It appears to be nothing more than a routine day of rest for the 35-year-old slugger, though Freeman has been playing through a minor quad injury. Max Muncy is also taking a seat with tough southpaw MacKenzie Gore on the hill for the Nationals. Enrique Hernandez will cover first base for Freeman while Miguel Rojas will start at the hot corner and bat ninth for the Dodgers.

Rojas hit his third homer of the season in the sixth inning off MacKenzie Gore to extend the Dodgers’ lead to 6-2. He also doubled — his fourth of the season — and scored another run. Rojas is now slashing .240/.276/.340, and wouldn’t be a good fantasy option even if he received more consistent playing time.

Scott gave up a solo homer to CJ Abrams in the ninth inning, but the Dodgers held a 6-4 lead at the time. The 30-year-old now has 15 saves on the season with a 3.79 ERA in his first season as the Dodgers’ closer.

Both runs allowed by Kershaw came on solo homers; one by Amed Rosario and another from Riley Adams of all players. The future Hall of Famer walked a pair of hitters and struck out four in a solid — if unspectacular — outing that saw his ERA rise ever-so-slightly to 3.31. Kershaw gets the Rockies in Colorado on Thursday.

It’s never an encouraging development. Fantasy managers should prepare for the possibility that Burger winds up requiring a trip to the injured list. He dealt with an intercostal strain strain last year with the Marlins and also missed time with an oblique strain back in 2022. There should be some clarity on his status at some point this weekend.

The Mets offense is anemic right now. Back-to-back home runs by Alonso and Jeff McNeil accounted for their only runs here despite forcing Zack Wheeler from the game after just five innings. They’ve scored just three runs over their last three games and are mired in a seven-game losing streak. That’s no fault of Alonso though, who’s near the top of the league with a .951 OPS.

The 29-year-old slugger clearly grabbed at his side a couple of times after swings during his final at-bat before being pulled from the game. Expect that he’ll head for further evaluation and the Rangers should have an update on his status shortly.
