Unfortunately, it seems that the 30-year-old will have to undergo a follow-up surgery on the same knee. It’s been a difficult career for Exum after being taken fifth overall in the 2014 NBA Draft. He appeared in 82 games in his rookie season, but then missed the following year with an injury and only appeared in more than 42 games once over the remaining five years before leaving the NBA to continue playing overseas. He came back to the league with the Mavericks last season and averaged 7.8 points, 2.9 assists, and 2.7 rebounds in 19.8 minutes per game.

Exum, who agreed to a one-year deal in July that did not become official until late August, has not participated in training camp or either of Dallas’ two preseason games with a sore right knee. Mavericks head coach Jason Kidd said Saturday that the team was cautiously approaching the guard’s recovery but did not offer a timeline for his return. With Kyrie Irving (knee) also out, there may be room in the rotation for Brandon Williams once he returns from his hamstring injury. That isn’t enough to make Williams a draftable option in most leagues, but Dallas’ current point guard depth chart enhances D’Angelo Russell’s early-season value.

Despite signing D’Angelo Russell, the Mavericks clearly needed more ball-handlers. Kyrie Irving (ACL) is set to miss a significant portion of the 2025-26 season, and Spencer Dinwiddie has signed with the Hornets. For this reason, according to Charania’s report, they’ll hold onto Exum for another season. Injuries limited him to 20 games last season, with the former lottery pick averaging 8.7 points, 2.8 assists and 1.7 three-pointers in 18.6 minutes. Since returning to the NBA during the 2023-24 season, Exum has improved significantly as a shooter. The ability to handle the ball and defend multiple positions will help Dallas account for Irving’s absence, but Exum is unlikely to impact fantasy basketball dramatically.

Exum sustained the injury in the first half of Friday’s game against the Rockets. The Mavericks confirmed Saturday that the 29-year-old shooting guard suffered a left hand fracture and will be re-evaluated in four weeks. Spencer Dinwiddie and Brandon Williams figure to get more playing time in Exum’s absence.

Exum injured his hand during the first half of Friday’s game against the Rockets. Unfortunately, that could be his last action of the season, with Charania reporting that Exum suffered a broken bone in his left hand. His absence means more playing time for Spencer Dinwiddie and Brandon Williams. In Williams’ case, he only has a few games remaining on his two-way contract. The Mavericks must give him an extended deal to ensure he’s available for all their remaining games.

Exum injured his left hand during the first half of Friday’s game, playing seven minutes before having to exit. With the Mavericks already shorthanded, Spencer Dinwiddie and Brandon Williams will have added importance in fantasy basketball leagues if Exum has to miss time.

Exum and Williams are available after initially being questionable on the injury report. Both will figure prominently in the Mavericks’ rotation, with Exum being a somewhat safer play for managers seeking defensive production.

Exum played 22 minutes as a starter on Wednesday and contributed 17 points, three rebounds, three assists and one steal. He will likely remain in that role if he plays, but if he is sidelined, Brandon Williams (hamstring) or Spencer Dinwiddie will likely replace him.

Exum started on Monday in place of Brandon Williams, who is also questionable to play on Wednesday due to a hamstring injury. Exum would likely start again if he plays and Williams doesn’t, though Spencer Dinwiddie would be next in line if both guards are ruled out.

With Brandon Williams (hamstring) sidelined for this game, Exum will make a return to the starting lineup. Spencer Dinwiddie will still play a significant role off the bench. Dinwiddie was seen as a priority addition after Kyrie Irving (knee) went down, but he has only started once since then.

It’s unclear how much either player will play, as they’ll both come off the bench against Phoenix. Their fantasy values will plummet if they remain reserves for the rest of the season.

Exum returns after sitting out Wednesday’s loss to the Bucks, but he won’t replace Christie in the starting lineup. Spencer Dinwiddie, who struggled against Milwaukee, heads to the bench instead. Due to frontcourt injuries, the Mavericks will employ a center-less lineup with Edwards at the five.

Exum is available after initially being considered questionable. His return may push Max Christie to the bench, but both players will see plenty of action. The Mavericks are down multiple rotation players due to injury.

Dallas can’t catch a break, as the injuries continue to pile up. If Exum is sidelined in this one, Max Christie and Spencer Dinwiddie should see a bump in playing time. Martin has yet to play for Dallas, so his availability shouldn’t be a concern for fantasy managers.

Exum and Hardy played in Monday’s loss to the Kings, with the former in the starting lineup. With Kyrie Irving (knee) out for the season, the Mavericks could not afford to lose Exum and Hardy. Their absences mean more playing time for Spencer Dinwiddie and Max Christie, who should move into the starting lineup. Both players are worth adding in deep leagues due to the Mavericks’ lack of healthy options.
