    Recap

Ian Happ delivered a walk-off RBI single in the 10th inning on Sunday afternoon, propelling the Cubs to a 3-2 victory over the Pirates.

Happ helped to get the scoring started for the Cubs as he worked a leadoff walk to begin the first inning, swiped second base and scored on a ground out off the bat of Seiya Suzuki. He then played the role of hero in the 10th, smacking a David Bednar offering into right field to plate Vidal Brujan from third base with the game-winning run. The 30-year-old outfielder is now hitting .249/.340/.385 with seven long balls, 31 RBI and four stolen bases on the season.

    Recap

Chris Flexen picked up his fourth victory of the 2025 season on Sunday, working a scoreless top half of the 10th inning against the Pirates.

Flexen came on to start the 10th inning and stranded the extra runner at second base, getting Ke’Bryan Hayes on a ground ball to shortstop, Henry Davis on a line drive to right field and Isiah Kiner-Falefa on a liner to second. He then became the beneficiary as the Cubs walked it off in the home half of the frame. The 30-year-old right-hander has been a cheat code out of the Cubs’ bullpen this season, hurling 18 1/3 scoreless innings with a 0.82 WHIP and a 10/5 K/BB ratio to go with four wins and a save through his first 11 appearances.

    Recap

Colin Rea logged a quality start in a no-decision against the Pirates on Sunday afternoon, allowing two runs on four hits over six strong frames.

The 34-year-old right-hander walked one batter while striking out four on the afternoon. All of the damage done against him came in the opening inning as Spencer Horwitz smacked an RBI single and Alexander Canario plated a run with a ground out. Rea settled in nicely afterwards though and finished his day with five scoreless frames. Rea got nine whiffs on 81 pitches on the day, posting a CSW of 25 percent. He’ll carry a 3.84 ERA, 1.32 WHIP and a 52/18 K/BB ratio (68 innings) into Saturday’s matchup against the Mariners.

J.P. Crawford went 1-for-3 and blasted a grand slam on Sunday afternoon, powering the Mariners to a 6-0 victory over the visiting Guardians.

Crawford broke the game open in the second inning as he crushed a 1-2 slider from Luis Ortiz for a 377-foot (99.0 mph EV) grand slam to right field that increased the M’s advantage to 5-0. That would be his only hit on the afternoon but was more than enough to support Emerson Hancock and company. On the season, the 30-year-old shortstop is now hitting .296/.411/.413 with six homers and 29 RBI.

De La Cruz’s home run was his 16th of the year. After the Reds came back to take the lead late in the game, the 23-year-old shortstop extended the lead to 8-4 with a two-run shot off Brennan Hanifee in the top of the ninth inning. De La Cruz is on a hot streak with home runs in each of his last four games. He’s hitting .273 with an .850 OPS and 50 RBI this season.

Jackson Holliday is not in the lineup for Sunday’s game against the Angels.

It’s Holliday’s first day off since May 24. He’s been struggling a bit of late, hitting .248/.275/.421 with four homers and five steals over his last 30 games. There’s been zero indication that Baltimore is considering any alternatives for the leadoff spot. It’ll be Luis Vázquez getting his first start at the keystone.
