Marcus Smart, Dalton Knecht, Jake LaRavia, Rui Hachimura and Deandre Ayton will start Monday’s game against the Trail Blazers.

While the Lakers welcome back Ayton after a two-game absence, they will not have Luka Dončić or Austin Reaves for Monday’s game. They’re replaced in the lineup by Knecht and LaRavia, who will have some deep-league streaming value due to the Lakers’ limited rotation.

Lakers exercised the $4.2 million team option on Dalton Knecht for next season.

A no-brainer decision. Even if Knecht hasn’t been great, he’s been serviceable enough for them to not cut his rookie contract short. This will be a big season for him if he hopes to earn a larger deal in the future.

    Recap

Dalton Knecht shot 3-of-15 from the field and 1-of-4 from the foul line in Monday’s loss to the Clippers, scoring eight points with seven rebounds, two assists, one steal and one three-pointer.

Knecht had a rough night, shooting 1-of-8 from beyond the arc. Unfortunately for the second-year wing, he’s had more difficult nights than good ones this summer, which is concerning for the Lakers. Generally speaking, teams want to see their returnees excel in Las Vegas, if not dominate. Knecht has not done that, which may result in him playing more games at summer league than the Lakers would have hoped.

    Recap

Dalton Knecht amassed 15 points (6-of-16 FGs), four rebounds, two assists, one steal and three three-pointers in Thursday’s loss to the Mavericks.

After struggling in the Lakers’ first two games at the California Classic, Knecht finished well and scored 25 points in Tuesday’s finale. His first game in Las Vegas wasn’t great, but the second-year wing did provide some defensive production. Following the game, Knecht said he was dealing with some cramping but would be fine. For more experienced players, especially 24-year-olds, the hope is that it won’t take long for them to show they don’t need to play in all of their team’s summer league games. While there’s no need to panic, it would likely calm some nerves in Los Angeles if Knecht rebounded from Thursday’s performance the next time out.

Dalton Knecht finished with 25 points (9-of-18 FGs), eight rebounds and four three-pointers against the Spurs on Tuesday.

It took a few games, but the Knecht that we saw as a rookie finally showed up. He scored 11 points in the final 2:34 of this game to help the Lakers storm back after trailing by double digits with four minutes left. He wasn’t great in their last two games, so it was good to see him finally get his shot going. Hopefully this will carry over into the games in Las Vegas.

    Recap

Dalton Knecht struggled on Saturday and finished with 10 points (3-of-13 FGs), four rebounds, two assists, two steals and one block in an 89-84 loss to the Warriors on Saturday.

The expectation for NBA rotation players, especially ones that are 24 years old, is that they will dominate Summer League. That wasn’t the case for Knecht in his first game of the summer. The defensive stats were good to see, but he should be dominating as a scorer. There’s no need to panic after one game, but he needs to play better and really prove that he should be in the rotation next year.

    Recap

Dalton Knecht led the Lakers with 27 points (9-of-21 FGs), eight rebounds, two blocks and five three-pointers in a 109-81 loss to the Trail Blazers on Sunday.

With the Lakers resting their key players for the postseason, Knecht was able to move into the starting unit and play an extended role. Knecht has been able to score a lot when he plays a large role, but he hasn’t been a large part of the Lakers’ rotation over the last few weeks. This was a strong way for him to close out his first regular season, but he will play sparingly in the playoffs.

    Recap

Dalton Knecht started on Thursday and contributed 17 points (5-of-14 FGs), four rebounds, three assists, one steal and three three-pointers against the Bucks.

Knecht got the starting nod due to the absences of Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves on the second night of a back-to-back for the Lakers. He scored 15 of his 17 points in the second half, though it didn’t do much to reverse the Lakers’ fortunes on the scoreboard. Knecht is more than capable of pouring in the points when he gets the opportunity, but with LeBron James and Rui Hachimura expected to return on Saturday, along with the other players that sat out on Thursday, Knecht won’t see this many shots moving forward.

Dalton Knecht (back) is available to play against the Suns on Sunday.

Knecht was initially listed as probable but has been cleared to play. However, with Luka Doncic and Gabe Vincent both available to play, Knecht will likely return to playing a role off the bench, though he should still see plenty of minutes.

    Recap

Dalton Knecht amassed 32 points (13-of-27 FGs, 1-of-2 FTs), two rebounds, one assist and five three-pointers in 37 minutes in Friday’s loss to the Nuggets.

Injuries led to Knecht’s second start in three games, and the rookie had a big night in the Mile High City. Shooting just under 50 percent from the field, the 32 points were the second-most Knecht has scored in a game this season. While he remains rostered in 25 percent of Yahoo! leagues, Knecht is ranked outside the top 250 in eight-cat formats since the All-Star break. He isn’t a player who has to be rostered in most leagues, but Friday’s performance will keep him in some lineups until LeBron James returns from his strained groin.

    Recap

Dalton Knecht amassed 19 points (8-of-18 FGs), four rebounds, one assist and three three-pointers in 41 minutes in Monday’s loss to the Nets.

The Lakers were without three starters on Monday (LeBron James, Dorian Finney-Smith and Jaxson Hayes), with Knecht being one of the replacements. The rookie had a productive night scoring-wise, with the 19 points being the most he’s tallied in a game since March 2. The Lakers aren’t active again until Thursday in Milwaukee, the first of three games the team will play to conclude Week 19. Due to the injuries, Knecht, rostered in 15 percent of Yahoo! leagues, will be worth a look in deeper formats.

    Recap

Dalton Knecht produced a line of 19 points (7-of-10 FGs), four rebounds, two steals and five three-pointers in 25 minutes in Sunday’s win over the Clippers.

Knecht reached double figures for the second time since his failed trade to the Hornets sent him back to the Lakers. The 19 points were the most he’s scored in a game since January 28. While Knecht still hasn’t reached the point where he should be rostered in most fantasy leagues, there are opportunities to produce. The Lakers are without Rui Hachimura and Austin Reaves, so someone has to step up alongside Luka Doncic and LeBron James.
