De La Cruz’s home run was his 16th of the year. It was a surprise to see Pagán enter with a 6-4 lead in the eight; it’s just the third time this season that he’s come in before the ninth. He was up against the bottom of the Tigers’ lineup, too, so it wasn’t a case of using the best pitcher against the heart of the order. After Pagán exited, the Reds scored twice more in the ninth, taking away the save situation. Tony Santillan came on and struck out two of the four batters he faced in the ninth. Santillan has been very good, but Pagan, who last blew a save on May 6, hasn’t had any missteps in the closer’s role, and Terry Francona isn’t typically the type to mix and match. It seems like a situation to watch.

Batting in the No. 2 spot in the order Sunday, McClain managed two hits and two runs scored in the win over the Tigers. The 25-year-old second baseman is still hitting just .191 on the season, but appears to be making some positive strides at the plate so far in June. Reclaiming a regular spot in the top third of the batting order would go a long way for his fantasy value over the rest of the season.

Miley gave up four hits, walked two and struck out five. The only runs he allowed came on two solo home runs by Jahmai Jones and Wenceel Perez. Miley’s control wasn’t great, but the Tigers offense bailed him out by only drawing two walks. The 38-year-old left-hander has a 6.75 ERA in three appearances this year and is best left on fantasy waiver wires. Miley is set to face the Cardinals on the road next weekend.

Crawford broke the game open in the second inning as he crushed a 1-2 slider from Luis Ortiz for a 377-foot (99.0 mph EV) grand slam to right field that increased the M’s advantage to 5-0. That would be his only hit on the afternoon but was more than enough to support Emerson Hancock and company. On the season, the 30-year-old shortstop is now hitting .296/.411/.413 with six homers and 29 RBI.

Swanson delivered a big two-out RBI single off of Mitch Keller in the opening inning that tied the game at two runs apiece. He also singled with two outs in the ninth but was left stranded at third. With his two-hit attack, the 31-year-old shortstop is now hitting .243/.292/.428 with 13 homers, 38 RBI and seven stolen bases on the season.

It’s Holliday’s first day off since May 24. He’s been struggling a bit of late, hitting .248/.275/.421 with four homers and five steals over his last 30 games. There’s been zero indication that Baltimore is considering any alternatives for the leadoff spot. It’ll be Luis Vázquez getting his first start at the keystone.
