Fairchild had been out since May 30 with a dislocated finger. He’ll make the occasional appearance against left-handers, probably mostly as a pinch-hitter. Even with Ronald Acuña Jr. absent, Fairchild had just 36 plate appearances in the Braves’ 50 games before he got hurt.

Alvarez will go back to making a minor league salary after just four rehab games in which he went 4-for-15 with a double. The 22-year-old infielder had been on the IL with wrist inflammation since the beginning of the season.

Holmes gave up two hits, walked two and struck out 15. The 15 strikeouts were a career-high for Holmes and came just a day after Spencer Strider struck out 13 Rockies on Saturday. Holmes’ previous career high in strikeouts is nine, and he’s now struck out nine or more in three of his last four starts. Unfortunately, the Braves’ offense didn’t support Holmes and he was saddled with a loss against the worst team in baseball this year. The 29-year-old right-hander has a 3.97 ERA and his 3.47 xFIP shows more room for improvement. Holmes is set to face the Marlins on the road next weekend.

The Giants had just scored three runs to take a 3-2 lead in the fourth inning when Pages answered back with his go-ahead 399-foot (101.6 mph EV) three-run shot off of Ryan Walker in the fifth inning to put the Dodgers ahead to stay. Pages finished the evening 1-for-3 with a strikeout, though that one hit proved to be the difference in the ballgame. He has done a nice job for the Dodgers this season, slashing .281/.320/.480 with 13 long balls and 46 RBI.

As a team, the Guardians were only able to muster four hits (all singles) and one walk against Emerson Hancock and company. Thomas was the only member of the Guardians to reach base twice — with a two-out single off of Hancock in the second and a one-out walk off of the right-hander in the fifth inning. The 29-year-old outfielder has been swinging a hot bat since returning from the injured list and makes for an intriguing addition in deeper mixed leagues where he may still be available.

It doesn’t seem like a good sign that the Tigers had fellow left-handed hitter Colt Keith hit in Meadows’ place against a right-hander, but it’s understandable, given that Meadows is just 6-for-42 since coming off the injured list. The good news is that Meadows’ exit velocity numbers are actually better than usual; he came into the day a 92.3 mph average exit velocity, a .262 xBA and a .499 xSLG. His defense will help keep him in the lineup until his luck changes on offense.
