The 29-year-old slugger clearly grabbed at his side a couple of times after swings during his final at-bat before being pulled from the game. Expect that he’ll head for further evaluation and the Rangers should have an update on his status shortly.

Rangers manager Bruce Bochy told reporters Langford is day-to-day for the moment. It doesn’t sound like a serious concern, but back issues can be extremely complicated matters and tend to linger beyond initial estimates. Fantasy managers should keep a close eye on his status over the weekend.

It’s never an encouraging development. Fantasy managers should prepare for the possibility that Burger winds up requiring a trip to the injured list. He dealt with an intercostal strain strain last year with the Marlins and also missed time with an oblique strain back in 2022. There should be some clarity on his status at some point this weekend.

DeGrom improved to 7-2 with a 2.24 ERA and an 87/18 K/BB through 15 starts, which should have the Rangers and everyone who drafted him ecstatic. It’s still kind of amazing to compare that line to what he was a few years back, though. In 2021, he also went 7-2 over 15 starts for the Mets, but he had a 1.08 ERA and an insane 146/11 K/BB in 92 innings that season. He’s due to take on the Orioles next, though the Rangers could push him back to the Seattle series next weekend if they don’t want him pitching on four days’ rest.

The Mets offense is anemic right now. Back-to-back home runs by Alonso and Jeff McNeil accounted for their only runs here despite forcing Zack Wheeler from the game after just five innings. They’ve scored just three runs over their last three games and are mired in a seven-game losing streak. That’s no fault of Alonso though, who’s near the top of the league with a .951 OPS.

It appears to be nothing more than a routine day of rest for the 35-year-old slugger, though Freeman has been playing through a minor quad injury. Max Muncy is also taking a seat with tough southpaw MacKenzie Gore on the hill for the Nationals. Enrique Hernandez will cover first base for Freeman while Miguel Rojas will start at the hot corner and bat ninth for the Dodgers.

Both of the veteran sluggers played in both halves of Thursday’s doubleheader against the White Sox, so it makes sense that manager Oli Marmol would want to give them a breather. Alec Burleson will cover first base while Nolan Gorman will start at the hot corner and will bat cleanup for the Cardinals on Friday evening against the Reds.
