After striking out to start the game, Carroll reached in each of his final four plate appearances. He smacked a two-out double off of Chris Bassitt in the third inning but wound up stranded there. He worked a one-out walk that sparked a two-run uprising in the fifth inning and scored on an error by Addison Barger. The 24-year-old superstar finished the night 1-for-2 officially and is now hitting .254/.339/.569 with 20 homers, 44 RBI and 10 stolen bases on the season.

The positive news here for the Diamondbacks and fantasy managers alike is that X-rays came back negative for any fractures after Carroll was hit by a pitch during the eighth inning of the contest. The 24-year-old fantasy star was 1`-for-3 with his league-leading ninth triple of the season before making an early exit. He’ll likely get some time off to rest and recover, but appears to have avoided serious injury.

Gurriel got off to a slow start to the season, but since May 1st, he’s hitting .307/.367/.497 with six home runs, 15 runs scored, and 23 RBI in four games. The 31-year-old has a $13 million player option after this season, so there’s a chance he tests the free agent market in the off-season. If the Diamondbacks think that’s a risk, they may look to trade Gurriel away at the deadline this year.

Rodriguez also walked three and struck out four on the day, while registering a 27 percent whiff rate and 28 percent CSW. Only two of the hits he allowed went for extra bases, but one was a home run to Bo Bichette. Rodriguez simply struggled to find the zone, posting a 41 percent zone rate on his four-seamer. It wasn’t a terrible outing overall, and he’s probably a strong streamer next week in a two-start week against the White Sox and Marlins.

Smith also drew a walk. This comes a day after the rookie 22-year-old went 4-for-5 in the blowout win over the A’s on Tuesday, and his average has increased over 20 points from .253 to .276 in the process. It has been far from a perfect rookie campaign for Smith, but there have been more than enough good moments to suggest he’s going to be a player in this league for a long time.

The 25-year-old laced a 106.6 mph double in the third inning and then followed that up with a 100.3 mph double in the sixth inning. Barger has been a huge addition to this Blue Jays lineup, and his positional versatility allows him to play third base and the corner outfield spots, and will keep him in the lineup regularly. He’s been one of the better waiver wire adds of the year.

Acuña set the tone for this game when he ambushed the first pitch he saw from Paul Blackburn and sent it way back over the fence in straightaway center field. Since his season debut on May 23rd, no one in baseball has a higher batting average (.390), on-base percentage (.495), or slugging percentage (.720). It’s safe to say he’s back.
