After scoring just six points in his first game back on the bench on December 6, Christie got back on track Friday night. He’s reached double figures in three of his last four outings, with the 15 points being the most in a game for Christie since November 24. While Naji Marshall (17/1/4/1 with one three-pointer) appears to be locked into the starting lineup, Christie is still capable of providing value. Managers in deep leagues who held onto him were rewarded for their faith (or forgetting to drop Max) on Friday.

Christie knocked down five of nine shots, including three from downtown, as part of a 17-point second-half eruption to power Dallas to a comeback win. He drained a pair of free throws in the closing seconds to give the Mavericks a three-point advantage which they didn’t relinquish. The 22-year-old guard is averaging a career-high 5.8 three-point attempts through 17 games, shooting an absurdly high 46.9 percent so far. There’s some regression looming, but he’s going to have plenty of opportunities for the injury-depleted Mavericks in the coming months.

Christie led the Mavericks in scoring on a night in which no Dallas players hit the 20-point mark. He also scored in double figures for his seventh consecutive game and continues to shoot the ball well in the process. The fourth-year guard has found a nice rhythm and is comfortably in the Mavericks’ starting lineup at the moment. Assuming his role remains the same, he may be a player worth rostering in fantasy leagues, especially for those managers looking for efficient shooting and three-point production.

Christie has now reached double figures in four straight games, the first time he’s done that since his first seven games as a Maverick in February. Rostered in just five percent of Yahoo! leagues, he’s providing solid late-round value in 12-team formats. Christie isn’t a must-roster player, but Dallas’ four-game Week 3 makes him a low-risk player, especially with Anthony Davis (calf) expected to miss a few more weeks.

Davis will start at the center position on Monday as the Mavs will be without both Dereck Lively (knee) and Daniel Gafford (ankle). The smaller opening unit will allow Max Christie to make his first start of the season. D’Angelo Russell will continue to come off the bench for Dallas.

Christie has played at least 26 minutes in each of Dallas’ three games, with Sunday’s effort being his most productive. His 17 points were one shy of his total in the first two contests, and the Mavericks’ reserves combined to score 61 points against the Raptors. Christie still isn’t in a position where he can provide reliable fantasy value, as his minutes are dependent upon starter Klay Thompson. Thompson played 20 minutes on Sunday, finishing with 10 points, four rebounds, three assists, one block and two three-pointers. Dallas plays three games during Week 2, starting with the Thunder on Monday.

Christie’s tenure with the Mavericks got off to a strong start, and while he wasn’t able to maintain that for most of March, he has been playing well entering the postseason. He has scored in double figures in five of his last six appearances, and this was Christie’s highest-scoring performance since March 19, when he also scored 17 points. Christie should be a solid reserve in the postseason, but it’s difficult to see him providing standard league value when Dallas is fully healthy next season.

Unlike Brandon Williams (11/2/2/1/1 in 32 minutes), who remains on a two-way contract, Christie has no such contract concerns. That makes him the superior choice for deep-league fantasy managers despite coming off the bench on Sunday. Neither player should be considered a must-add for Week 20, as the Mavericks only play two games. But if anyone is going to be targeted in deep leagues, it should be Christie before Williams.

Starting for the injured Dante Exum (foot), Christie struggled with his shot on Wednesday. However, his time as a Maverick has been productive. Rostered in 29 percent of Yahoo! leagues, the third-year guard has been a 10th-round player in nine-cat formats since making his Mavs debut on February 4. Even if Exum is inserted back into the starting lineup upon returning from his foot injury, Christie is worth holding onto, as the Mavericks need his offense.

On the other side of Luka Doncic facing his former team for the first time was Christie, a second-round pick of the Lakers in 2022. Overall, he’s played well since being traded to Dallas. However, Christie has scored 12 points on 5-of-18 shooting in his last two appearances. In his first seven games as a Maverick, the third-year guard averaged 17.1 points, 5.0 rebounds, 3.3 assists, 1.1 steals and 2.4 three-pointers, shooting 51.9 percent from the field and 84 percent from the foul line. Christie will look to snap out of his mini-slump when the Mavericks host Charlotte on Thursday.
