    Bo Bichette

    Bo Bichette

    TOR • SS • #

Bo Bichette went 3-for-4 with a double and a RBI on Friday against the White Sox.

Bichette was the only Blue Jay who came to hit in this one as they were shutout until the eighth inning. He had their only extra-base hit and only run batted in with his run-scoring double in that eighth inning. It’s been a great bounce-back season for Bichette with 10 home runs, four stolen bases, and a .762 OPS.

    Injury

Alan Roden (knee) was held out of the lineup for Friday’s game against the White Sox.

Roden was scratched from Thursday’s game with knee inflammation and is considered day-to-day for now. His absence puts some additional strain on Toronto’s outfield depth with Myles Straw dealing with an ankle injury.

    Recap

Spencer Turnbull allowed five hits and four runs with two walks and two strikeouts over two-plus innings in a loss against the White Sox on Friday.

The White Sox jumped all over Turnbull here. Andrew Benintendi took him on a first-pitch fastball right down the middle in the first then they put up two more in the second. Turnbull then walked Miguel Vargas to start the third inning and was immediately pulled from the game. This was Turnbull’s first start of the season after making a few appearances out of the bullpen. He could get another turn in the rotation given the Blue Jays’ lack of starting options at the moment. If so, his next start would likely come against the Guardians in Cleveland, but that’s not guaranteed.

    Transaction

Blue Jays optioned RHP Will Robertson to Triple-A Buffalo.

Robertson had been up with the big league club for a couple of days to provide depth while Nathan Lukes (concussion) was shelved, but now he’ll return to an everyday role at the Triple-A level. The 27-year-old is 1-for-10 (.100) with an RBI and a 7/1 K/BB ratio in his limited action with the Jays this season.

    Recap

Joey Ortiz had three hits, three RBI and three runs scored Friday against the Twins.

Ortiz didn’t really stand out in a 17-7 game, but any production here has to be cherished. It’s his first three-RBI game and second three-hit and three-run scored game of the year. With five hits the last two days, he has his average over the Mendoza Line for the first time since mid-April.

Jordan Lawlar went 2-for-5 with a double and a walk for Triple-A Reno on Thursday.

The double was hit 113.3 mph, which is a new high EV for him in tracked games. It also was the high mark for all Triple-A hitters Thursday. Lawlar is batting .286/.408/.603 with four homers and five steals in 15 games since the Diamondbacks returned him to Triple-A.

    Recap

Isiah Kiner-Falefa went 2-for-5 and drove in a pair of runs on Thursday as the Pirates topped the Tigers 8-4 in 10 innings to salvage the nightcap of their doubleheader.

The Pirates scored four runs off of Brant Hurter in the top half of the 10th inning on Thursday, the final two coming on a two-out, two-run knock by Kiner-Falefa that seemingly put the game out of reach. With his two-hit attack, the 30-year-old infielder is now hitting .288/.333/.358 with one homer, 17 RBI and nine stolen bases on the season.
