On Friday, Beasley’s lawyers announced that he was no longer the subject of a federal gambling investigation. That situation thrust the guard’s career into uncertainty, with the Pistons pulling a contract reportedly worth $42 million over three years off the table just before the start of free agency. With Beasley’s situation reportedly settled, the Cavaliers and Knicks are among the teams to have checked in with the guard. However, Cleveland and New York are in financial situations where they can only offer the veteran’s minimum. In contrast, Detroit can offer up to $7.2 million if it chooses to offer Beasley a new deal. Given how well Beasley shot the ball for the Pistons last season, it will be challenging for Cleveland or New York to get him on a minimum deal.

Beasley appeared poised to cash in at the start of free agency after an excellent 2024-25 season with the Pistons. However, just before he could agree to a three-year, $42 million contract to remain in Detroit, it was reported that the US District Attorney’s Office was investigating him due to gambling allegations related to NBA games and prop bets during the 2023-24 season. The Pistons pulled the offer off the table, and other reports regarding Beasley’s financial troubles would come to light. “Months after this investigation commenced, Malik remains uncharged and is not the target of this investigation,” attorney Steve Haney told ESPN. “An allegation with no charge, indictment or conviction should never have the catastrophic consequence this has caused Malik. This has literally been the opposite of the presumption of innocence.” It should be noted that, while Beasley is no longer the target of the federal investigation, that does not mean he can’t be charged at a later date. Detroit has addressed its wing needs this offseason through the additions of Caris LeVert and Duncan Robinson, not to mention Jaden Ivey’s return from a broken leg. And with many other teams lacking significant cap space, Beasley may have to take a smaller deal for the 2025-26 season than anticipated before free agency began.

It’s important to note that Beasley has not been charged with a crime. However, this is a serious development for a player who will be one of the top available free agents on the market when free agency begins on Monday. Appearing in all 82 games, Beasley averaged 16.3 points, 2.6 rebounds, 1.7 assists, 0.9 steals and 3.9 three-pointers for the Pistons. According to Charania, Beasley and the Pistons discussed a three-year, $42 million deal before the investigation came to light. Those talks have been paused. This situation also impacts starter Tim Hardaway Jr., who will be an unrestricted free agent.

Beasley provided a spark in the first half as he came off the bench and made six threes. Five of his threes came in the second quarter, which the Pistons won by 16. Beasley’s biggest shot was a buzzer-beater before the end of the first half, which gave the Pistons as two-point lead. With the Pistons down three at the end of the fourth quarter, Beasley couldn’t corral a pass from Cade Cunningham, resulting in a turnover and sealing the win for the Knicks. The 28-year-old shooting guard is set to hit free agency this offseason, but Beasley has expressed interest in staying with the Pistons and an agreement on a contract that makes sense for both sides wouldn’t be surprising.

As was the case for most of the regular season, Beasley provided solid production off the bench in Game 1. And after shooting 14-of-25 from three in two games against the Bucks to end the regular season, he carried that form over into Saturday’s matchup. Beasley shot 6-of-12 from three in Game 1 while also providing solid value in rebounds, steals and blocks. In four regular-season meetings with the Knicks, he shot 55.6 percent from three with an average of 3.8 makes and 15.8 points. Based on those numbers and his showing on Saturday, Beasley will have value in this series. Game 2 is on Monday night.

It doesn’t take much for Beasley to get rolling, and his hot shooting during the second and third quarters dragged the Pistons back into a game that was on its way to being a laugher. He shot 7-of-9 from three in those periods, appearing in fine form ahead of the Pistons’ first playoff appearance since 2019. Beasley’s name won’t be on the marquee for the first-round series against the Knicks, but he’s capable of being a factor. New York ranks 25th in the NBA in three-point percentage defense, which may be an area that Detroit can exploit.

A late addition to the starting lineup due to Tobias Harris (Achilles) being scratched, Beasley did what fantasy managers have come to expect from him. The veteran guard provided points and three-pointers with solid percentages and not much else. Over the past two weeks, Beasley has offered 11th-round value in nine-cat formats. Beasley is a deep-league option at best, whether he comes off the bench or is inserted into the starting lineup.

Already without Cade Cunningham, the Pistons announced a half-hour before tipoff that Tobias Harris (Achilles) will not play. Beasley moves into the starting lineup and should be streamed wherever he’s available.

Beasley had his typical game Friday against the Mavericks as his only meaningful contribution was in the threes category with him making five of them. It was notable that teammate Tim Hardaway Jr. left the game in the second quarter with an ankle injury and the Pistons predictably leaned on Beasley to pick up the slack, giving him 36 minutes. We’ve seen the Pistons do this at other points in the season. If Hardaway’s ankle injury lingers, Beasley would have a lot of fantasy value playing starter-level minutes.

Beasley isn’t much of a fantasy factor. He has a bench role and typically plays 25-30 minutes for the Pistons. He had 16 points against the Heat Wednesday while making five three-pointers, which is his primary fantasy utility. Beasley fits in the right builds for fantasy managers that need threes.

Harris is back in action after two straight absences, but Beasley will remain in the starting lineup. Fantasy managers rostering either player should pay close attention to the minutes distibution.

With Tobias Harris (personal) away from the team, Beasley made his first start since February 7 on Monday. While cold from deep, shooting 3-of-14, Malik extended his run of games with at least three three-pointers to 11 straight and 19 of his last 20 appearances. Rostered in 43 percent of Yahoo! leagues, Beasley has provided top-100 value in nine-cat formats since the All-Star break. Monday night wasn’t great, but fantasy managers needing value with Harris out would be wise to consider Beasley.

The lone change to the Pistons’ starting lineup has been prompted by Tobias Harris being away from the team for personal reasons. He’ll be replaced by Beasley, who has been a productive option since Jaden Ivey suffered a fractured fibula. And against the rebuilding Jazz, Beasley should be plugged into standard league lineups for Monday’s slate.

The good news for fantasy managers is that Beasley extended his streak of games with at least three three-pointers to 10 games before getting ejected from Saturday’s showdown. Shooting 6-of-10 from the field, Beasley finished with 18 points, one assist and five three-pointers in 24 minutes off the bench. The Pistons begin a four-game Week 18 on Monday against the Jazz, and Beasley is worth rostering while he remains hot.

Beasley shot 5-of-8 from the field in the first half and finished with a team-high 26 points, recording his third 20-point game in his last six outings. Rostered in 41 percent of Yahoo! leagues, the Pistons guard has provided sixth-round value in eight-cat formats over the past three weeks. And with Jaden Ivey (leg) not guaranteed to return before the fantasy playoff rounds, Beasley is a must-have in 14-team leagues, and he’s worth adding in 12-team formats.
