The former second-overall pick repeatedly erased shots at the rim to account for two-thirds of his team’s total blocked shots, and had success at cleaning up the defensive glass. He scored in spurts on the offensive end to finish as one of OKC’s top scorers, with the three-point shot being a major factor. As he’s been effective on both ends of the floor, Holmgren is off to a strong start to begin the series. He’ll look to keep rolling in Game 3.

On the heels of winning the NBA’s Clutch Player of the Year award, SGA nearly put up 40 points on the eighth-seeded Suns. As usual, he was effective in the midrange, found production from beyond the arc, and was active at the charity stripe. Additionally, the reigning league MVP racked up several beautiful assists, enough to nearly notch a double-double, while also tying a team-high in steals. Essentially, Gilgeous-Alexander did it all for the Thunder in their Game 2 rout and will have a chance to do it again in Game 3.

As was the case ahead of Game 1, Allen has been upgraded from questionable to available for Wednesday’s contest. The three-point shooter was healthy for Sunday’s playoff opener but did not see any minutes. With the injury absence of Jordan Goodwin, Allen could see more opportunities in Game 2.

Already without starting center Mark Williams, Phoenix will also be without Goodwin on Wednesday. As a result, a spot in the starting backcourt opens up; Collin Gillespie and Grayson Allen could fill it to replace Goodwin, who has been one of Phoenix’s best defenders throughout the season.

The Suns will be without their starting center for a second straight game, as they look to avoid falling behind two games in the series. Williams has not played since the first of two Play-In Tournament games, which the Suns lost to the Trail Blazers. Oso Ighodaro will likely start again in Williams’ spot.

Allen was available for Game 1 after being on the injury report with a hamstring, but got a DNP-CD. Jordan Goodwin (calf) left the game and didn’t return, which could open a starting spot for Game 2. It’s just difficult to gauge how much Allen might be considered for that spot after his bizarre lack of any minutes at all in Game 1.

Goodwin left Sunday’s Game 1 loss to the Thunder after five minutes with a sore left calf and didn’t return. Royce O’Neale started the third quarter in his place and finished with four points in 23 minutes. O’Neale could be looking at a spot start if Goodwin is ruled out for Game 2. Grayson Allen could also be an option, though he got a DNP-CD in Game 2 as he was available despite a hamstring injury.

Gilgeous-Alexander led the NBA with 175 total clutch points and 6.5 points per game in clutch time, defined as games within five points in the final five minutes of the fourth quarter or overtime, according to a release from NBA PR. He also made a league-leading 16 go-ahead field goals in clutch time. Gilgeous-Alexander finished the regular season as the overwhelming favorite to repeat as Most Valuable Player. He had 25 points in Sunday’s Game 1 victory over the Suns with Game 2 on Wednesday.

J-Dub and the Thunder grabbed control of Game 1 early and never looked back, winning by 35 points. As a playmaker, Williams was especially impactful during the second quarter, as he accounted for six points and four assists. Oklahoma City is a heavy favorite in this series, and its depth and defense carried the day in Game 1. They’ll look to do the same in Game 2 on Wednesday.

Holmgren came out hot in Game 1, scoring 13 points in the first quarter. He didn’t offer much production after that, but the Thunder really didn’t need much from him. Holmgren’s final line only lacked an assist, and he was one of three starters to block two shots. Oklahoma City’s bigs were excellent defensively, with Isaiah Hartenstein (eight points, eight rebounds, two assists and two blocks) and Jaylin Williams (five points, four rebounds, two assists, four steals and one three-pointer) joining Holmgren in recording at least two “stocks.” Holmgren is one of the finalists for Defensive Player of the Year, joining San Antonio’s Victor Wembanyama and Detroit’s Ausar Thompson.

The Thunder began the postseason portion of their title defense with a 119-84 rout of the Suns, with the reigning league MVP leading the way. Gilgeous-Alexander didn’t shoot the ball well from the field, but his ability to apply pressure off the dribble and get to the foul line compensated for that. SGA was also responsible for seven assists, and the nature of Sunday’s game meant he needed to play just 29 minutes. Oklahoma City hosts Game 2 on Wednesday.

Green shot 2-of-7 from beyond the arc in Game 1, with the complete stat line being countered in an inefficient day of shooting the basketball. Like Devin Booker (23/6/2 with two three-pointers), the Suns are going to need a much better showing from Green if they’re to have any chance of making the series competitive, much less harbor ambitions of winning it. Game 2 is scheduled for Wednesday night.

Given what he brings to the table defensively, Brooks earns a certain level of freedom on the offensive end of the floor. However, there’s no reason why he should lead the Suns in shot attempts when Devin Booker and Jalen Green are available. In Game 1, Brooks put up 22 shots, with Booker next in line with 17 attempts and Green finishing with 16. That’s something to keep an eye on moving forward, beginning with Wednesday’s Game 2. If the Thunder defense can funnel things towards Brooks consistently, this series could be a sweep.

Of the three Suns players to score in double figures in Sunday’s blowout defeat, Booker was the only one to get close to shooting 50 percent from the field. Given the matchup, the Suns will need more from their star guard if they’re to have a chance of winning this series. With Phoenix having played on Wednesday and Friday in the Play-In Tournament before Sunday’s afternoon matchup, an extra day off ahead of Game 2 on Wednesday night may do Booker and the Suns some good.

Goodwin was impressive in Friday’s victory on both ends of the floor. On offense, he took advantage of his looks from beyond the arc and made over half of his seven attempts to nearly reach the 20-point mark. He also secured four offensive boards and tallied a couple of assists. But what really stood out on this night was his work on defense, where he changed the game with his outstanding disruptiveness. Goodwin nearly accounted for half of Phoenix’s 14 steals before finishing the game just one rebound shy of a double-double. Goodwin did it all for the Suns on Friday and will have a chance to put up similar production on Sunday against the Thunder.

Booker logged a fairly balanced performance as Phoenix’s lead guard. He shot inefficiently from beyond the arc but repeatedly worked his way to the line to help reach the 20-point mark. Meanwhile, he took on the role of lead playmaker, which nearly led him to a points-assists double-double. The veteran combo guard didn’t deliver any major counting stats. However, he took a very calculated approach, which allowed him to finish with a team-high plus-25 on the evening. He’ll have a chance to log another strong outing on Sunday in Game 1 against the Thunder.

Green was exceptional on Friday to help the Suns clinch a spot in the playoffs. The first-year Sun accounted for nearly half of his team’s 18 triples, and missed only six shots en route to totaling a game-high 36 points.
