There weren’t many rallies in this one, as the teams combined for one extra-base hit and a total of eight hard-hit balls (seven of those by the Astros). Houston had a 1-0 lead for most of the day, but the Phillies tied it in the top of the eighth before Smith’s single put the Astros back in front. It was Smith’s second hit of the day, and it gave him his first RBI in seven games. He’s batting a solid .271/.343/.402 as a 22-year-old rookie.

Brown, the MLB leader with a 1.74 ERA, had no-hit kind of stuff today, but he did give up three singles. Just one of 14 balls in play against him was hit hard, that being a 97.5-mph groundout from Alec Bohm. He finished with 16 whiffs and an excellent 38% CSW. Since Bryan King coughed up a one-run lead in the eighth, Brown was left with a no-decision for a fourth straight start. The Astros, though, have prevailed in his last six outings, a stretch in which he’s allowed a total of six runs in 36 1/3 innings. He’ll make his next start in Coors Field against the Rockies next week.

The Astros wanted to stay away from Josh Hader today, so Abreu was going to close. However, he was needed with two outs in a tie game in the eighth. After striking out Trea Turner to end the rally, he was handed a 2-1 lead in the ninth. He then struck out Kyle Schwarber, Alec Bohm and Nick Castellanos in order, with all three going down swinging. One of the game’s best setup men, Abreu has 53 strikeouts and a 1.72 ERA in 36 2/3 innings this season.

Hummel has started five of the last eight games for the Astros, including four of the last five. However, he’s also just 3-for-14 with one home run, two runs scored and one RBI in those last five games, so he remains off fantasy radars.

Lukes poked a two-run single in the third to give the Blue Jays a 2-0 lead, and that was all the offense Kevin Gausman was going to need Thursday. The 30-year-old outfielder has been much more valuable to Toronto than fantasy managers, as he’s still slashing .259/.354/.357 with that single and a walk. The world needs fourth outfielders, too.

Schlitter struck out nine while walking one and allowing just two hits. The 6'6" righty has been lights out in his four starts at Triple-A, posting a 1.69 ERA, 0.98 WHIP and 33/8 K/BB ratio in 21 1/3 innings. There’s a chance the 24-year-old could push for innings with the Yankees at some point over the summer.

Springer is on a five-game hitting streak, going 9-for-19 over that stretch, so he’s just getting a routine day off. Bo Bichette will slide to the designated hitter role with Ernie Clement at shortstop, Addison Barger at third base, and Jonatan Clase starting in left field.
